The Unexpected Luna

CHAPTER THREE

It all happened in a split second. Ari is going nuts in my head, howling and jumping about. I rarely ever see her this excited or happy about something. In fact, I’ve never seen her like this.

I start looking around for the person that has this amazing scent but as quick as it hit me, it was gone and I found myself standing at the bar again still holding my coat as if to put it on. I’m not quite sure how long I was just stood there.

“Everything okay? You’ve been standing like that like a weirdo for a good couple of minutes” Bella calls over to me, but then she sees the look on my face and her question turns to genuine concern “What’s the matter Skye? Is everything okay?”

“Yeah. It is. I think.” I say, struggling to comprehend what the f**k is going on. Bella is with me at this point and has dragged me outside to the smoking shelter.

“What’s going on? Is there danger here? Has something happened at home? With your parents? What?!” Bella has this habit of going super serious when she needs to be. Some people don’t like it but I do, it grounds me when I need it. I just look start looking around, maybe my mate came out here, they must have.

“Skye! What’s the matter?!” Bella shouts as she grabs my shoulders. Seeing as one of my rare abilities is a massively heightened sense of danger, I can see she is starting to crap herself right now. I just look at her, and say,

“Mate,,,,Aria,,,she’s saying our mate is,,I mean, was,,,here”

Bella just looks at me, confused as I am. Her eyes fog over and I know she’s asking Lily to join us. In what seems like a second, Lily is standing next to me, both of them giving me a concerning look.

“Your,,,your mate? But we thought,,well,,you thought that you didn’t have mate? And what do you mean ‘was’ here?” Bella asks.

“Well, I saw that both you two had your dates for the evening and decided to head home and get some rest. When I smelled,” I paused while looking at both of them “Aria howled mate and pretty f***ing loudly. But when I stopped to look, the smell had gone and I couldn’t see anyone in particular”

The girls looked at each other and then back at me. They pulled me into one of their group hugs. I’m not one for affection, but these two are some of the exceptions to that rule.

“Go and see if you can find them. They can’t be far” said Lily. I nodded and both of the girls headed back inside.

I wanted to let Aria take over and try to track our mate but I couldn’t as exposing ourselves as werewolves was strictly not allowed by the Wolf Councils. So I started walking towards the exit hoping to catch that beautiful scent again.

I could hear Ari whimpering in my head, she was begging to come out but she knew I couldn’t let her. Once we are back in our territory I can let her out but right now, not a chance.

I start wondering down the street but I have no idea where my mate went. Am I just gonna have to hope to find them by chance again? I don’t know if or how that would even happen.

I can track the scent if you let me out! Aria cried

Ari you know I can’t, it’s hardly going to be a valid reason to the Council when they found out we shifted in public.

But we can’t not find out mate!

Ari! I can’t shift, it’s too dangerous! But before I knew it, Aria took over and I could feel my body changing. That little b***h. She was taking charge. She was going to get us banished because of our mate! I tried to take control but she stopped me. The next thing I knew, I was looking down at paws.

Well f**k.

Aria wasn’t the biggest of wolves, but being light grey all over with turquoise eyes, you couldn’t miss her. And if any wolf saw her right now, they knew it would be us.

Aria, what have you done?! We have to shift back or get back home, NOW!

Calm down Skye! I will track the scent for a bit and once I’m certain I know where our mate is, we’ll shift back, I promise!

What if we get seen? Do you want us to be banished?!

No answer. Instead she looked up and started sniffing, trying to catch the scent again. And then she paused.

It was like she caught something with her snout. Immediately, she dropped her nose to the floor and started walking at a pace.

I kept trying to take over and shift back but she wouldn’t let me.

By some sheer miracle, there was no one about, which I found odd for a Friday night at 2 in the morning. I was eagerly waiting for Aria to tell me she tracked the scent and somewhat located our mate.

It was another half hour before Aria stopped. Once again she put her snout into the air and sniffed, and then paused before saying.

Our mate is in here.

I hadn’t paid attention to where she had bought us but I decided to take over and shift before we pushed our luck and got spotted. Thankfully Aria let me take control with no resistance. She did promise me and she is a loyal wolf.

I looked at where she had lead us. And then my mouth fell open.

“A Gentlemen’s club? Our mate is in here?!” I proclaimed to Ari. She didn’t say anything and gave me a shrugging kind of response.

As if out of nowhere the doorman had re appeared. “You coming in love?” He asks as he looks me up and down. I can smell he’s human, so I’m gonna have to keep Ari in check around here.

“Well?” He asks me again, more impatiently.

“Um, yeah, sure” I finally reply.

“Just through here is where you pay your admission and can leave your coat. Have a good evening” he says. I walk through to pay the admission and go on into the main area. I’ve never been to a gentlemen’s club before. I don’t think I’ll come to one again though either.

I was about to leave when I caught the sandalwood scent again. Ari was howling ‘MATE’ frantically and I used all my will power to contain her.

I started looking around to find my mate and then,,,there he was. It was like no one else was in the club except me and him.

He was tall, 6ft at a guess. He was very broad with incredibly chiselled arms and chest, I could see the definition through his well fitting shirt.

I could see tattoos coming down onto his hands and coming up the side of his neck. He had dark brown hair that was slicked back but the sides of his head were shaved. He had stretchers in his ear lobes and a labret piercing in his bottom lip. Surrounding the piercing was a tidied, well groomed beard and looking up into his eyes, they were a beautiful mahogany brown. They were staring straight back into mine.

MATE! Aria cried.

He started to wonder over to me. My heart was racing; I never really get anxious, the training I’ve done has quashed that out of me. But here I was, frozen and terrified.

I tried to run but Ari, although not in full control of us, still wouldn’t let me.

Ari, what do I do?! That’s him, that’s our mate. Why am I scared? Why can’t I move? What do I say?!

Stay calm you i***t. You’re the one who’s wanted to meet him and here he is walking over to us and you want to run away?! What’s wrong with you?!

Dammit. I hated when she was right.

F**k. He was standing right in front of me. His eyes were fixated on me, as mine were on him. His scent was incredible and it made Aria do zoomies in my head.

Say something! She cried.

I was about to speak when my mate said,

“Hi there, my beautiful mate.” Hearing him call me his mate sent shivers through me. He took my hand in his and I felt a huge jolt of electricity surge through us. I had never felt this before, it was insane.

“H,,,h,,,hi” I eventually stuttered out as a brilliant smile grew on his face. With that, I knew he is mine and I am his.
