She was fast and strong, but I was faster and stronger. I had the upper hand, and I was ready to finish her off. But then she said something that stopped me in my tracks. She said she had a reason for betraying me, and that the organization was not what it seemed. She said there was a bigger plot behind it, a plot that involved the government, the military, and the underworld. She said she was trying to protect me, to save me from a worse fate. She said she was sorry, and that she still cared for me. I didn't know what to believe. I felt a surge of anger and pain, but also a flicker of doubt and curiosity. Was she telling the truth, or was she lying? Did she really have a reason, or was she just making excuses? Did she really care for me, or was she just manipulating me? I looked into her eyes, and I saw fear and desperation. But I also saw something else, something that reminded me of the past. Something that made me hesitate. I decided to spare her life, and to escape. I didn't know if I could trust her, or if I could forgive her. But I knew I had to find out more about the conspiracy, and what it meant for me. I knew I had to make my own choice, and face the consequences. I left her behind, and ran away. But I knew this was not the end. It was only the beginning. Zen PoV I came back to the organization, wounded and bleeding. I had lost my left arm in the fight with Ace.. She had spared my life, but she had taken my limb. I knew I was in trouble, but I didn't care. I had nothing left to lose. The head of the organization was waiting for me. He looked at me with disgust and anger. He asked me how I could let myself be injured by my target. A mere 18 years old skinny girl. He asked me if I had lost my skills and judgment. He mocked me and called me useless. He pointed his gun at my head and said he would kill me.I didn't flinch or beg. I closed my eyes and waited for the bullet. I was ready to die, to end this nightmare. I had betrayed Ace , but I had also betrayed myself. I had followed the orders of the organization, but I had also followed my conscience. I had tried to protect her, but I had also tried to expose the truth.I heard him pull the trigger, but I didn't feel any pain. I opened my eyes and saw him staring at me with surprise and admiration. He said he would spare me for a while, because he liked my courage and defiance. He said he would give me another chance, but he warned me not to disappoint him again.I nodded and thanked him, but I knew he was lying. He didn't spare me because he liked me, he spared me because he feared me. He feared what I knew, what I could do, what I could reveal. He feared that I would join forces with Ace and bring down his empire. He spared me for a while, but I knew it was only a matter of time before he would try to kill me again. And I knew I would be ready for him. I'm Zen and I raised her since she was a child. I found her in the streets, hungry and scared. I saw potential in her, a talent that I could use. I took her in and trained her to be an assassin. I taught her how to fight, how to kill, how to survive. But I didn't teach her how to live, how to love, how to be happy. I was too harsh on her, too cold, too distant. I had to be, or else she would die in this cruel world. I had to make her strong, but I also made her lonely.I felt sorry for her, but I never showed it. I treated her like a tool, not like a person. I ignored her feelings, her needs, her dreams. I didn't care about her, or so I told myself. But deep down, I did care. I cared more than I wanted to admit. She was obedient and innocent, despite everything she had been through. She trusted me and respected me, despite everything I had done to her. She was like a daughter to me, but I never acted like a mother to her.I regretted it, but I never apologized. I loved her, but I never said it.
