Sickness

So his treatment was finished, and the day of the anniversary ball finally arrived. All of Berlun's citizens were busy preparing for the ball. The Therese Institute of Engineering was closed during this time, but thankfully, the helicopter is almost finished and will be able to fly within the next two weeks. The plan on testing the helicopter has always been moved due to a variety of reasons such as the swashplate, body deformation, probably the metal used was weak, the main and tail rotor wasn’t properly calibrated, et cetera. This was their first time working on a helicopter so those errors are easily understandable. … Eisenberg Residence. “Honey, how’s this? Is this okay?” “You look good in everything you wear.” “Don’t be like that and be more specific.” “Ahem, it’s really all okay. I don’t get what you mean by choosing.” “You’re only saying that because you can’t be bothered! Quickly, look.” “Y-You really look pretty.” Even her mother, who wasn’t usually interested in balls, prepared excitedly. Catarina warmly smiled looking at them. Their relationship had always been sweet. ‘I’ll protect her this time.’ In her last life, her mother had died from a disease. But this time, that wasn’t going to happen. Because she was here! ‘It’s not time for the illness to show up yet. I won’t miss it.’ She thought of her past. It was a few years later until her mother would become sick. “Cathy, aren’t you getting ready?” “I’m ready. I’m going to wear the dress I got last time.” “Really?” Albert tilted his head. His sister always ran around the house in excitement when there was a ball coming up. But she looked like she didn’t care. In reality, she didn’t care. She didn’t even want to go. ‘Nothing good happened at balls anyway.’ The anniversary in her past life was horrendous. Because her engagement with the Crown Prince was announced. And there was another reason why she didn’t want to go. ‘I have to study.’ The test was two weeks after the ball. She had the knowledge of the past, but she still had to study. ‘I have to study about the differences between here and Earth. I might be marked wrong if I reply like I would on Earth.’ She wanted to study, but she didn’t have enough time. ‘I’ll come back after showing my face and study at home.’ “Cathy, what are you thinking about?” “N…Nothing.” “Hm?” Albert looked closely at her. “You seem a bit pale, are you okay?” And he touched her forehead. “Hm? I think you have a fever?” “???” Catarina tilted her head. She had a fever? “It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.” “No, really. Your face is pale! It’s nice to work hard, but aren’t you overworking yourself?” “No, I’m really okay.” Catarina firmly shook her head at Albert’s concern. “See. I’m fine.” “No. You should rest. Stop reading and go lie down in your bed.” And he forcefully flipped over the book Catarina was reading. “Brother, I’m fine. I’ll look at it just a bit more.” “No!” “Brother. Hm? It’s a request. Hm?” She hung on her brother’s arm and acted cutely, but Albert was firm. “Definitely not! Rest today. You already have a weak body, and what if you get sick?” She ended up being forced to her room. “I’m really okay…” “Good Cathy. I’ll take the book, so rest well today. Alright?” Albert smiled softly like cream and took all the books in her room. It was the attitude of Albert who got things done right and on time perfectly at the Bureau. Catarina sighed at her forced rest. ‘I did overwork myself.’ After she got home from her workplace, she studied until the morning when she got back home. It was a schedule that most men wouldn’t be able to swallow. It would be a lie if she said she wasn’t tired. She had been feeling dizzy since a few days ago as well. ‘But I did more when I was on Earth.’ There was a time when she worked straight for two days without eating a single meal. Not only her, but all the college students in America did that. ‘But I endured it well. Compared to Alexandra’s body, my body is definitely weaker now. She closed her eyes. ‘It’ll all be better if I sleep and wake up.’ She became worse. “Ah…” Catarina groaned when she opened her eyes. ‘Hurts…fever…’ Her entire body felt cold and warm. Her head hurt, and she was dizzy. ‘What is it? Common cold? URI?’ ‘Ah…I have to go to the ball today.’ She sighed. It was the first day of the ball. All high nobles in the capital had to attend no matter what. Then, there was a knock on her door and her brother came in. “Cathy! You woke up? Are you better now? You should get ready now.” Albert’s face hardened. He saw her face, pale and white. “Lissy?” “Ah…yes.” He was surprised after touching her forehead. It was scalding hot. “Oh no. Wait a moment here!” He rushed out, and Catarina laid herself down with a dreamy gaze. ‘Ow….’ Then, Albert came back with the family’s physician. Her father was with them. “Catarina!” Marquis Nix’s face hardened seeing Catarina. Catarina faintly smiled as if telling him not to worry. “I-I’m fine.” But she seemed even more sick doing that, and the Marquis became angry. ‘These Therese Engineering guys! Just how much did they work this child!! Just wait until after the ball! All your pay will be cut! And that Michael guy is definitely cut!’ He was a loved Marquis who was honored for noblesse oblige, but in front of his family, he became an intense man. “I’ll diagnose you real quick.” The physician approached Catarina. Catarina told him what she thought it was. “Based on the symptoms, I think it’s an upper respiratory infection (URI).” The physician blinked at what she said. It was the precisely correct medical term. “I’ll take a look at it.” And he tested her. Her fever was 38.7 degrees (Celsius). He nodded his head. “Yes, I think it’s a URI like you said.” “Is Cathy okay?” “Is Catarina okay?” Her father and her brother asked at the same time. The physician smiled at their worried faces. “Yes, a URI is like a cold so she’ll be better after rest. Because her fever is high, I’ll give her some medicine. Take it, and get well.” And the physician left. Seeing the medicine, Catarina realized they were painkillers and fever reducers. ‘I hope my fever doesn’t increase. Hopefully, I’ll get better.” Marquis Nix spoke in a hard tone. “Catarina.” “Yes?” “From now on, you’re forbidden from going to the facility.” “What?!” What was this suddenly? “You’re sick because you go to the place. How is a weak child going to become an engineer? I knew this would happen. It’s absolutely forbidden.” He completely forgot about how his daughter was complimented and expressed anger. “No, father. It’s because I studied too much. I didn’t overwork myself at the facility. I won’t be sick again.” “Anyways, you can’t!” Catarina frantically tried to calm her father down. “I won’t overwork myself in the future. Or be sick. So don’t be worried, father. Hm? Hm? Father, Dad, Hm?” She was barely able to calm her father down after acting cute. Her brother worriedly spoke from her side. “Can you go to the ball, Catarina?” “I have to.” “I think it’ll be too much…” “It’s fine. Even if I’m not well, I have to go.” It was the first day. And she wasn’t just any noble, but the lady of the greatest noble family in the empire. Unless she was bedridden after fainting, she couldn’t skip out on it. But her father firmly spoke. “You don’t have to go. Who would say anything? The daughter of mine, Marquis Nix, is sick.” “Father…” “I’ll take responsibility for whatever the Emperor says.” It was a statement of love and concern. Catarina smiled. It was a smile filled with happiness. ‘He only showed his strict side in the past.’ She didn’t experience this happiness in the past. All these moments were precious. Her father and brother had to do political things at the ball, but she didn’t have anything to do. In her past life, she was the center of the ball, but it wasn’t the same this time. She could just show her face and leave. Or at least that was what she thought. But…there was something Catarina didn’t know. That something would happen to her at the ball. Something that she wouldn’t have been able to imagine. What she would do was a major incident no one saw coming.
