chapter 1
On my birthday I received a very special birthday present, I was pregnant.
Accompanied by the bad news, stomach cancer, my life was on the countdown.
After leaving the hospital, I went straight to Alexander's company.
Alexander once said he wanted a child.
I am not destined to give the baby a mother's love, but a father's love must be there.
When I arrived at the company, the secretary stopped me uncharacteristically, her eyes flickering and her speech stuttering.
"Ma'am, Mr.Bennet is in a meeting, it might be a bit inconvenient."
I gave her a quick glance and kept walking right past her.
"It's all right, I'll wait for him outside the office."
Arriving at Alexander's office, I stood outside and heard Victoria Thompson's voice sulking with him.
Pushing open the door, Alexander held Victoria in his arms with a warm. They were whispering intimately with their heads down.
Looking at the scene inside the house, I just felt my stomach ache again and wanted to throw up something.
"Ah! Why is she here? I don't want to see her! Tell her to get out!"
A scream pierced my eardrums, Victoria had another seizure.
After calming Victoria, Alexander pulled me into the conference room with a grim face.
"What are you doing here?"
I ignored his cold face and took out the ultrasound sheet and handed it to him.
"I'm pregnant."
He took the ultrasound sheet and looked at it, then suddenly sneered and threw the sheet back in front of me.
"Elizabeth Bennett, I'm a psychiatrist, you can't fool me with these clumsy tricks."
He turned to leave after speaking, but on his way out the door he turned back to me, his words unforgiving.
"Don't come back, Vicky will get angry if she sees you."
I shouted at him, closing my eyes.
"Alexander, I'm tired, since you don't believe me, let's get a divorce."
If my child can't get paternal love from him, then we don't need him.
He laughed back in anger, "Are you trying to get away with this? I'm telling you! Divorce is out of the question, and even if we were to divorce, I'd be the one to say so!"
The door to the conference room was slammed shut and Alexander left.
The room was quiet. I picked up the ultrasound sheet and held it to my chest, crying.
He wasn't like this before Victoria came back. He was nice to me then.
When did it start?
His attitude changed after Victoria went mad when she saw me.
I sat in the room until I felt better, then I went to the bathroom.
I splashed water on my face to wash away my tears.
"You look ugly. You've seen it. He doesn't care about you. You still want to hold on to him?"
Victoria appeared behind me, mocking me with her eyes.
I pulled out a piece of paper and slowly dried my face, straightening my back and staring back at her from the mirror.
"You heard him, right? It's not me who's holding on; he's the one who doesn't want the divorce."
I pursed my lips and said, "Why are you pretending to be depressed and keeping him around? What are you now? Just a mistress."
"Who are you calling a mistress?"
Her face turned red with anger and she was about to grab my hair when someone came out of the bathroom. She turned her eyes back to a pitiful look, covered her face and cried as she ran out.
