Prologue
Third Person
Everyone looked up the television screen pinned at the white corridor wall after hearing the familiar tune of the campus broadcast. The familiar face of their leader revealed in her crimson colored dress, while her pale face showed a cheerful expression. She tapped at the microphone twice before clearing her voice and leaning forward.
"Good Afternoon, dear students of Saint Elizabeth's Integrated College! I, as your principal, am here to announce a very important event that shall begin tomorrow morning!"
Mumbling filled the atmosphere. Sounds of curiosity and questioning, while some made noises of excitement. Events and Contests were nothing but rare around the college...which gave them wonder to what this said event will be.
"Tomorrow morning is the start of our annual acquaintance camp! A school is willing to join this year's camporee, which also means for the rest of this afternoon, we will start inviting you to enter my office and sign the contract of consent. Once you sign, all the expenses, clothing and other essential items required are provided by our facilities. You must arrive early at the station with no luggage but yourself.
However, not everyone and just anyone will be taken in! We shall choose the best and most complex among you, those with traits favorable to the challenges ahead!"
Excitement and laughs filled the hallways all the way to the rooms. Almost everyone was eager to go and wanted to be a part of this camp. The cheering died down as the principal raised her finger and leaning to the mic once more.
"So everyone! be ready and await. For you might be one of the few lucky attendees of this wonderful event.
This is Miss Andraste Smith, and that is my announcement for today."
Eventually, the noises disappeared and everyone rushed to get to their classes. A student shrugged and walked down the halls, almost forgetting the entire scenario. She held to her textbooks tightly while her hazel-toned waves of hair fell down her back, dull brown eyes looking straight ahead.
But a teacher, she assumed was from a higher grade's Spanish class, stopped her and tapped her shoulder. She turned around and was looking up at him as he held out a small note in which was printed in black, bold letters. The moment she accepted, the teacher walked away and left her in the now empty halls. She read the small piece of paper in her hand.
"Aliya Marie Baker, please proceed to my office immediately."
She flipped the note around to see a faint printing of the College logo, followed by the principal's handwritten signature. Her eyes widened in surprise to see it was an official invitation, her mind haywire in sudden excitement. Walking up the stairs to the principal's office, she passes by a senior student looking at her with dull and tired eyes covered with a slightly messed bangs. She mumbled one thing.
"Decline the invitation" with that she walked away.
Aliya was slightly confused, but still went up the stairs. Her curiosity towards this event she was asked to be part of was too overwhelming that wondering about that senior was the least of her problems. Because it was too little for her to know...
...that she should've listened to her.
