Chapter Three
Mr Marius was still angry at the fact that Andrew went out without seeing him, as he had instructed him.
He lashed his anger at everyone he set his eyes upon, including his dearest wife. It was on days like this that he reminded her of how she spoiled Andrew as a little child.
It is also on days like this that he idolizes his daughter, Andrew's little sister. He has never admitted it, but he wished she were a boy, probably because of how she obeys every one of his orders.
Andrew came back home after his walk with me. But before then, he had a business he needed to attend to.
When he got home, he could tell his father was not happy, and that made him smile.
He walked into his father's study room, beaming with a smile, knowing fully well it was going to piss his old man the most, but that was his intention.
“Hey Dad,” he called out
His father, being on a phone call, gave him a dead look and gestured to him to sit down. Andrew, with more intent on annoying his father, took the apple on the table and munched on it regardless of his offense. He also used his hands to hit the desk, thereby creating a rhythmic sound.
He does all this while staring at his father.
After the phone call had ended, Mr. Marius stood up, paced the room, and sat back down in his seat.
“Where are you coming from, young man?” he asked Andrew, who was shocked by his father's unusual calmness
“From Ana's place”
Did you inform me before leaving?” his father inquired.
“No, sir”
“And why is that”
“Nothing, sir”
“Andrew?”
“Yes, sir”
“Andrew?” He called his name again, but this time with some fatherly emotion and not like a disciplinarian.
“Yes Dad”
“Be careful! Now get out”
“Sure, Dad,” he responded as he smiled out of his father's study room.
The atmosphere in the house of the Mateis was truly that of one where a glam wedding is about to take place. The mood has already been set. Preparations seem to be going on well, and every member of the household is excited except for the groom - Andrew.
Andrew was not ready to settle down. And even if he does, not with someone as naive as I am.
He is not ready to drop his flirtatious acts. He can't afford to be with just one woman, as the second or third in line, after his beloved father.
What will happen to all the beautiful female wolves? he thought to himself.
I can't let all those beasts in the form of men manhandle them.
All this was going through his head until he remembered the walk he had earlier with me.
But she's a beautiful wolf. He murmured to himself.
So peaceful and funny too.
But I can't be the one for her. I'm no good.
I'm certain that if it weren't for the merger between both families, she wouldn't even have anything to do with me.
He tried to get me out of his head but was unable to. He stepped into the kitchen to meet his mother but changed his mind the moment he saw his father. He knew best to stay out of sight.
He was still shocked his father didn't react to the stunts he pulled earlier today. That must be the moon goddess clearing his path.
"How are things moving over there?" Mr. Marius asked one of the workers.
"Very well, sir."
He was intentional about this marriage. Aside from the two couples being mates, he needed the alliance of the family, the father in particular.
"You may call me Andrew when we are alone." That was Andrew and I discussing behind the castle’s walls.
It was in terms that the bride shouldn't see the groom before the wedding, but Andrew went ahead and did otherwise.
The castle was grand, and the decorations looked more luxurious than those of the engagement.
"Andrew," someone called from behind.
I turned my face to see who it was.
Two men in royal robes came forward to where we were standing.
"We came to say congratulations to you and your bride," they said.
"Oh, is that so?" He said with no emotion.
" Of course, we are brothers, aren't we?"
" Cousins, we are cousins," he corrected
They smirked and proceeded to the next question.
" Why don't you and your bride join us for dinner tonight? We would love to take a closer look at your bride," he said and then shot me a glance.
He's cute; I couldn't resist but smiled back.
"Look at her all you want now; this might be your last chance." he walked away after his last statement.
Are they family? This question keeps popping into my mind because the relationship they shared looks more like one of enemies.
Andrew’s brothers blocked his way as he tried walking away. He drew closer to them as if he was trying to intimidate them, and it worked. They drew out their weapons as if they were ready to attack at any instant.
Andrew's guards weren't left out. They were ready for any attack with their weapons in their hands.
" What's going on here?!" Mr. Marius intervened immediately when he saw what was about to happen.
"You can as well inform me of the people you invite to my wedding rather than asking baseless questions," he shouted to everyone's hearing.
"That's rude. You don't address the king, your father, in that manner," I said without even knowing it. I felt scared and relieved at the same time.
I was waiting to take my plate of insults from him, but everything went silent all of a sudden.
Just then, I felt someone dragging my hands from behind. It was Andrew. How did he get there? Does he appear and disappear? Questions kept coming in.
"This wedding is off."Unplanned tears rolled out of my eyes immediately.
Was he referring to me? Well, I was the only bride, so that's such a silly question to ask.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked him from where I stood with my face covered with my hands in shame.
"What have I done to deserve this embarrassment?" I paused and took in some air, hot tears rolling down my cheeks.
My fear about being a rejected mate was finally happening; I couldn't believe it to be true.
Andrew leaned closer to me and whispered
" Because I'm the devil."
