As Cara got into her car, she felt her phone
buzzing in her bag. She pulled it out to see a string of missed calls from Nick.
Panic hit her as she realized she had completely forgotten about their dinner plans.
The invitation she’d received earlier had thrown her off track, and she hadn’t even noticed the time slipping by.
Sighing, Cara quickly dialed Nick’s number. The call connected, and his furious voice came through the speaker.
“Cara! Where the hell have you been?” Nick’s voice was sharp, the frustration clear in every word. “I’ve been waiting for you at the restaurant for over an hour! What’s going on?”
Cara winced at his tone. “I’m so sorry, Nick. I completely lost track of time. Something came up… I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”
