RIVAL
ASHINA
“And what do you think is the reason why I and Charles produce mate attraction too, Jenella?” I asked her intently. Staring at her face to read her evil thoughts.
Now I've realised that all the silliness I did to pursue my love with Charles before was because of the scent that produced mate attraction with him. Staring at Jenella, I knew she was the culprit why it had happened before.
Yes, precisely…. Jenella and Charles are those who beguiled me. They are the people behind my death. They killed my father and Garth as well. I know, but I need evidence more than anything else to make them punished.
“But it's you who told me that before.” Jenella smiled. “Don't you remember? You told me that you can't believe you smell the same scent of mate attraction with Alpha Garth since you already smell that with Charles.”
I didn't react. I played like Jenella could fool me again. She smiled as she tried to look very patient with me. She's smiling concernedly at me. But not this time…I don't buy her act of kindness. Not anymore, not ever!
“I realised I was mistaken,” I said, “I know someone is tricking me. I believe Charles did some vileness for me to fall into his trap.” I am feeding some accusations to Charles for Jenella to be provoked.
“No!” Jenella frantically said that.
I hid my smile. Jenella's very transparent.
“Ah- I mean…” Jenella paused. She was evidently looking for some reasoning or maybe waiting for her wolf to dictate some explanations she needed.
“You mean what?”
“Uhm, I am thinking of when you said that…that's your wolf's mate attraction for Garth is the same as what you have for Charles. Don't you realise that it was Garth doing evil all this time? He might be- no! Not might… I am sure Garth is clearly using some potion to mislead you!”
I stared at her blankly. I suppressed my sneer. This b***h is making herself more fooled than ever.
“Like what happened today,” Jenella continued. She must think that I believe her because of my silence. “You are all set to elope with Charles but became reluctant and told uncles that you wanna marry Garth immediately. You don't think you might be under the spell of some evil works, do you?”
“Really? Am I ?” I represented my smirk. I wanna laugh, actually. She is now giving me answers on what she and Charles did to me; they used a spell to deceive me.
“I think you are.” Jenella smiled worriedly at me. All act on her face.
“Do you really speculate it's the other way around?” I played dumb again with my troubled tone. I saw Jenella smile wickedly before it became a sweet and understanding one while nodding at me.
“Of course, it was Alpha Garth deceiving you!” Jenella tilted her chin confidently while looking at me. She's an i***t for thinking she could make me believe her. “We have known Charles since we were young. He is a caring and loving one. He adored you so much that I know he cannot do bad things to hurt you.”
“And Garth? You are sure he is despicable, aren't you?”
Jenella rolled her eyes. “Who knows what's on Alpha Garth's nasty mind?”
“Nasty? How positive are you that he is the nasty one?”
“Oh, Ash! Haven't you noticed how he glanced at you every time we saw him? And I told you before that some of his pack members are exposing how cruel he is. A ruthless alpha. A bad werewolf. A tyrant leader. That is why no she-wolf from his pack wanted him. No one wants to have a sadist to be with.”
“Sadist?”
“Yes. Some she-wolves from their pack talked about their Alpha Garth. I heard them articulating horrible things their alpha did, which made me suggest that you should elope with Charles before the blood moon ceremony started. We know that the blood moon will come any time now. I don't want you to suffer.”
I glanced at the grandfather's clock on the corner of our house. It is already five in the afternoon. The blood moon may appear in a few hours, and if Garth rejects me in the ceremony, that will weaken him and me.
No! That rejection must not happen!
I won't need to wait for the blood moon to appear tonight without me there, no rejection will occur. Yeah, that's right! I won't be there, so Garth has no chance of rejecting me.
‘Oh, Moon Goddess… Help me again. Please don't make the blood moon appear tonight. Please postpone the inevitable. I still need time to convince Garth!
Praying silently to the moon goddess Jenella thought she had persuaded me. Okay, let her feel that way. I can find evidence if I let her not be wary about my plan. Change of tactics this time. Since Garth didn't mark me, I must first find ways for Jenella and Charles to enter my entrapment.
I'll make them believe first that they are playing with my feelings. I will make them think that. And this game of misleading that they started, I will end it with the misery they both deserve.
“Yeah…” I said as I pretended that she was deceiving me once more. I saw Jenella smile viciously. “But come to think of it, Jenella…” I paused and smiled. Let me start the play with her. “I have an idea.”
“About what?” Jenella asked curiously with a crease on her forehead.
“Since you said that Charles is so good that he cannot do bad things to me… then-”
“Yes, Charles can't!” Jenella excitedly agreed. “Only Garth can do that vileness. And I also learned that Garth has a cult under his rule.”
“Cult?”
“Yes, cult. And that made me afraid that Garth might want you an offering because that cult could make him powerful once they offer a human virgin for their demon god.”
Wow! Nice one…. Janella is feeding me with information more and more. Now the possibility of her joining a cult added to what I ought to uncover.
“Those bad traits of Garth and the cult thing I heard… I hope you can see what might happen to you if you still choose him to fight the mate attraction you have for Garth. It was a fake scent only. Think of Charles and how he loved you. Think how ideal you are together.”
“Charles is so fine and devoted….” I whispered the words to sound dramatic and foolish.
“Yes, he is.” Jenella's eyes brightened.
“And you are the most lovable sister I have, right?”
“I do. And I will do everything to make you happy, Ash.”
I tried not to show my contempt by hearing her call me ‘Ash’ again. Before, her sweet way of calling me by my nickname made me believe how lucky I had her as my older sister. Now I am back for my second life. That way, her calling me ‘Ash’ made me feel sick.
“Charles is so kind, and so you are, Jenella…” I smiled after saying that. “Then I realised that you two could be perfect for one another. Am I right, old sister?”
Jenella's eyes glinted with some hostility she felt after I said that. She could not contain her disdain for me as she pitched her chin and breathed in annoyingly. She was breathing heavily to control her emotions. Trying to be pleasant still. But this is my chance to irritate her more….
“Why are you saying that?” She asked with anxiousness.
“Look at you, noticing all Charlie's good qualities. You have a perfect observation because you like him, a’right? And that made me realise that I may be the one meddling with your romance.”
“Are you… are you jealous of me, Ash?” Jenella asked in her delicate and thoughtful voice. Teary-eyed, she stared at me. “I am sorry, sister if that's what you feel but… but if you think I like your beau, I don't. I was simply worrying for the two of you. That's why I told you how exemplary he is.”
My left brow c****d up, and I sighed boringly.
“ I meant, Jenella. As you said, Charles is the kindhearted werewolf you know, and for me… you are the kindest she-wolf in our pack. I think you belong to each other perfectly. And don't worry, I have no ill feeling towards that.”
“That ….. that is so heartbreaking…”
I wanna laugh at her sad act.
“I can't believe to hear those words from you, Ashina. I never…I never thought you would think of me as your….rival.”
“Rival?!” I sneered. “You think you are on my level to become my rival? Wow!!! Dream on, Jenella!”
