POV: Zoey
“I have a few business to take care of before the party. Would you like to come with me?” He asks me, smiling as he kissed my lips.
“I think I’ll stay back here and take care of a few things myself. I’ll need to get my bags from the honeymoon suite and also get my brother’s things.” I responded. His smile faded when I said that, it’s obvious that he doesn’t want me going there for any reason whatsoever.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea to show your face there just yet. They may try to hurt you,” he let out in concern.
“I have some valuable gifts from my mom that I always carry with me everywhere. It’s a box of expensive gold jewelleries and I need it back before my cousin finds them.” I told him. Jane doesn’t know where they are, she thinks I left them at home before the wedding. I would never leave my jewelry box so carelessly. And now more than ever, I’m so glad that I carried it everywhere. I mean, how else would I have gained access to the house that now belongs to Donald?
“I still don’t like this, I don’t want you going there alone!” he repeated sternly.
“If it makes you feel better, you can send some guards with me to protect me. I’m sure they won’t try anything stupid with me because I’m the only one that knows where my brother is hiding. And right now, it’s his shares of the family business that they are after.” I told him firmly.
Seeing that my mind is made up, he sent some guards to go with me to retrieve my things from the honeymoon suite that was supposed to belong to Donald and I. As I walked towards the suite, I kept recalling the mean words they had both said to me before pushing me out the window to my death. I feel nauseous each time I think about the fall and how I thought I was going to hit ground any second and die.
“You can wait out here, I’ll be right out.” I instructed the guards as I retrieved my key card from my purse and opened the door.
“I’m sorry ma’am , but we have to come in with you and make sure you don’t get hurt. That is our instruction.”
They wouldn’t let me go in alone, so I just decided to let them do their jobs without interfering. The moment I opened the door, there was a loud thud coming from the bedroom and I walked towards the bedroom only to find Jane running towards the bathroom to hide while Donald sat up on the bed, pretending to be pressing his phone.
“Oh, my God, Zoey!
Where the hell have you been?
I have been up all night searching for you and Jason. What happened to you, my love, where did you leave me to on our wedding night?” he asked, pretending to be sad and worried about me. He has always been this way, acting so stressed and lonely each time I am not with him. I’d always admired how much he missed me in my absence. But now that I think about it, I realise that I have been such a big fool, a f*****g i***t.
“You can come out from the bathroom now, Jane, I already know everything about you two.” I let out sternly, ignoring Donald as I went about my business, gathering my things together.
“W... W... What are you talking about, my love?
Jane had to sleep here because it was too late to leave and we didn’t want to stop searching for you and your brother. You should apologise and thank her for being here all night, waiting for your return.” He let out firmly, sounding offended.
“I guess having your d**k in her cunt is your way of searching for us huh?” I asked him, making him gasp in shock at my choice of words. I laughed at the silly look on his face, smirking evilly as I approached his side of the bed, looking into his eyes.
“I know everything, Don, so there is no need lying to my face anymore. You two have been f*****g behind me, and you got married to me so you could get your hand on my properties and then kill me. I was a fool for love, Donald, I truly loved you and I would have done anything just for you.
But not anymore!
You are not getting your hands on Jason’s shares and I will take you to court and get back my house and company from you. The only reason I’d signed them to you was because we were married and you were my husband. But since you cheated on me, I can take back everything in court after I divorce you!” I told him fiercely, looking right into his eyes, letting every word sink in.
For a brief second, he became thoughtful and lost in his thoughts. I realised that he never thought of this outcome and so he never made plans for this. But, just when I thought that he was going to break under my stern gaze, I heard a sharp tone from my back that had us both turning in her direction.
“Go to court with this, Zee, I f*****g dare you.” Jane lets out mockingly as she stepped out of the bathroom in her lingerie, looking so hot and sexy.
“Let’s see how you plan to prove all of this in court when you have no proof.” She lets out teasingly, laughing at her own joke. It seems Donald was beginning to understand what she is talking about because he had that knowing look on his face as he smirked evilly at me, pulling her in for a kiss.
“That’s right, my love. The marriage never happened, it was all staged to get you to sign over the company to me. So there is no way you can prove that the company was your wedding present to me when there is no wedding to begin with.” He told me, laughing hysterically.
“No... No... B... B... But I was there, I signed the wedding register, I signed it in front of everyone. I was there and so were you. If you deny our wedding, if you made it look like fake, I will show pictures of us together to prove that we had a wedding. You conned me, you are a con artist!” I let out furiously, hating the smiles on the faces.
“You mean the pictures you took at our wedding yesterday, or the register where you signed as our witness in marriage?” my cousin asked me as she laughed at my stupidity.
“I’ve always told you to stop taking alcohol, Zee, I always warned you about it, didn’t I?” she smirked.
“My husband bought the company from you at a fair price and you saw it fit to sign and hand over the documents to him on our wedding night. Now how is that a crime, Zee, you tell me!” she urged me, sounding so mean.
“We have proof of payment and our marriage certificate as evidence. What do you have, Zoey. What evidence are you bringing to court?” she asked me, smiling at me.
“You will pay for this, Jane. If you two think you will rob Mr of my inheritance and get away with it, then you need to think again!” I let out boldly, turning to continue packing.
“Who are these thugs, Zee?” she asked mockingly.
“Do they know that you have no money to pay for their services?” she added amidst laughter, laughing hysterically at me.
“Don’t worry love, when I get a contract from Dorchester group of company tonight, I will spare you a few change for your upkeep.” Donald lets out mockingly, laughing along with her.
“No, you won’t!” Jane let out warningly, glaring at him.
“She was very generous with her inheritance, and that is why she lost everything. I won’t be generous and stupid like her. She won’t get a dime of our money. It’s ours now, she can share with her brother until I find a way to rip him off too!” she lets out fiercely, staring right at me as if she wanted to kill me where I stand.
“Where is he, Zoey, where is Jason?” she asked, her eyes staring dangerously at me.
“What did we ever do to you, Jane?
We are family, we are from the same plate. I gave you everything you ever needed, I treated you better than my brother, I spent more money on you than I did for myself. And this is how you choose to pay me back?” I asked her, tears flooding my eyes.
“It was your choice to be stupid and generous, I never forced you.” She responded boldly, glaring daggers at me.
“It will get a cold day in hell before I let you get to Jason. And don’t you celebrate your victory too soon because I am coming to take back everything that was stolen from me.” I told her, turning to walk away while the guards brought my bags that I’d already arranged. I heard their laughter as I walked away, but I didn’t let it get to me. If anything, it gives me the courage and strength to fight for everything they stole from me.
