The following week sped by at work but by its end everything was as ready as it could be for the two symposiums; any temp that Robyn got in to cover my absence would have a really easy time.
‘Annalee, you’ve earned your leave!’ Robyn gave me a brief, friendly hug of gratitude, ‘Thank you so much for all your efforts. Enjoy the break.’
I’d been careful not to tell Robyn where I was going; I wanted no chance of a connection being made between myself and Scotland and therefore, by inference, Lily.
Driving home I could feel my anticipation mounting, I really was looking forward to the trip, the chance to see some of Scotland. I’d had so few holidays over the years it felt like a real adventure.
