There was no time to think. Limping, I rushed to the Pack hospital with the stray pup in my arms. Even though I had leapt out just in time to save it, the poor thing’s front leg had still been hit by the car. I glanced at the time—no doubt, I was going to be late. After a moment of hesitation, I dialed Alpha Nick’s number. “What is it?” His deep, crisp voice came through the line. “I’ve got something to deal with. I’ll be late this morning,” I said, trying to be responsible and ask for leave. But before I could finish, he cut me off. “You don’t need to tell me about trivial things like that.” Then he hung up without a second thought. I pursed my lips. Typical Alpha Nick—distant and impossible, never wanting to speak a word more to me than necessary, yet still trying to get close.
