Breaking the Bond -© E. J. Evans. All rights reserved. No part of this book shall be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means with written permission of the author. Lexi started to freak out sitting alone in the small wooden cabin. Even though the small lounge was cosy the surrounding woods were dark and gloomy. She only had to spend two nights there before joining her co-worker for their big business meeting in the centre of Baal City but she didn't think she'd last that long. Unknown to her co-worker this was part of Lexi's escape plan, her runaway trip; from all her problems, her past and hopefully her feelings. When her office booked the trip Lexi had been explicitly informed she would need to book her own accommodation. Following a rough turn of events, the small detail had slipped her mind and she forgot to book a hotel near the meeting spot; the travel agent booked her the next best accommodation in her price range near the bustling city. Right about now, as the floor boards made strange unwanted noises, she wished she had checked the accommodation details. The whole placed screamed danger. To her this was the start of any horror film where she was surely going to be the first victim. Having sat on the porch overlooking the small lake for a couple of hours, her dainty hands gripped around the mug of tea; brewed to calm her nerves, she noticed another cabin hidden by the shadows of the tall trees. The strange cabin smaller than the one she currently occupied. All the lights were off so she assumed that it were empty. There were no other premises as far as the eye could see only a small town further down the dirt track on the outskirts of Baal City. Out here, in the midst of the wilderness, you were truly alone. Giving up on scanning the dense woods for any monsters, she settled in bed with another hot cup of tea and a book. Not the usual read of thrillers tantalised her tonight. A friend had lent her a steamy novel about a girl exploring a polygamous relationship with three brothers. One had deep dark secrets and the other brother may or may not be dying. The third had been a surprise. The story line blasé, what got her friend hooked were the steamy s*x sessions, Lexi could understand why. The men knew what the woman wanted and how to give it. Lexi wondered if the author had experienced the same or whether she was reading her fantasy. It tickled her. Well it made her blush but she needed this bit of excitement. The steamy sessions worked as a perfect distraction from the creepy cabin. A loud thud jolted Lexi awake, the main cabin lights were off and she was slumped in bed, her book had fallen to the wooden floor. Looking at the bed stand, she noticed her half empty cup of tea, cold to the touch. Realising she must have fallen asleep in the middle of one of the chapters; she rubbed her eyes, flicked the switch off on the lamp and decided to curl deeper into the blankets for warmth expecting to return to dream land. The sound of multiple car doors shutting in the distance stirred her attention and curiosity. Looking at her phone it flashed just past 3am. Climbing out of bed, she slowly peeked through the laced curtained window. Three black cars had pulled up outside the opposite cabin. Two men were standing by each car. A large man dressed in black attire from the lead car passing instructions to the others. This looked bad. The cabin hidden across the way too small for all of those men to be on vacation. Something fishy was going on in that cabin and just like a horror movie she couldn’t drag her eyes away from the scene. Ducking lower, she watched as the men surveyed their surroundings. Two huge guys marched to the back of the middle SUV opening the boot. To Lexi’s surprise, they pulled out an unconscious bound man, dragging him to the red cabin door. Multiple thoughts ran through Lexi's mind. One certain, that if they caught her then she was in huge trouble. Fear planted her in the spot. She was lucky the glass was slightly tinted; she had guessed this was due to the intense sun the cabin experienced in the morning. The other men watched on. After a few minutes, the first car drove off, leaving the remaining two vehicles. Lexi watched as the two occupants of the last vehicle stood outside, surveying the area, while the others entered in the cabin dragging the poor unconscious man through the threshold. What seemed like an eternity later, the two men left the cabin, locking the door and entered their perspective vehicles. The remaining vehicles drove off following the direction of the first. Lexi had no idea what to do. She should call the cops. Yes, that would be the logical thing to do in any k********g situation. Dialling 911, she started to pace her cabin, peeking across the lake every few seconds. No signal. There was Wifi. Could she send a message to the cops? A strange feeling fluttered in her stomach as though she was running out of time. Something told her to get that guy out. Something was pulling her to the other cabin. Yet her brain flooded her senses with images of every horror story. What if that unconscious guy is actually the bad guy? Blocking out all logical thoughts she ran to the kitchen and grabbed a large knife. Being useless in any confrontation, the knife would be just for show and she hoped she would never have to use it. "If I ever starred in any movie, I'm pretty sure that I'd die first. This is stupid". Lexi