The light from the lamp cast shadows on the dark wood furniture as he leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled together in thought. The faint sound of heels clicking against the floor made him glance up just as Cara swept into the room, her expression smug. “Well?” he asked, setting the papers aside. “How did it go?” Cara flopped into the chair across from him, crossing her legs and tossing her hair back dramatically. “She’s gone.
