The Return Of A Great Luna

5 - Nyx -

The Royal dining hall was more stunning than I expected. The tables were set with fine linens, crystal, and ornate chairs. What surprised me was how they acted human-like, with the chef and maids setting the table, and the savoury aromas from the kitchen. Even the werewolves' meals were identical to ours.

Earlier today I have squashed the little hope I have seen in Kade's eyes. I would hate to give him and his people false hope. The title Luna is never mine and the duty that was expected from her is never my responsibility.

Six years have passed by with me in a coma, and I couldn't wait to make a return back to the human region. Casimiro and my father dominated my heart. I wonder if truly my stepmother has been truthful to her words.

She had vowed to abandon Casimiro, my younger brother, in an asylum home while leaving my father in an Eldercare home.

All these thoughts were brewing up in my mind when the first beautiful maid came towards me, her head bowed in deep respect.

" Luna, you should eat your dinner. Alpha Kade would get mad if you didn't, " She whispered, almost pleading, and I smiled.

" Please, call me Nyx and do not worry. I will wait for Kade before taking any meals "

My response seemed to shock them, but then I realized it must be how polite I have been.

Time soon dragged on, filling me with growing anxiety. It seemed like Kade was intentionally keeping me waiting. I found myself fixated on the corner, willing him to appear. Just as desperation began to set in, I heard the sound of approaching footsteps. Kade emerged, dressed in a black overall, his boots making a muted thud on the floor as he approached the table.

I saw all the maids and guards bowing to him, but he ignored them all to settle down right across me. A man I have noticed stood behind him, always with him like a leech. Without being told I know it is his Beta. A gorgeous man with a very serious face.

" You didn't take any of your meals ", Kade's voice came through, slicing through the tense silence that fell after his entrance, and I pulled back to reality as I settled my eyes on him.

The few hours I have spent after being made me know a few of his personalities. He rarely speaks and he is very strict.

" I was waiting for you ", I responded to him, expecting a reply but he didn't give one. Not right away. Instead, he stared at me hard. His gaze almost was mysterious, and then he responded.

" Thank you "

His response steered something in me. Something I have never expected. Was it my heart or something much more?

" I should be the one thanking you for saving me six years ago at the sea. I would have died, " I replied quietly, and he shook his head.

" You wouldn't have died. I won't let that happen. Ever "

His response shows his determination as well as possessiveness, which makes me withdraw. He seemed to know about my feelings because he asked.

" You are dead in the human region. Why do you still want to return? "

My heart sank at his words. My eyes flew wide open in awe.

" How do you know? What do you mean? "

He didn't respond. Instead, he continues to gaze at me in silence, and that only makes panic kick inside of me.

" No. I'm not dead in my world. Lyrien won't... " I stopped at that point when it suddenly dawned on me. Lyrien, who had conspired with my step-family, my uncle, will surely register me as a dead person.

Tears clouded my eyes in no time. The thought of how my father and brother have reacted to the news is heart-wrenching.

" I Can't believe they did that, " I whisper sorrowfully.

Then I felt the urge to go down there and tear them all apart. While feeling miserable, Kade's movement caught my attention.

He stood up from where he sat and walked up to take the seat beside me. When he lowered himself on the chair, my eyes followed his graceful movement. He is the true king and his posture tells loudly about it.

Kade sat down before me and reached to take my hands. His feelings were evident in his hazel eyes. I expected him to talk me out of leaving, but the man right before me stunned me completely.

" Do you have a plan? "

" Wh...what? "

" Jewel Empire belongs to you, right? "

I was amazed at the debt of his knowledge about me. Then it dawned on me that he had only been taking care of me all these years. He had also found my roots.

" Jewel Empire belong to my father. The company is his life. His legacy but... " Tears of bitterness choked my throat as I paused to steady my emotions. " I trusted much. I love too much and that too much has hurt me too much "

" Let me help you " Kade suddenly said, his weight of words making my heart skip a beat. " You are my Luna. Let me help you regain back what you have lost "

I searched his eyes for many minutes before I pulled back, my determination unwavering.

" I can't give you what you want. I can't give you my heart. I'm sorry, " I whisper, rejecting him for the second time.

I almost could feel how hurt he was; I expected him to walk away as he had done earlier, but no. He didn't. Instead, he nodded to me, capturing my heart with his gaze.

" I don't know the full story. All I know is that you have suffered and are heartbroken... But can you give me a chance ... "

" Kade ... "

" I beg of you, please, " Kade's voice laced with desperation as he pleaded. His subjects watched in stunned silence. " You will have complete control. I will chase after you for as long as you desire, just give me one chance to prove myself worthy of you and your heart. I promise you won't regret it. Return to your world not as just anybody, but as my Luna, my great Luna. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. "

It was a plea from the man seated in the highest position of power in the werewolf realm.

He was a man worthy of greatness, deserving of so much more than someone like me. Yet, his eyes shone with pure love and affection, a sentiment I didn't feel I was ready for.

I couldn't help but wonder why fate had bound me to him, the Alpha King of all people. Would seeking revenge be possible if I were to return as his great Luna?
