Janine held and patted my hand as we walked from the fifth floor down to the third floor. When we got to the door of the gamma suite, we paused.
"Are you ready?" she asked me softly. "We can do this another time, you know."
I shook my head. "If I don't do this now, I'll lose my nerve," I told her. "I just need to do this and get it over with."
She nodded. "I understand," she told me, and I really felt like she did. "Well, let's do this then." With that, she raised her fist and knocked on the door.
