After Dad had Candi's documents safely locked in the family safe, I settled myself in the chair in front of his desk.
"So," he began, "what did she have to say about not having a father named on her birth certificate?"
"She was confused," I replied. "I had to try to play it off like I didn't know anything. I don't like not being totally honest with her, Dad."
"I know, son," he replied. "Mates are meant to be honest with each other, and it goes against our nature to keep things from each other. It's not - hold on." He held up one finger, and his eyes glazed over. I knew that someone was mind linking him. After a couple minutes, he refocused on me. "Well, it looks like you won't have to keep it from her much longer. Your mom is going with her to talk to Kelly."
