She's an epitome of beauty. I still can't believe she's my true mate. After all these years of waiting, it finally feels right. It was all worth it. Nyx Jewel.
Six years ago, after the night Majesty and I discovered the woman created for us, I embarked on a journey to the human region to learn about her identity.
It didn't take long before I stumbled upon her obituary on a billboard. She was a goddess in her world, too. The youngest billionaire whose story had ended tragically. I didn't meddle much before returning. I felt there was no need to search further. She was dead to them.
Lost in thought, I found myself absentmindedly fiddling with the ring on my middle finger. My beta leaned over, whispering my name to call me back to reality. I slowly looked up at the six elders representing the six territories in the werewolf realm. News of my Luna regaining consciousness after six years in a coma had spread like wildfire, and the elders had arrived to share their thoughts.
We were in the grandiose meeting hall, and I sat on the head of the table while staring at the empty table, awaiting their words.
" Congratulations, Alpha Kade. We heard the news about the Luna regaining consciousness " Elder Cassius said to me. He is the elder, representing the Alpha tribe which makes him my uncle. Then Elder Thorne asked, him representing the Beta's Tribe.
" Alpha Kade ... Can I ask when the rituals will begin for the Luna to be crowned? "
This question wasn't supposed to be sudden for me, but immediately I heard it, Majesty moved inside of me.
Slowly, I look up at Elder Thorn, aiming to respond, but Elder Magnus beat me up to it, his eyes a bit accusive.
" I do not understand why you would ask such a question, Elder Thorne. Didn't you know she is a human? "
Silence suddenly fell at his question and it was accompanied by Majesty's low growl. Elder Magnus represents the rogue tribe, and he would have been my father-in-law, assuming I haven't found my true Luna yet.
His daughter has been crazily in love with me. She would have been my chosen mate but the moon goddess had provided my true love. Probably, the reality didn't sit well with him.
I fixed my eyes on Elder Magnus and what he had said.
" What if she is a human? " The question came from me, dangerously calm and I felt Majesty moving again, angry just as I am.
The elders all pulled away, recognizing the spark in my eyes, but Elder Magnus felt he was right.
" She is a human. A weak one at that. A dead woman in her region. That's an insult to the throne itself as well as the Moonstone peak. She shouldn't be accepted as our Luna. She lacks everything to be called the Luna Queen! "
I froze completely. Everyone was surprised at the audacity of the man who had spoken his mind. It took a long time. I didn't move, not blink. Everyone waited for my response, but then, the bustle came through, and the door to the meeting hall was open wide, my Luna and the maids struggling.
Their presence caused a distraction to the tense atmosphere in the meeting room and somehow, at the sight of my woman, I relaxed.
She is still in her robe, beautiful as always, but her face is strained when she looks around and then stops to gaze at me with urgency.
Majesty gave a low growl within me. Our Mate is here, and she seems to be desperate for my attention. Without any words, I straightened up to my feet and then walked up to her, surprised that she had stepped out of her room in the first place.
I reached out, My fingers wrapped around her elbow, cradling it with a gentle touch.
" You weren't supposed to be walking around, " I whispered, my voice low and husky.
Nyx's gaze darted to mine, her eyes searching. The desperation in her pupils made me feel a pang in my chest, my heart skipping a beat.
Casually, My eyes dropped to her feet, bare and vulnerable. At this, A spark of anger ignited within me, and I turned to face the maids.
They bowed, trembling, before I even spoke.
" She was too fast, Alpha Kade. We tried to hold her down, " One of them stammered.
I wanted to scold them right there and then but I felt my woman's palm covering my arm. It was a gesture I had never expected.
Slowly I turn to her, forgetting completely that I was mad earlier. Her gaze softened me, and I left my maids to attend to her. Carefully, I drop my eyes on my palm covering my arm, and I pull it down to give it a soft squeeze.
" Yes? " I asked quietly and she sighed wearily.
" I want to speak with you "
Her request was desperate and I felt her emotions. Gazing at her eyes felt like a great purpose, and I was lost in it for many minutes until Elder Magnus made a disgusting groan as if disturbed by the sight of my Luna.
" I guess this meeting won't continue since his Luna has arrived, right? " He asked almost angrily and I felt irritated.
Slowly, I gave my beta a look, and he understood me immediately.
" The meeting will continue when the Alpha King said it to be ", Axel announced. A few seconds later, I heard the elders getting up to evacuate the meeting room, but Elder Magnus took his time before walking out.
At last, after everyone had left, leaving my beta, the maids and my Luna with me, I turned my attention to her, wondering what she had to say so urgently.
I heard the maids move backwards, giving us privacy, while Axel stood like an unwavering pillar of strength steps away.
" I... I have to go back " She mutters under her breath, her eyes fixed on mine as though scared she would hurt me.
" Go back ... Where? " I asked my Luna, my heart racing in anticipation.
I was stunned at how scared the woman here could make me. Why did she want to leave my kingdom?
" To my family " Her response came tearing my heart just as she pulled away from me. " Everything is strange to me here. I can't be your Luna and ... My family needs me "
My heart sank at this rejection in broad daylight. Majesty in me cowered in sadness and I went speechless.
It is a confession I have never expected. Slowly I pulled back, my heart aching.
" You should rest " The word fell from my lips in a whisper before I walked away from her. I headed towards the peak where the moonstone rose. That is the King's quarter. A sacred place that no one dared step into except those who held the covenant of the moon goddess herself.
Immediately after I stepped into my bedroom, I rushed over to sweep off the bottles of alcohol on the bar counter, and then I watched it shatter right at my feet.
" Alpha Kade, you have to calm down ... " Axel was saying after me but I rushed over to him, my speed stunning him as I held his collar.
" If your mate just rejected you without even proposing you do not calm down. Understood! "
His response was a feeble nod and then I released him to walk over the couch where I flop on.
Seconds later I buried my face in the hollow of my palm as I tried to calm Majesty.
" I have waited a lifetime for her, Axel. Every second of my life revolves around her. What can I do? What did I do wrong? Was it a sin I was born as royalty? "
Axel didn't give his response, and when I looked up at him, he bowed his head, unable to keep his gaze with my blazing eyes.
" She mentioned her family needs her. But she was dead in her region "
" Maybe she is not aware, Alpha Kade and we can't be too curious about the humans and their problems. It's the law from the Moon goddess," Axel mutters quietly, but I wave his words away with mine.
" The moon goddess should have thought of that before giving me a human mate " I sighed now to calm my nerves as I gave an order. " Have the maids prepared a dinner. I will join in later with my woman "
