Chapter 1 - A Sweet Prelude to Parenthood
Nine months of waiting. A lifetime of promises.
Vinz and Irene are eagerly counting down the days until they welcome their baby girl, Lily. As Irene navigates the beautiful final stage of pregnancy, Vinz makes it his mission to shower his wife with nourishment, endless affection, and the sweetest morning surprises.
To celebrate the profound change in their lives, Vinz whisks Irene away on a secret trip. Blindfolded and expectant, she is met with a breathtaking view and a realization: the greatest love stories are told through care, effort, and the most unexpected, beautiful gestures.
Vinz: Good morning, my love.
Irene: Good morning too, my love. Oh, what is all this? Why did you cook so much? Did I forget an occasion today?
Vinz: Come here, sit down. There's no occasion today, but of course, I'm cooking you nutritious food because, you know, you're close to giving birth. You and our baby Lily need to be healthy. Ahh, I'll feed you.
Irene: Oh, my. My husband is so sweet and caring.
Vinz: Of course! Because, you know, you're going to be a Mommy, and I'm going to be a Daddy.
Irene: (Smiling) Look, baby Lily is kicking!
Vinz: Baby Lily must have heard me! Baby, Mommy and Daddy love you! Hurry up and come out, Baby, okay? Because Mommy and Daddy are so excited to see you. Right, Mommy?
Irene: Absolutely.
Vinz: Alright, let's eat. (He feeds Irene.)
Irene: Daddy's cooking is so delicious!
Vinz: Of course! Everything I cook is delicious. Ahm, my love, we're going somewhere later.
Irene: Where are we going?
Vinz: It's a secret. You'll see later.
Irene: Oh, really? You have a secret now, huh?
Vinz: Yes, My love.
(They talk happily while eating.)
AFTER A FEW HOURS
Vinz: Let's go, my love.
Irene: Oh, here I am.
(They get into the car.)
Irene: My love, just tell me where we're going.
Vinz: Alright, I'll tell you. I'm taking you to the most beautiful place.
Irene: Oh, really?
Vinz: Yes.
AFTER ONE HOUR
Vinz: Close your eyes.
Irene: Why, my love?
Vinz: Just close them first.
Irene: Okay, my eyes are closed.
Vinz: Just a moment. Let me help you. There you go. Gently step down. Okay, just walk.
Irene: Ouh, why did we stop? Are we there?
Vinz: Okay, I'm going to count to three, then open your eyes. One... two... three!
Irene: (Surprised) Wow, my love! It's so beautiful here! There are so many flowers! This place is gorgeous, my love!
Vinz: It is beautiful here. That's why I brought you here, because I know your favorite place is one with lots of flowers, right?
Irene: Thank you, my love.
Vinz: I love you, my love. (He kisses Irene.) Let's take a picture first? Come on!
(They celebrate and enjoy their time together.)
(A few days later, early in the morning, Irene woke up with excruciating stomach pain.)
IRENE: Ahh-h-h! My love!
VINZ: My love!
IRENE: It hurts! I think I'm going into labor!
(Vinz carried Irene and immediately rushed her to the hospital.)
VINZ: We are almost at the hospital, my love.
IRENE: Ouch! (She groaned in pain.)
VINZ: We're here. (He carried her in.) Nurse! Doc! My wife! She's in labor!
DOCTOR: This way, Ma'am. You are not allowed to enter, Sir. Only the patient giving birth is permitted to enter there. Please wait outside.
(When Irene gave birth to their baby, Lily, she made no sound. She had no pulse and was no longer breathing.)
DOCTOR: I am sorry, Ma'am... but your baby is gone while still in your womb.
IRENE: No! No, it can't be! She was kicking just yesterday! So she cannot be gone! (She cried.)
DOCTOR: I am sorry. But we must accept that your baby is gone.
IRENE: No way! My baby! Mommy is right here!
(The Doctor stepped out.)
VINZ: Doc! How are our baby Lily and my wife Irene?
DOC: I am sorry, Sir, but your baby is gone. We found that she had stopped breathing inside your wife's womb.
VINZ: What? That's impossible! (He rushed inside and saw his wife crying, holding the deceased baby.)
IRENE: (Crying loudly) My love! My baby is still alive! She cannot be dead! (While hugging the deceased child.)
VINZ: My love, calm down, my love. (While crying.)
IRENE: No! No! My baby! (She cried loudly until she suddenly passed out.)
VINZ: My love! Wait, my love! Doc! My wife! Doc! My love, please fight! Please be strong!
(The Doctor stopped.)
DOCTOR: I am sorry, Sir. Your wife is also gone.
VINZ: No! (He cried loudly while hugging his deceased wife and child.) My love! No! (He cried.)
(Suddenly, the baby, Lily, moved and began to cry.)
(The father was shocked and called the nurse and doctor.)
VINZ: Doc! Nurse! The baby moved! My daughter is alive, Doc! My daughter is alive! (While crying.)
(The nurse and doctor came and examined the child. After a few minutes.)
VINZ: Doc, how is my daughter?
DOC: The baby is alive and stable now. That child is truly fortunate to have survived. This is the first time it has happened here that someone died and came back to life after a few minutes. That child is truly fortunate. And I am sorry, my deepest condolences for the passing of your wife.
VINZ: (He cried and remained silent.)
(Even as he lingered in the embrace of Irene's lifeless body, Vinz slowly wiped away his tears and turned toward the cradle. There, he saw Lily his daughter, the solitary miracle amidst his devastation. His heart, which only moments ago had shattered into pieces, was suddenly flooded with overwhelming wonder and gratitude. In that moment, Vinz chose to cling to the rhythm of Lily's breath, his only remaining connection to his beloved wife.Though the wound in Vinz's heart never fully healed, he found his only strength and hope in Lily's miraculous life. During the first few weeks of caring for the infant, Lily's presence became a light amidst his deep sorrow, his sole living connection to the late Irene. Every time he gazed at the child, his promise to love and protect her grew stronger. With every sound and movement from Lily, Vinz slowly began to see the start of a new life filled with a love that only his daughter could provide.
