18 Dragon Down

1510 Words
Tracing the Ice Spell Dragon was very easy because of the amount of shedding it left behind it as it flew away. Walt and the girls ran in front while the newcomers followed. Up ahead, they saw as the dragon as it staggered in its flight then fell to the ground, causing shock tremors to go through the ground. “Whoa! Do you think it’s dead?” Jenny asked. A roar from that direction answered her. Ailsa flew off the ground to survey the area ahead and locate where the Ice Spell Dragon had landed. It was hard to miss, the fall had created a crater in the frozen land. She flew towards it and the others ran quickly behind her. When they finally reached where the dragon was, it seemed to have recovered and was waiting for them, with a menacing presence. “Okay, this is it you guys. The final battle, let’s give it all we’ve got. Full attacks!” Walt yelled and charged towards the dragon. “What a lame speech,” Miranda said and rolled her eyes. Ailsa and Jenny laughed and they all ran behind Walt. Storming ahead with their weapons in their hands and a battle cry. The magician and mad warrior also joined in the battle. The dragon had a lot of fight in it still and blew out consecutive ice blasts at them. Although, because of their earlier win, they were all pumped with adrenalin and avoided most of the blasts. Walt ran forward with his sword just as the dragon started to gather light around its horn. The beam was about to go off when Walt jumped and used a moonlight s***h attack, slicing most the horn clean of the monster’s head. The Ice Spell Dragon turned its head up and let out a blood-curdling screech. The sound made Jenny cover her ears, it sounded like it was in a lot of pain which made her immensely sad and feel pity for the creature. The feeling was short-lived as the dragon still had a trick up its icy sleeve. When it stopped screeching, it looked down and locked its red eyes on Jenny. She gasped as she watched the Ice Spell Dragon draw in air through its nose and let it out, freezing her in place. “No!” Ailsa screamed. She, Miranda, and Walt tried to run towards Jenny but the dragon used its powerful wings to blow up a mighty breeze that blew them clean away. It started to stomp towards Jenny with murder in its eyes. As it reached her, it was about to use its tail to break her icy cage which would kill her immediately but the mad warrior swooped in and chopped it up into chunks. Jenny watched with widened eyes as the blood from the dragon’s tail spilled all over the frozen block she was trapped in. Although she was aware that she was in ice, she did not feel cold but she could not move a muscle. The man who had saved her life looked into her eyes and said something that looked like ‘are you okay’? but she could not hear anything. He smiled and winked at her before taking off again to fight the beast. Miranda never did much of physical battle but was good at stealing and hiding. When she noticed that the mad warrior had cut up the tail of the dragon and cause it to lose orientation, she started to run towards it. Using her power of stealth to stay in its shadows and throw as many punches as she could. She had no weapons apart from her claws and she extended them and dug them into the dragon’s thick icy armor as many times as she could before she got flung off the beast. Walt yelled to Ailsa, telling her to go unfreeze Jenny as they all cornered the horn-less and tail-less Ice Spell Dragon. She ran to do as he said and the dragon let out some more frightening screeches that were different from the roars it gave earlier. Then the sounds stopped altogether. Ailsa gasped and looked back to see the dragon lying dead on the ground, her man standing above it with a bloody sword in his hand. She smiled, feeling oddly content that Walt had been the one to deliver the killing blow to the dragon. Ailsa quickly ran to Jenny and used her control of nature to create steam from the ground and melt her icy cage, being careful not to break any of the ice so it does not injure Jenny. After a minute, Jenny was freed and fell to her knees in a pool of freezing water, coughing. She now felt the cold and started shivering but Ailsa quickly used some of her powers to warm her up. “Is it-” cough “over?” Jenny asked. “Yes,” Ailsa said and helped her friend up to her feet. “Great, finally…can I complain again about how these things always target me?” Jenny half screamed as Ailsa supported her so she could walk. Ailsa laughed and they walked towards the others who were busy making sure the Ice Spell dragon was truly dead. “Jenny! You’re alive!” it was Miranda who screamed as she saw them approaching “look, we killed a dragon while you were playing freeze tag,” she said with a giggle making Jenny glare at her. “Shut up Alice,” Jenny said. She refused to call Miranda by her actual name. Miranda laughed and did a handstand; she was filled with more energy than even Ailsa which annoyed her a little. Walt rolled his eyes at their antics and glanced at the magician who saved his life and the mad warrior that he wasn’t sure he would like. “You’re pretty good players, I’m Walt. This is Ailsa, Jenny, and Miranda.” Walt said to the magician who gave him a tired smile. “So are you. My name is Michael, I’m a magician as you can probably tell and this is Hogan,” Michael said, waving towards his partner who had a smirk on his face that Walt wanted to wipe off. “Pleasure to make your acquaintance, although we’ve met before,” Hogan said and glanced at Ailsa who gave him a death stare that only made his smirk even bigger. Walt noticed the look but said nothing because he was grateful to them for their help in defeating the Ice Spell Dragon and did not really want any conflict. “Hogan and I were tracing traveling along the Ice Field canyon looking for some task when we saw the dragonfly by. We were chasing it and saw it fall from the sky into the canyon,” Michael started to explain when they all sat on the ground out of exhaustion. Walt and Ailsa paid attention to him while Miranda laid on her back, playing with her claws and Jenny stared at Hogan who had saved her earlier. She thought he was cute. “I thought some freak accident must have happened because it was weird that the dragon just dropped out of the sky. Anyway, Hogan and I went down to fight it and saw that it was wounded, that’s when I started to think there were probably other people fighting it too.” “Thank you for saving me,” Jenny said to Hogan, completely ignoring Michael’s explanation. “Anytime, I like to be in the business of helping pretty ladies,” he replied and winked at her again. Jenny blushed and looked away which made Miranda roll her eyes. “Okay,” Miranda said and sat up “thank you, you were very good, yada yada ya. Now scram, we need to collect our reward,” “Alice!” Jenny whispered at her. “You’ll get to flirt with him later, we need to solve this now,” Miranda replied sassily, making Jenny clench her fists. They all got back to their feet, Michael frowning and Hogan scowling at the sharp-mouthed demon cat. Walt winced because he knew the matter of collecting prices would come in and he was not sure what to do. “I don’t know what you mean by we, but Hogan and I killed that dragon as much as any of you. So the reward belongs to all of us and should be shared equally.” “Uh, I don’t think so buddy,” Miranda said, with her hand on her hip “by we, I mean everyone here except you two. We have been scouting this dragon for weeks and had a foolproof plan that would have worked perfectly with or without your help. But if you want something so bad, you can have the tail you chopped up. Maybe it’d go nicely with some beer,” her tone was so feisty and bossy that the rest of her teammates said nothing. “Shut your mouth you dumb b***h!” Hogan yelled and unsheathed his swords, about to charge towards her but got held back by Michael who looked at Walt with questioning eyes. “Look, I appreciate all of your help but we did more work than the two of you. So, the reward can’t be equal,” Walt said. Michael nodded with a slight smile and lowered his hand that was holding Hogan back. “I guess there’s only one thing left to do,” Michael said and assumed a pose “we’re going to have to fight you, sorry.”
