Episode 1
chapter1 it was a beautiful morning, l walked to the window staring at the beautiful flowers in the garden and suddenly I heard a knock from the door I quickly closed the curtains on the air conditioner and the lights, I heard the knock again but this time it was more loud and aggressive, I didn't know who it was, but when I finally opened it I found out that it was my little sister Benita, she said to me "amaka come and carry your food".A mix of emotions swirled inside me as I stared at Benita, unsure whether to be happy or annoyed, but I was taken aback by Benita's sudden appearance, but my stomach growled at the mention of food, with no seconds wasted Benita quickly ran down stairs, I closed the door, wore my slippers and quickly followed her down stairs. when we got to the dining room, it became a moment of silence, my eyes widened as I took in the unfamiliar faces, a mix of curiosity and wariness swirling inside me. The air was thick with tension as I surveyed the strangers, their polite smile and nods only added to my unease. I went to the kitchen to ask my mom who they were, to my greatest surprise she said that they were suitors asking for my hand in marriage. I tried to process the idea of marriage, but it seemed like a distant, unreal concept,I glanced back at the dining room wondering which of the strangers was vying for my hand. I went back to the dining room with my parents at I didn't know what to say because I was lost in thoughts, I forced a smile onto my face, trying to hide my inner chaos as i greeted the men again. I fumbled with my napkin trying to appear nonchalant while my heart raced with anxiety. one of the visitors asked me a question but I barely heard it ,my heart still reeling from my parent's bombshell one of the man there started admiring me calling me all sorts of lovely names, i shifted uncomfortably in my seat trying to avoid emeka's intense gaze as he continued to shower me with compliments I forced a polite smile trying to hide my growing unease as emeka reached out to touch my hand, despite my reservations, I found myself wondering what emeka's story was, what drove him to be so forward and confident even in front of my parents. I couldn't take it anymore i quickly shouted I don't want this marriage, I ran upstairs to my room and locked the door. I learned against the door trying to catch my breath and calm my racing heart as I replay the scene down stairs, I felt a sense of liberation wash over me knowing i had finally spoken my truth but it was quickly followed by a dread of the repercussions. As I sat in my room, trying to process my emotions, I heard a gentle knock on the door. It was her sister, Benita. "Amaka, can I come in?" Benita asked softly. i nodded, and Benita entered the room. "What's going on, sis? You look like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders." i sighed, feeling a mix of emotions. "I just can't take it anymore, Benita. The suitors, the pressure from Mom and Dad... I feel like I'm losing myself in all of this." Benita nodded understandingly. "I get it. But what do you want to do? You can't just run away from it all." i looked at her sister, a spark of determination igniting within her. "Actually, that's exactly what I'm going to do. I decided to go to my friend (amanda) to escape the pressure. As I walked into Amanda's cozy living room, I felt a temporary reprieve from the suffocating expectations at home. But my relief was short-lived. Amanda's usually radiant face looked pale, and her eyes seemed sunken. She forced a weak smile, and I sensed something was off. "Hey, girl! What's going on?" I asked, plopping down beside her on the couch. Amanda hesitated, fidgeting with her hands. "I...I have something to tell you." My mind raced with worst-case scenarios. "What is it? You're scaring me!" Amanda took a deep breath. "I'm pregnant." I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. "What? Oh my...Amanda!" My friend's eyes welled up with tears. "I know, I know. It's a mess. I'm not even showing yet, but I can feel my life spiraling out of control." I wrapped my arms around her, trying to process this bombshell. "We'll figure this out together, okay? You're not alone." But as I held her, I couldn't shake off the feeling that our lives were about to change in ways we never imagined... i couldn't help but wonder about the father. "Amanda, who...?" I trailed off, not wanting to pry. Amanda pulled back, a mix of emotions on her face. "It's...complicated. His name is Alex. We met at a party, and...it was a mistake. He's not in the picture, and I don't want him to be." I nodded, trying to understand. "Okay, we'll deal with that later. What about your parents? Have you told them?" Amanda shook her head, fear creeping into her eyes. "No, not yet. I'm scared, Amaka. I don't know how they'll react." I took her hand, determination rising within me. "We'll face this together. We'll figure out a plan, and I'll be here for you every step of the way." Just then, a knock on the door broke the tension. Amanda's eyes widened. "That must be my mom. She's been suspecting something's up. I took a deep breath and headed to the door, trying to appear calm. I opened it to find Amanda's mom, Mrs. Johnson, looking concerned. "Hey, Mrs. Johnson! Come