My mind was filled with infinite possibilities about how Ethan and I could be together. I kept rethinking of our kiss and the explosion of fireworks that had overcome me. It just felt right. I thought as I laid on my bed. My heart ached, longing for him.
Why did he choose her instead? Didn’t he want me? Wasn’t I his mate?
A thousand questions and thoughts rolled into my brain as I tried to make sense of this strange situation. I must had tried to figure out it for an hour before concluding that I wanted Ethan to myself, but it was forbidden as he already made his decision. He chose her. I tried to convince myself to move on with those words.
I stole a quick glance at the clock, it was 2am. This alpha had occupied my mind for the three hours since he left. I silently thanked that tomorrow was Saturday and I could sleep in. If he chose her, then why come to me? Was the last thought before I dozed off.
===============================
A burst of sound shot through the air. The loud ringing of my phone caused me to wake up from my short sleep. I groaned before reaching aimlessly around my desk, trying to locate the source. My hand came into contact with the cool object, I immediately picked it up to stop the ruckus.
“Hello, Claire speaking,” I groggily greeted.
“Hey Claire, remember me?” The voice on the other side announced, causing me to instantly sit up.
“Stalking me now?’’ I confronted through the phone. “How did you even find this number?”
“I have my ways,” the voice answered in a flirty tone.
“What do you want anyway? Since you weren’t through all the trouble of tracking this number down?” I interrogated.
“I’m just here to say that the offer still stands,” he explained. “I never received an answer.”
I could visually picture his smirk through the phone. He made a good point, I recalled never giving him a direct answer after the physical scene in the car.
“Consider it,” he spoke, interrupting me from my thoughts. “Call me back on this number within the hour.”
The line went silent, a steady beeping replacing the voice. I was fully awake now and fell back on the bed. What did I have to lose? This guy was pretty desperate if he called me after what happened. Why not? My week has already been pretty bad. Why not make it better with a grand ball?
All these thoughts flashed through my head before I came to a final conclusion. I immediately hit the redial button on my phone, nervously tapping my foot. Three rings passed and I began to regret my decision but before I could end the unanswered call, the ringing stopped.
”I’m surprised you took my offer,” the voice on the other side answered.
“Why not? Could lift up my bad week?” I responded.
He chuckled. “Well, guess I’ll pick up at 5pm on the dot.”
“How do you know where live, it’s slightly creepy,” I questioned warily. “And why do we need to be so early? I thought balls started usually later?”
“Darling, I’ve got my ways. As why so early? A host can never be late.” He answered before ending the call.
His ways? Host? What have I gotten myself into?
