I was super excited that Candi was so happy about my surprise. I had been shocked when Dad told me he'd been setting aside wages for Candi for years. He explained that, because she had been a minor at the time, Gamma Richard and Kelly could've taken the money from her and nobody could've stopped them. So he held onto it until she was of age and was planning on giving it to her soon. I asked him why he didn't give it to her on her 18th birthday, and he said because he didn't want her to think it was a gift. It was important to him - and to me - that she understood this was her money, that she'd earned it.
Candi asked me what all she would need in order to open a bank account, and I told her she would need a picture ID, and her Social Security card. She looked a little panick
