25 The Watermark Dragon

1658 Words
They arrived at the small hilly island that was said to hold the Watermark Dragon. The sea serpent dropped them off at the beach of the island. Scott placed his fist in his palm and bowed to the creature. “Thank you, we will call you again,” he said. The serpent screeched and dove back into the water with a splash. “That was not bad, for a simp,” Miranda said and Scott beamed at her, happy that he got a compliment from her. Walt turned around to face the island, there were no signs of a dragon anywhere, they might have to wait until night to be able to track it properly. “Ailsa, Michael, Miranda, can you feel any mana around?” Walt asked and the three of them closed their eyes. “Yes,” Ailsa said and looked at Walt “but it seems to be underground, like-” “Like it’s in the water under the island or something,” Miranda interrupted and Ailsa nodded her agreement. Walt stroked his chin thoughtfully, then a lightbulb went off in his head, they would not have to wait till night after all. He snapped his fingers. “Michael, you said the creature only responds to magical attacks yes?” he asked and the magician nodded “okay, so we’ll stick to the plan. You, Ailsa, and Miranda will launch attacks at it. Ailsa, use your control of nature to lure it into open waters, Hogan and I will draw its attention and try to trap it. Michael, that will be your cue to take it down.” “What do I do?” asked Jenny. “You and Scott will be our back up, this shouldn’t take long. Go, team!” They launched into action. Ailsa flew off the ground and held her hands up, feeling the flow of the ocean. She mimicked the strong mana from the dragon and used the wind to blow the energy towards where the dragon was. They all stood in a battle pose, facing the ocean in wait for the Watermark Dragon. Then, they saw bubbles rising near the surface of the water. “There!” Jenny screamed and they saw the beast rise. It was enormous. Like the sea serpent, it had no limbs but it was twice as big and had huge, powerful wings. Its eyes were glowing green as it opened its mouth to let out a resounding roar that made the ground under them shake. The body of the dragon seemed to be covered in tiny sparkling green stones which they realized was the dragon’s armor. “Don’t let it fly or get out of the water! It’ll become too powerful!” Michael yelled and started shooting fireballs from his scepter to the dragon. Ailsa began to launch multiple arrow shots at once and quickly realized that it had no effect. “Why isn’t this working?” she screamed. “Use magical attacks!” Miranda screamed back and launched herself off the ground, managing to land on the dragon and discovering it had a slimy body. She shuddered in disgust and used her stealth attacks to claw at its body, causing it to screech. The Watermark Dragon began to flap its wings and twist its body, causing Miranda to scream as she tried to cling on to it but it was too slippery and she fell off screaming. “Got you!” Scott said as he caught her in his arms. She looked up at him in shock and he smirked “saved you twice now,” he said. Her shocked face turned into a frown and she kicked until she flipped away from him. “I would have landed on my feet, I always do,” she said and he rolled his eyes. “A thank you would be nice,” he said and she flushed “thank you,” she muttered “let’s get back to work!” she said and took off again, leaving Scott smiling. “It’s trying to fly. How do we stop it?” Hogan asked Walt. Walt said nothing and reached into his knapsack, grabbing a fishing net he took from the docks. He yelled at Michael and told him to cast a spell on the fishing net to make it bigger and stronger. Then, he threw one end to Hogan and they both ran towards the dragon at full speed. When they got very close to it, they pushed themselves off the ground and threw the net over the dragon, trapping it. They landed on their feet and both pulled at either end of the net, trying to keep the beast down. “Michael! Now!” Walt screamed, feeling strained as he held on to the net. The Watermark Dragon screeched and let out a gushing stream of water from its throat, completely drenching all of them. “Ugh!” Miranda screamed, “I hate water!” Michael hovered off the ground and pointed his green orb at the beast. He smiled and shot a giant fireball at it. The Watermark Dragon screeched again then it went silent and went tumbling down. Jenny gasped as she saw it falling down towards her and used her shield spell to prevent it from crushing her. When the dust from the dragon’s fall cleared off, Ailsa helped Jenny to her feet and