The Generasi Terakhir
The tradition of elongating ears for Dayak women in East Kalimantan is a symbol of beauty. The longer the ears of a Dayak woman, the more beautiful she is.
Unfortunately, this long ear tradition is slowly disappearing. .the majority of Dayak women are now starting to leave long ears over the times.
Now millennial generation Dayak women no longer use this tradition..
met two Dayak Bahau women from Long Isun Village, Long Pahangai District, Mahakam Ulu Regency, East Kalimantan, who still maintain this tradition last week.
The two are Tipung Ping (69) and Kristina Yeq Lawing (71).
As a generation in the 1950, these two grandmothers still adhere to the long ear tradition as a symbol of beauty.
"My mom made a hole when I was three years old..more and more after increasing, the earrings are reproduced in the ears," said Kristina Yeq Lawing when me.
Kristina admitted that her mother had punched holes in her ears with wood.
After the lobe is stabbed, it is tied with a black cloth. After recovering, then given earrings. First one, then two, three and so on.
.Over time, the earrings that were installed continued to increase until Kristina was 71 years old. The total number of earrings made of white metal has been used for more than a dozen pieces.
