The Unexpected Luna

CHAPTER TWO

As I get back home I realise that both my parents are not there. This was nothing unusual. It would mean that they are either on a mission for the pack, or more likely to be providing protection while the Alpha was out. I look around to see if Mum has left a note when I feel my phone buzz in my pocket.

Mum: ‘Me and your Dad are escorting Luke for a pack conference in the States this weekend. I did let you know but wasn’t sure if you’d remember with your training getting tougher this week. We’ll back on Wednesday. Stay safe sweetheart, love you loads xxx’

Me: ‘Okay, no worries. Speak to you soon. Love you both xxx’

I had forgotten that they were gone. I did have a close bond with my parents but it was nice to have the house to myself for a few days, even if the majority of those days I was going to be training.

I checked the time - 18:06. S**t! I’m meant to be meeting Bella and Lilly at half past and I still need to shower and get ready. I dump my gym bag in my room and get in the shower.

As I’m enjoying the relaxing hot water cleanse my skin, I think about looking forward to my night out and my day off tomorrow. It was nice to be able to just fit in with everyone else sometimes.

I don’t know why you want us to be like any other pack member. We’re special, why are you not happy about it? Aria pipes up. Even though I snubbed her earlier, she struggles to stay quiet for long.

We’ve had this conversation before Ari, I am happy that I’m not like any other omega but I hate that there’s so much pressure for me to be an amazing fighter. What about a mate? Has the Moon Goddess sacrificed our chance for a mate so we can have powers? Cause I hardly think that’s fair!

Our Mother has her ways. I do not know if we are not meant to have a mate. I’m sure we will come to realise this in time. But we do know that we are powerful and gifted. I just can’t understand why you won’t let me out more.

I let you take control plenty Aria but I want to know if we have a mate! My friends haven’t found there’s yet but at least they know they have one out there! Surely you feel the bond pulling at you making you yearn? And don’t try and lie and tell me you don’t because we are the same mind and soul.

Aria doesn’t reply. In fact, she snubs me and huffs off. I just roll my eyes because I know that she does want a mate. What wolf doesn’t? We’re designed by the Moon Goddess to want an unbreakable bond with someone. But I suppose me and Ari aren’t like any other wolf; I just hope the Moon Goddess hasn’t been cruel to me like that.

I’m broken out of my thoughts by hearing the front door close.

“Skye! Are you ready? We’ve got an Uber booked at 7!” I hear Bella call up the stairs.

I quickly turn off the shower and go through to my room and put on my black jeans and flannel. As I’ve got dressed, Lily appears in my bedroom doorway, “C’mon babe, I know you were at training but we gotta get going! With any luck me and Bella will found our mates tonight, or at the very least get laid” she giggles.

“Yeah okay, I’m just putting some makeup on and I’ll be ready.” But then I hear bottles being shuffled in the cupboard in the kitchen. “Are you and Bells predrinking and haven’t got me one too?” I smile as I ask. Lily just smiles at me as she runs downstairs but promptly returns with my favourite, rum and coke. Beta Oliver would be p****d if he knew I was predrinking but what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.

A substantial amount of time later and I’ve found myself in a bar. Not a human bar though, this place was owned and run by a werewolf so it was only for our kind. It meant that we could truly be ourselves without risk of exposing our kind.

It also meant that we would have a good chance of meeting a mate here. Bella and Lily had disappeared into the crowd when we got in here at about 11. I decided to set up camp at the bar and nurse a few more rum and cokes. Although I lied to the Beta about not drinking too much, I wasn’t going to get drunk. I did not want to have to do extra training on Sunday.

I check my phone for the time- 01:34. Ari still hasn’t spoken to me since our conversation earlier but I wasn’t too fussed about this. She’s my wolf counterpart and I do love her but she can be irritating sometimes. I know she feels the same about me. As I take another sip of my drink, I hear a familiar voice call my name,

“Hey Skye, how did the Beta let you out tonight?” I look up to see Matt, another friend of mine from my pack and a fellow fighter.

“Well you know, pulled the ‘the Alpha loves me’ card and I promised I wouldn’t drink too much” I pressed my finger to my lips as I picked up my glass. Matt just laughed.

“Your secret is safe with me, plus you’d kick my a*s in training if I squealed on ya” he said as pulled me into a one arm hug. Matt was a tall guy. Even sat at the bar, he dwarfed me. But he was the Alpha’s nephew so he was bigger and bulkier than most guys around our age.

He had a gorgeous wolf as well named Diezel. He was a jet black with bright green eyes and I think Aria had a crush on him. To be fair I used to have a major crush on Matt, even hoping he was my mate. He was about 6”2, muscled and toned, tattoos covering his arms and chest and those same amazing green eyes as Diezel.

We have slept together a few times but we both know we’re not each other’s mate.

“Oh, hi Matt” Bella says with a grin as she comes up to us.

“You alright Bells? You want a drink?” He asks with that look in his eye. Well I was s**t out of luck with him tonight. He’s the biggest player in our pack and obviously knows who he’s going home with. And seeing as Bella once again didn’t find her mate, she’s not going to say no.

I decide to leave them to it. I look around for Lily but see she is making out with a guy from the Lester Pack, also a known player but fit as f**k. My friends know how to take care of themselves, so I decided to head home.

As I’ve settled my drinks tabs and grabbed my coat, mine and Arias’ senses have caught something. I feel alone all of a sudden, like something has frozen me in that very moment.

Then, the most amazing smell hit me and hard. It was a mixture of sandalwood and something else but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I looked around to see who it was coming from as Aria started howling in my head.

MATE.

What? Did she just say what I think she did?

MATE.

Yeah, yeah she did.