they all let out a breath of relief at their victory. “That was so much easier than that Ice Spell Dragon,” Miranda said “although, not quite as annoying” she pouted as she squeezed her hair, letting out the water. “It was you guys that fought the Ice Spell Dragon?” Scott asked and Miranda smirked. Without wasting time, they dragged the carcass out of the ocean onto land where they were stunned by its full size. Michael told Walt that the green stones covering the beast were the magical materials that they needed to strip it of. They all started the tiresome work of picking off the stones one by the other. By the time they were done, it was already night and the full moon came out. “I thought the full moon was tomorrow,” Ailsa whispered as they all stared up at the bright night sky. “Yeah,” Walt said and then they heard humming and looked at the leftover carcass. It was glowing and started to hover. Miranda crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. “Of course, it’s happening again,” she said and the light became brighter, exploding into tiny droplets of water that floated all around them and shimmered in the moonlight. In place of the carcass, they saw a figure and they were suddenly put in a trance. “Congratulations. Task completed: high-level boss, Eternal tide – weeping of the Watermark Dragon,” the system said, and once again, like when they defeated the Ice Spell Dragon, a clip began to play. They saw a tall raven-haired man with purple eyes. He was sitting on a throne and was surrounded by a lot of people who were talking and moving around. He left and moved into a room that seemed to be in the middle of a volcano. The man seemed sad and suddenly got up. He left the palace in a disguise and traveled far until he reached Sardi city. They saw him enter a tavern and sit. Once again, everyone around him seemed to be talking all the time which appeared to be what he hated. He left the tavern and headed towards the beach that they were told had been abandoned. The man summoned the sea serpent and it carried him across the ocean, dropping him on the island they were currently on. Now on the island, the man seemed to be at peace and moved around until he came near a cove where a green glow was coming from. The man entered the cave and saw that it was filled with some emeralds. He smiled and grabbed one. Suddenly, a huge glowing green phantom appeared and swallowed him. Transforming him into the Watermark Dragon. They were returned. “That was intense,” Jenny whispered. “Yeah, way better story than last time,” Miranda replied. “Thanks,” a voice said and they all turned to see the man in the clip smiling at them “my name is Astaroth. I am the chief of demons, or I like to call myself, the demon king!” he said and gave them a bright grin. They looked at each other uncomfortably and Astaroth cleared his throat. “Anyways, thanks for freeing me from my dragon prison. Only a warrior who killed and stripped me can save me, yada yada ya, okay bye,” “Wait,” Walt called him back, surprised at the chief of demon’s attitude “why were you crying every night of the full moon?” he asked. Astaroth sighed and turned back to face them, looking as though he were bored. “As the chief of the dragons, I had to spend a lot of time in hot and uncomfortable situations, literally. Everyone around me was just so…ugh, you know? Anyways, I wanted some peace and quiet and coolness. So I came here because I heard that the Ocean of Sigh was the coolest place in the world, or was it calmest? I don’t know. So I got here, and touched some gems and bam! I’m a dragon. Totally uncool if you ask me,” he said in a highly animated way that made Walt scratched the back of his head, wondering if the chief of demons was really a system prompt. “I was crying on every full moon because it was the time when we have the monthly games in the demon world and I couldn’t go because I was stuck here for thousands of years,” Astaroth said with a pout and they all looked at each other again. “You cried for thousands of years because you couldn’t play a game?” Ailsa asked, bewildered. “Yeah, there’s blood, fire, and all that good stuff. You’re an elf, you wouldn’t get it. Anyways, enough chitchat. For saving me, I reward you all.” He rewarded Walt with the Key of Tide, Miranda was given the Recessive stealth and shadow trick skills because she was a demon. The rest were rewarded with level ups. Even though Scott was a demon, he only got a level up because he had no hidden profession, unlike Miranda. Astaroth disappeared and the gang left the island on the back of the sea serpent.