could only mutter to herself. An internal civil war broke out between her logic and gut feeling. Someone was in trouble and she knew what it felt like to be completely hopeless. She had wished many times in the past that someone would save her, even though her wish came true, it had been too late. She had suffered and carried the scars. Gut feeling won as it touched her kind heart, she slipped on her walking boots and hoodie. Opening the cabin door she checked her surrounds before dashing across the jetty like structure that formed a bridge over the lake to the other cabin. Without a second thought she was at the red door where the mysterious men had only moments ago dragged someone through. Taking in deep breaths, Lexi tried to lower her heart rate. She couldn’t panic now. It was too late, she was at the door. A heavy, locked door. She pressed her ear to see if she could pick up any noises from inside. "What if the guy is dead and you're leaving DNA everywhere". She rolled her eyes at her internal logic. "Then I'd run back to the cabin and or run a mile to the next house", her gut fought back. "Yeah, like you run". She scoffed at herself. Earlier she had watched the thug like man lock the door and place the key in secret compartment under the window sill. Reaching down she grabbed the key, wiping away the last of the cobwebs and opened the door. The small cabin being pitch black gave even more of an eerie feel to the place. Unlike hers, this cabin was completely unfurnished. The moon shone in through the open door behind her, her frame casting a large shadow. After a few blinks her eyes adjusted to show one large room with a small kitchen area at the back and a door. One can only assume that lead to the bathroom. Thick curtains hung over the windows. As her eyes adjusted, Lexi noticed a silhouette of a man lying in the middle of the floor. The adrenaline pumped though her veins as she crept over to the figure, holding her breathe and the right hand gripping the kitchen knife. She took in the figure that lay there motionless, his back facing her. She had no idea whether he was dead or not. She noticed that his hands were bound with heavy chains sprawled out in front of him. What frightened her more was the fact that his shirt was torn and unmistakable patches of blood all the way down his back. The sleeves of his arms torn away completely and his skin littered in small scratches. She would be in deep s**t if those other men found her. Pretty sure no one would find her body. Yet she pressed on. Yep, would definitely die first. She confirmed to herself. Taking in a deep breath, Lexi moved to circle around the figure wanting to see the man’s face. His thick shiny dark hair stuck to his head and his face showed signs of a black eye. Even so, it was a face of pure perfection. With a strong jaw, straight nose, plump lips and long eyelashes, Lexi wondered if this guy was in fact some sort of demi god. Even in the moonlight it was abundantly clear he was good looking. She yearned to see the colour of his eyes, her granny’s words echoed in her mind ‘the eyes are the windows into the soul’, as she rolled her eyes at the saying. There was no other way to describe this man but as beautiful. Sculpted by perfection. Impure thoughts invaded her mind as she stood in the cabin staring at the unconscious sexy man. She wondered what his lips tasted like and how her body would react to his weight on top of her. His large hands roaming her body. Blushing at her own thoughts, she shook her head slightly pushing any thoughts stemmed from her steamy book and reminded herself of the danger she put herself in. Lexi tried to work out how she was going to move the sexy man. She could tell that he was tall even when lying down. He was also bulky and muscular. Lexi was a 5ft 6 with a non athletic build. She could hardly lift her backpack that she had packed for her great escape from her suffocating town. Her upper strength was next to nothing. Her appearance was the last thing on her mind as she wanted to blend in, almost be part of the furniture. She didn't want anyone to remember her. She was neither happy or disappointed in her skin and loving food wasn’t a crime in her eyes. Her long legs were toned with a nice round ass from the walking so got to grips that her stomach wasn’t exactly flat, she thought she was womanly, not that she would ever show off her figure wearing only baggy clothes. How was she going to lift this Adonis like man out of the cabin with her spaghetti arms? She continued to assess the situation; she then surveyed the heavy chains around his wrists. On closer inspection the chains must have seriously chaffed or he fought excessively as his wrists were in seriously bad condition. They seemed to be blistering, almost as if he was having an allergic reaction. Scanning the room, there was nothing that could cut the chains. Lexi did notice the rug rolled up against the kitchen cupboard. An idea popped into her head, she could drag him. He would need to roll onto the rug first, that would work, right? Now she needed to figure out if he was alive or dead. Cautiously Lexi nudged the guys foot. “Sir? Hello” Nothing. She nudged a bit harder. “Hello. Sir?” Nothing. This time she kicked the sole of the man’s foot "Aarrggh." A low groan came from the floor and Lexi, startled, jumped back gripping the knife tighter while suppressing her own scream. There was no going back now.
