Chapter 1
It was winter and the evening was cold when Kelly dropped the most shocking word. Rose had just finished her day at the boutique “de le Cream”, she was tired but happy about the day's sales. She walked into their luxurious apartment, the one they had picked out together when they first married three years ago and found her husband sitting on the edge of the bed, his hands resting on his legs.
Hello dear?" she called softly as she walked towards him, sensing something was off. Her heart raced when she saw his face—a mixture of sadness and a resolved look.
"S.Sit down, Rose," he said, his voice calm but commanding.
She inhaled, And a chill ran down her spine as she sat beside him. “Honey, what's the matter?"
Kelly stared at her for a while, then spoke, his words like a blade slicing through her chest cave and making her heart bleed from pain. "I... I've met someone else, Rose."
She was startled, her mind struggling to comprehend the gravity of what he had said. "What do you mean by someone else? someone who?" Her voice was shaking, and she tried to reach for his hand, but he pulled away from her.
"I.I’m sorry. I don't love you anymore Rose. I..I never wanted it to be like this but there's a lady...and I've been seeing her secretly for a while now. See, I think it's time for us to separate…." Kelly's words came out in a haste, as though he wanted to escape from it and not mind the pain it may cause her.
Unstoppable tears gathered up in her eyes, but she blinked them back, refusing to show her weakness before the man who had just caused her so much pain. “Really? That's it Kelly? After everything we've been through, you're just going to throw it all away for a lady you just feel love with?" Her voice breaking, but she quickly composed herself. "You can't just end our marriage like this Kelly."
He stood up, pacing in the luxury bedroom. "You see…Rose, I—I"
"No!" She stood up too, her voice sharp. “Kelly, you don’t get to do this to me, I’ve been nothing but loyal to you, I loved you with everything and this is how you repay me? Never.
“Kelly turned to face her, his expression unreadable. “Rose, I’m sorry. I am. But I’ve made up my mind. I can’t keep living like this, in a lie."
We should end this way, with that, he dropped the divorce pepper on the bed and walked out, leaving Rose in a pool of tears. She dropped to her knees and screamed into the empty room smashing the bed lamp to pieces. Her heart was shattered.
---She was rooted to the floor, she could barely move. How could she live without Kelly? She glanced at the divorce pepper and shook her head, after all, she had sacrificed for him… where was she going to start? N..No I'm not signing it and I'm not going anywhere….
Suddenly the room door swung open and she held him on the phone with her…
Yes, my sweetheart. I have given her the divorce letter and asked her to leave but she's still here.
Drag her out…was the command she held from the other side of the phone…
Immediately, Kelly held her by the hair and dragged her onto the floor…it's time to leave Rose, my lover wants you to leave now, she’s on her way coming. I don't want her to meet you here and hope you have signed the Divorce letter. Your belongings will be sent to you…He kept saying as he held her firm by her hair sweeping the floor not minding her screaming from pain.
Rose continued to scream as Kelly dragged her across the cold marble floor. Her cries echoed through the Luxury apartment, but His heart was hard like a rock. Oh..the man she married, the man who once kissed away her fears and worries was lost in the hands of a strange woman. Now Kelly's place was a stranger fueled by greed, lust and hatred.
“Oh please stop! What happened to you, Kelly? And our beautiful love life?” she cried, holding the edge of the table frame, still trying to oppose.
“Ha.ha…you happened, Rose,” Kelly said. “when you become too relaxed, proud and full of yourself. You believe this empire was yours alone. No, it never was because now I built it.”
Her chest rose with great anger. “My father built this from his sweat. Kelly, you only sat at the head because I handed you the legal document and changed it to your name. Y.You ungrateful bastard, lying with—”
Before she could complete her last statement, a slap cracked across her beautiful cheek.
Then, the room was silent. Her breath seized, the pain was nothing compared to the betrayal piercing through her heart.
His eyes widened, I'm sorry…. he apologized. Not from guilt but from the awareness of his insolence. “I didn’t mean to hit you—”
She stood slowly, her hand pressed to her reddish cheek, her eyes bulging. “Kelly, you dare lay your hands on me.”
Just before he could respond, the room door swung wide.
My Darling Kelly?” came the voice Rose would recognize at any time.
Her best friend Ella stepped in like she owned the place, her heels clicking the marble floor, her red lips curved into a smile. Her long black hair fell to her back, and her eyes sparkled as they settled on Rose.
“Oh. Kelly, is she still here?” Ella pretended to be surprised. “I thought we agreed she’d be gone before I arrived?
Rose stood in shock, her knees stiff. “You… It’s you?” She had suspected Kelly of cheating on her and confined her best friend's intentions of hiring a private investigator to follow Kelly, to find out who the woman was not knowing it was her own best friend… Now she understands why the investigator couldn't find anything….
Her best friend Ella walked in confidently and elegantly, ignoring Rose’s stares. She circled the room like a new queen inspecting her luxurious room. “Oh, girlfriend…you had no idea how difficult it's, did you? All these years playing wife, and you didn’t notice your best friend warming your husband’s…?”
“Ella you’re so shameless, so you planned this,” Rose screamed. “Both of you're wicked. You mean all this time? You were secretly banging my husband…”
Kelly didn’t show any form of remorse. “Stop this emotional talk. Ella has been more of a partner to me than you ever were, Rose. She believed in me, in my dreams. Why you just…stand there giving me orders over your inherited fortune.”
She laughed between tears... “I didn't believe in you; in your dreams? Oh, what dreams did Ella believe in? By helping you forge documents, hide assets, and steal everything I inherited from my late parents?”
She walked up to Rose, and leaned in close to her, then said in her ear, “ Anything you like to believe.”
Rose was rooted in the spot. She let the pain of betrayal consume her, as hot droplets of tears fell from her face. She straightened her shoulder, cleaned her face, and faced them. “Ok. So you want the companies? You can have it. Guest you want the house, the money, the cars? Everything… you can have it. Remember this day and don’t think for a second that I’m signing this divorce pepper without a fight .”
Haahaa... “You’ve nothing to fight for. Kelly said…
She rushed to the floor, snatched the divorce papers, and ripped them into pieces. “Kelly, I. I’m not signing anything until I get back everything you stole from me. My inheritance, every single dim my father left me with. Do you want a divorce? Kelly be my guest because you’ll have to drag me through the court proceedings.”
“Oh, we will Rose,” Ella scoffed. “Be rest assured that you’ll lose everything.
“Haahha..we’ll see court,” Rose replied with a smile, her voice shaking.
Just before she could take a step, Kelly grabbed her by the hand. “You’re not staying here tonight, hope you no that,? Get out”
“Don’t touch me, you bastard” she screamed, brushing his arm away. “You already took everything, what else do you want?
Rose pushes past him, grabbing her clothes from the wardrobe. She didn’t care about the biting cold weather. She just had to get away—anywhere but from where she had once called home.
Just as she pushed open the front door, Kelly said behind her with a mockery voice, “The city is cruel, Wify. Let’s see how far you get without my name. Hahaha…they both laugh”
