Chapter Four
Andrew, as a little boy, was a sweet child anyone could ask for. His chubby cheeks made him bubbly all the time.
As he grew older, he grew into a fine young teenager. Cute-faced and very intelligent. All the boys flocked around him, including his peers and older boys, because of his intelligence. too. Those probably wanted a relationship, kind of friendship from him.
He was his father's pride not only because he was the only son but also because of his capabilities, even at a young age. He was a perfect son and heir to the Matei’s empire. He had a very strong and beautiful bond with his father, which made his mother jealous most of the time.
Everything was going so well for both father and son until Mr. Marius refused to accept the girl Andrew wished to marry. According to him, she was below par for him.
This led to a big friction in their relationship, and so Andrew vowed to be the opposite of what he was.
He began to keep late nights, started drinking, and became flirty with the girls. Perhaps this was what earned him the title “ womaniser"
What most people failed to learn was that he never laid any of the girls he flirted with.
People around him thought he became arrogant because of his position, but that was a lie
Of course, this sudden change of behavior didn't sit well with his father, but he didn't make any attempt to change his stand on whom he would marry.
"I already have plans on how and what his marriage would look like. It can't be terminated because of some low-life girl he fell for. Don't worry, he will soon adjust to it. " Mr. Marius voiced out to his wife in a discussion.
" We are tampering with his private life. It's just as if we are dictating what his life should look like," she complained with a look of discomfort, but Mr. Marius didn't buy her idea.
Mr. Marius, on the other hand, is a strict disciplinarian, and so he did all he could to force his son out of his new lifestyle. He went as far as banning his credit cards and forbade him from using the cars, but Andrew was smarter than that.
To an extent, he assigned him some bodyguards to follow him around wherever he went, but that technique didn't seem to work out. He always sneaked out on them.
When the news about marrying some girl for the merger came flying to him, he took it in good faith, which made his father suspicious of him, but he was glad he didn't have to move mountains to accomplish that.
Andrew planned to accept the marriage and reject his supposed bride on the day of their wedding.
This was the plan he had with his girlfriend. The one his father refused to give his consent.
“Babe, are you sure it will work out?” she asked him as they lay on the floor in her apartment.
“Yes, babe, it will. I'm sure Dad won't have any other options than to accept you. Accept us,” he replied with a trace of doubt in his voice. And so he quickly added
“ And if he still doesn't, we will elope. We will go somewhere far away where no one will dictate our lives. It will be just you and me against the world”.
“Okay, babe”
On the day of the wedding, the day he was supposed to elope with his girlfriend, he had called her to confirm their arrangement, but she wasn't reachable. Before that day, he noticed she was acting distant and nonchalant about their plans, but he shook it off.
After rejecting me, he drove his car with most of his belongings inside to pick up his girlfriend. He was astonished to see what his eyes beheld.
She was in bed with another man. Not just any man, his arch-enemy.
The man she lay with has always been nothing but trouble for Andrew. He set him up back then in high school. He snatched his previous girlfriend from him and now her.
"So tell me, what about your supposed boyfriend? You had plans of eloping together, right?" The guy asked with the consent that he was intruding on their privacy.
"You mean Andrew? His father rejected me, and I can't settle for that. I was just leading him on when I told him that I would elope with him. The embarrassment is too much on his side, and I can't take it anymore, " she replied.
Ortega, the guy she was cheating with, was about to ask further questions when she stopped him with her kisses. She was obviously not comfortable discussing Andrew with him.
Her actions show that she still has feelings for Andrew, but due to the situation at hand, she can't express it.
The moment Andrew stepped into the room, he was short of words, and all he could mutter was
“How long has it been going on?”
They were occupied with romancing each other and entangled with each other that they didn't hear when he entered.
She tried to answer, but he cut her off
“You know what? I don’t want to know. Geez, I feel so stupid. To think I let my dad down for us. For you. And this is how you chose to pay me back?” He paused and breathed hard before continuing.
“I’ve been nothing but good to you. Why him?
Of all people. You know my history with him, and you still chose to stab me this way. I just messed up someone’s life just now because of you.
Why?
Tell me why?”
He kept on saying why as he left her apartment.
He was shattered. He felt guilty for humiliating me the way he did, but he was regretful about his father.
He drove himself around the city till he could no longer bear the pain. He eventually parked at the seashore and called his father.
“Hello, Dad”.
