19 The More The Merrier

Walt had expected a lengthy argument between them but he did not think they would have to fight for the right to claim the dead dragon. Everyone seemed exhausted but Miranda who had instigated the whole fight. Although he knew it would have probably happened anyway. “Come at me bastard!” Miranda yelled at Hogan who as his profession suggested, went mad with anger and ran towards her, brandishing his swords. With a smirk, Miranda slyly avoided his attacks, moving around him and scratching him with her razor-sharp claws. The mad warrior screamed and growled as he tried to s***h at her but she giggled as she moved about, teasing him “Is there not a way we can avoid violence?” Walt asked as held the hilt of his sword, hoping he would not have to fight. “I don’t think so, you started it,” Michael said and pointed his scepter at Walt, ready to fire. Walt pulled his sword free from the scabbard and charged towards Michael who shot fireballs from the glowing orb on his scepter. Walt swopped and dodged the attacks then slashed at Michael, causing the metals of their weapons to ring against each other. A loud crack in the sky sounded and a heavy snowfall started. Hogan was still slashing his swords at Miranda who was now finding it a bit difficult to avoid his attacks. He lunged for her and she flipped over his head but he saw that coming and used the hilt of his sword to hit her back, sending her tumbling to the ground. Jenny saw this and pulled her huge sword free from her back and swung at Hogan who managed to hold his swords up in time to defend against the attack. “I don’t want to fight you,” Jenny said as she pressed her sword down on him. “Me neither gorgeous,” Hogan replied and pushed her back with all his strength. Then they charged towards each other again. Ailsa flew up and watched the fight between her teammates and the strangers, contemplating what to do. Compared to the dragon they had just defeated; the magician and mad warrior were easy pickings but they had helped them. While she was still contemplating, she heard Walt yell. “Wait!” they all stopped to look at him “this will be too messy. Both of you, against me, a single combat.” Michael and Hogan looked at each other then back at the spell swordsman. Michael reasoned quickly that Walt could not possibly take them both and it would end in a less bloody way. Plus, he had a trick up his sleeve. “Don’t be an i***t Walt,” Miranda said and did a quick flip to land at his side “Ailsa and I can make quick work of these bums.” Hogan growled at her when she said that and she made a face at him. Walt sighed and gave her a sharp look that made her roll her eyes and back off. “Alright, a single combat.” Michael agreed and assumed a pose with his scepter. Hogan stood beside him and looked up at Ailsa then smirked at Walt who noticed the gesture and tightened his grip on his sword. He was a spell swordsman and he was seasoned with battle. He knew he could take both of them but wanted to assess their skills and he could only do that if he did direct battle with them. Without any more speaking, Michael used a blessing spell on Hogan, causing his mad warrior skills to accelerate into an even crazier level. Hogan was very pleased by this and laughed aloud as he charged towards Walt, his feet sinking into the deep snow that was settling around them. Walt stood his ground and let the mad warrior come at him. Hogan used fury and slashed his swords at Walt rapidly. Walt stayed calm and use x-blade to defy all the attacks. He watched Hogan closely and saw how he skillfully used his swords to try and hit him at different angles. At that moment, Michael also charged forward and use his scepter to send a wind blade hurling towards Walt who jumped quickly to avoid the strike. He twisted in the air and used his foot to kick Hogan’s face, causing him to fall back into the soft snow with a thump. Michael gritted his teeth and summoned one of his best skills which were ‘praise for all’. With this skill, he could attack his opponents with all the elements for a minute. He quickly sent multiple fireballs shooting towards Walt but he avoided them skillfully. Again, he used the wind to send sharp blade-like attacks at him but Walt was too fast for them and swung over them effortlessly. Ailsa watched with her breath in her chest as Walt dashed towards Michael who was still firing attacks at him. Suddenly, water started to hurl towards Walt at a dangerous speed, freezing instantly as it moved. Jenny screamed for Walt to look out, Hogan had gotten back up and was running to attack him. Just as Hogan and the freezing water were about to reach Walt, he leaped into the air, causing the water to hit Hogan and sent him spiraling backward. Michael widened his eyes as he saw his partner get defeated. His minute attack was up and Walt was coming at him with his sword. Without thinking, Michael held his scepter up in a form of protection but Walt kicked it away and slashed at him, making him fly back and land into the snow. The front of his garment was torn open and he was bleeding out. He was exhausted and could not see very well. Through his haze, he saw his scepter and tried to grasp it but it was kicked out of his reach by a black boot. Michael looked up with blurry eyes and saw a sword pointed at him. Then he blacked out.   The air smelled warm and toasty like someone started a fire on a cold night. Michael’s eyes opened slowly until they adjusted to the scene in front of him. He could see the demon cat they called Miranda leaning against a wall and playing with a black cat. He tried to sit up but he felt very hazy and decided against it, then Miranda glanced at him and smirked. “He’s awake,” she said. That’s when he looked around and saw the others. Hogan was the one he saw first, running towards him. They were in a cave that was dimly lit by a fire. Outside, the storm had kicked up and snow was falling faster. When he fainted earlier, he thought that he would find himself in the Land of Origin next or be awakened into real life. Instead, his partner and the man who had almost killed him were looking down at him with concerned looks. “Where? What happened?” his voice sounded groggy and foreign to his own ears. “We’re in the dragon’s cave. We had to take shelter from the storm,” Walt replied and smiled at him. “I-I don’t understand, why didn’t you-” “Kill you?” Miranda interrupted and glanced at Walt “nobody knows. Why don’t you tell us, Walt?” “Shut up Alice,” Jenny said but Miranda just scoffed. “Well, you see…I knew I could beat you but I also knew you were good, highly skilled players. I wanted to test how good you are, I never intended to kill you,” Walt explained. “Yeah,” Hogan added “after you passed out, he asked the sexy elf to heal me and we all hauled ourselves into this cave with you and that,” he pointed to the giant carcass of the Ice Spell Dragon. Michael’s eyes bulged at the sight of the monstrous beast, then he looked down at his torso to where Walt had cut him. There was only a scar left in the place of the wound. “Did you heal me too?” he asked and looked up at Ailsa who smiled at him then crouched to touch his scar with a slight frown on her pretty face. “Yes. It was a bit tricky because the wound was deep but I managed,” she said and showed him her pearly white teeth. He smiled back and looked up at Walt. Then he started to explain that when they were about to fight, he had activated one of his spells ‘curse of the undead’. He took a deep breath and told them that the spell was triggered by his death and if he died, it would have made the people responsible for his death weak. Being weak on the Ice Field was as good as being dead because only strong professions could withstand the harsh elements. “Wow, respect…” Miranda said. “Well, now I’m really glad I didn’t kill you,” Walt said with a nervous laugh and scratched the back of his head “and also, I think you are both great and I would like to offer you positions in our little team. It’s completely up to you. If you’re not interested, you can still stay here until after the storm and we’ll go our separate ways.” Michael and Hogan looked at each other with the same question of acceptance in their eyes. Hogan nodded and Michael smiled then extended his hand “we’ll be honored to be part of your team.” Walt smiled and accepted the handshake, thinking about how his team had tripled in number from what he had started with.