on in," I said, trying to sound cheerful. She walked in, her eyes scanning the room until they landed on Amanda. "Amanda, sweetie, we need to talk." Amanda stood up, looking nervous. "Mom, I—" Mrs. Johnson's gaze turned stern. "I know something's going on, Amanda. You've been acting strange for weeks. Is everything okay?" I jumped in, trying to deflect. "Mrs. Johnson, Amanda's just been stressed with school and stuff. I'm sure it's nothing—" But Amanda cut me off, her voice shaking. "Mom, I need to tell you something." Mrs. Johnson's expression softened. "Okay, baby. What is it?" Amanda took a deep breath. "I'm pregnant." The room fell silent. Mrs. Johnson looked like she'd been punched in the gut. I stepped in, trying to mediate. "Mrs. Johnson, let's sit down and talk about this. Amanda, why don't you explain what's going on?" Amanda took another deep breath. "Mom, I know this isn't what you wanted for me, but I'm going to be a mom. And I'm scared, but I'm trying to figure things out." Mrs. Johnson's expression changed from shock to concern. "Oh, Amanda, baby, I just want what's best for you. But a baby? That's a big responsibility." I added, "We'll figure it out together, Mrs. Johnson. We'll support Amanda through this." Mrs. Johnson looked at me, then back at Amanda. "Okay, let's talk about this. But first, who's the father?" Amanda hesitated, and I could sense her fear. "Mom, it's...complicated. I don't want to talk about it right now." Mrs. Johnson nodded slowly. "Okay, we'll deal with that later. For now, let's focus on you and the baby." The tension in the room began to ease, replaced by a sense of determination. We were in this together now. Mrs. Johnson's expression turned firm. "Amanda, I understand you don't want to talk about it now, but we need to discuss the father's role in this. Who is he, and what does he know about the pregnancy?" Amanda hesitated, looking uncomfortable. "Mom, please...I'll tell you eventually, but not now." I intervened, trying to ease the tension. "Mrs. Johnson, maybe we can focus on Amanda's well-being and the baby's health for now. We can discuss the father's involvement later." But Mrs. Johnson's concern was palpable. "I just want to know if he's going to be a part of this child's life. Amanda deserves to know if she has support." Amanda's eyes welled up with tears. "Mom, stop. Please. You're making this harder." Suddenly, the doorbell rang, breaking the tense moment. I got up to answer it, hoping to diffuse the situation. To my surprise, it was Alex, the father, standing at the door with a mix of fear and determination on his face. As alex stepped into the room, Amanda's eyes flashed with a mix of anger and hurt. "You're here now?" she spat, her voice trembling. "After abandoning me when I needed you most?" Alex's face contorted in anguish. "Amanda, please...I know I messed up. I was scared, but that's no excuse. I love you, and I want to be here for you and our child." Mrs. Johnson's expression turned fierce. "You love her? You have a strange way of showing it, young man. You disappeared when she needed you most." Alex took a step forward, his eyes pleading. "I know I don't deserve forgiveness, but I'm begging for a chance to make it right. I want to be a father to this child, to support Amanda and help raise our baby." Amanda's eyes welled up with tears. "You want to be a father? Now? After I've had to deal with all of this alone?" The room vibrated with tension as Amanda's emotions boiled over. "You have no idea what I've been through, Alex. The fear, the uncertainty...the loneliness." Alex's face crumpled, and he fell to his knees. "Amanda, please...forgive me. I'll do anything to regain your trust as I watched alex beg for forgiveness, something inside me shifted. I saw the sincerity in his eyes, the desperation to make things right. And in that moment, I felt my heart soften. "Amanda, please..." Alex whispered, his voice cracking. I took a step forward, my voice barely above a whisper. "Alex, I...I forgive you." Alex's face lit up with hope, and he rose to his feet. "Really?" I nodded, feeling a sense of peace wash over me. "Yes. But we have a lot to work through." Alex's eyes locked onto mine, and I saw the love and adoration there. "I'll do whatever it takes, Amanda. I promise." As we hugged, I felt a spark of electricity run through my body. I realized, in that moment, that I still loved Alex. And maybe, just maybe, we could rebuild our relationship and create a future together. But as we pulled back, I saw Mrs. Johnson's disapproving gaze. "Amanda, are you sure about this?" she asked, her voice laced with concern. amanda's heart still ached from Alex's betrayal, but she wanted to forgive him and rebuild their relationship for their baby's sake. She agreed to couples therapy with Alex, and they began working through their issues. As they attended sessions, Amanda saw the genuine effort Alex put into changing and becoming a better partner. She started to heal and trust him again. One day, Alex surprised her with a heartfelt letter and a small gift – a locket with their baby's ultrasound picture. Amanda's heart melted, and she knew she was falling in love with him again. But just as things were improving, Alex's family threw another curveball...
