Enzo POV
"Dude, it's been two weeks." Finn reminds me as I go over some transitional paperwork for Alpha James. We were able to use our resources and fight for his land back. All went well and we didn't lose any casualties this time. Don't get me wrong the other side definitely has some, but I don't want any more of my people dying because of this stupid war that no one remembers why we have in the first place.
"And?" I reply back to Finn. Tomas is in the room with us while Liam and Henrik are training the warriors. After we got Alpha James' land back, we were also able to recruit another pack in the process, so we are training them now.
"You're working them to death." I growl at him. "We held our own that day. We were able to kill more than two hundred of their wolves and still you are not satisfied."
"I will be satisfied when I have Adler and Will's head on a stick." I bark back.
"Or will you be satisfied when you find that girl?" Finn throws at me. I knew I shouldn't have told him anything.
"Don't." I warn him.
"Oh, please. I have never seen you so infatuated with a girl before. My stepsister, Mary, may think that night was about her, but I know you. You have no interest in Mary, you just need a f**k every now and then and you don't want to break all of the she-wolves hearts."
"Will you please-"
"No, look. I'm just saying. If you really want a human girl, we can go get one!" I roll my eyes at him.
"It's not about a human girl, it's about the human girl. And I don't even know, I just feel weird about it alright?"
"Are those chest pains coming back?" I nod to him.
"The first time I felt them was that first night we were here when I was with Mary." I explain to which he just irritatedly look up at nothing. "And the second time I was also with Mary.."
"Maybe it's one of those guilt things, like you know it's wrong but you do it anyways." He shrugs.
"Have you ever had those pains then?" I throw back at him. He has had his fair share of doing it, but he just gives me a smirk and shakes his head.
"All I'm saying is be careful with Mary. She's used to getting everything she wants."
"You bet your ass I do." Mary's voice rings out in my office. She then turns her vixen eyes towards me and widens a grin. Oh, f**k. "Hi, baby."
"Don't call me that." I bark at her.
"Yeah, seriously, it's desparate and gross." Lauren says as she comes in after Mary. Lauren is Finn's little sister, just a couple of years younger than us, as is Mary. Their birthdays are actually a month a part, but which drove them both insane while we were in high school. Their father, our Beta, died in a battle when Finn and I just started high school. Their mother remarried another lycan, but no title.
"Is it so gross that the Beta's daughter and Alpha get together?" Mary shoves her eyebrows to her forehead and smirks as she sits on my desk, but I slam a fist on my desk to get her off.
"You're not technically the Beta's daughter. You really need to stop calling yourself that. That title belongs to Lauren." Finn gestures Lauren to come closer. To say that they have never been close is an understatement. We used to hide from Mary when we were kids. But then, I turned 18 and I didn't find a mate for years, still haven't. It's been 7 years and it's been lonely.
Mary scoffs and then huffs away, pretend crying to see if I will follow her out. I don't. I never have. I never checked on her when she was throwing a fit. I made it very clear from the beginning she was just a f**k so I didn't rip apart someone's limbs when it all became a little much. War will do that to you I suppose.
"Did you really have to sleep with her?" Lauren rolls her eyes. "That's all she ever talks about now, telling others that she's going to be Luna because she's the only person you'll sleep with here."
"Yeah, not by choice, alright?" I tell them. Most of the other women in our pack are terrified of me. The only reason Mary isn't is because she knew me while I was growing up since Finn was over all the time. I would never sleep with Lauren, she's practically my little sister.
"Okay, then how about we go out tonight? We have to check up on Hotel Kings Court anyways." Tomas says. "Liam held down the fort while we were gone, but I hear Ronny might be a bit stressed out about being the manager." We all laugh about it. Ronny is great, but he is a perfectionist. A little thing wrong could quite literally tumble him over.
"And please, just sleep with someone else when we are there, anyone else." Lauren shudders in the thought. I shake my head at the idea.
"Let's never speak about my s*x life." I say to Lauren. Again, she's like my little sister. This conversation is just gross.
"If you don't sleep with someone else, I will come in here and talk about mine everyday." The boys oo over the idea. None of us want to hear about that.
"Oh, Goddess. Fine." I practically spit out in disgust. I then shoo them away. "We can leave in an hour." They all leave as I go through some of the finances for the hotel and casino.
Aurora POV
Grabbing a nice warm pastry out of the small oven in this little cafe right outside of Prague, I hand it to an elderly lady who gives me a tender smile.
"Have a nice day." I smile lightly at her as she returs a lovely smile of her own.
"Keep going, Ester." I hear Klara nag at me, a little aggressively, but it is what it is. Turning back to my next customer, I keep going and making the coffees and heating up pastries while Klara sits on the back counter, texting on her phone.
"You make a lovely cup of coffee, dear." The elderly lady returns to the front counter. "We will be back tomorrow." I give her a polite grin and wave her off.
"Move out of the way." Klara removes me from the front and then starts to hand me orders to make. I can tell she's a werewolf for sure, probably not lycan like a lot of the people around here. Thankfully, none of them really hedge in this direction.
I have been in Prague for about a week now. Klara practically jumped up in the air when I told her I didn't need to be paid the minimum wage, half under the table was more than appropriate for her. Not having to pay rent and only having to pay for gas and water, it's more than sufficient since I work every day and don't get any overtime pay.
"Hi, Ronny!" I hear Klara squeal at a lycan man that walks in. He seems kind of uptight, but his strong build and perfect skin are a dead giveaway, lycan.
"A triple shot expresso." He says quickly as he taps away on his iPad. Busy man. I make the triple shot expression as he and Klara make conversation, though it seems more one-sided than anything else.
"So, Ronny, what are you doing tonight?" Klara asks sweetly. Ronny is the last customer for the day since no one else is behind him and we are about to close, so I guess that's not too strange.
"Working a triple because a bunch of my bar servers called in sick." Ronny huffs out, upset about his current crisis. I quietly hand over his coffee cup and he takes a fat sip before looking astonished and then towards me.
"Well, if you want Ronny, I could come over and serve tonight. You are our last customer." Klara says as I gather all the dirty dishes to load into the dishwasher before heading to clean the coffee machines and wipe down the counters.
"You know what, that would be great. Do you think the both of you could come?" Ronny asks and I look around. There's no one else here except for Klara and me. Oh, no no no.
"Of course!" Klara says automatically.
"Actually, I'm headed home after the shift." I say politely. "But I hope you find someone." Ronny furrows his eyebrows.
"Oh, come on. Do me this favor." He asks again, only looking at me this time which angers Klara.
"I'm sorry." I shrug as I pull up the chairs to rest on the tables so I can sweep underneath. As he watches me do this, he continues to ponder the idea while Klara goes on and on about what she should wear there since they have such exclusive clientele.
"We have clothes there you can change into." Ronny says without taking his eyes off of me. Okay, it's starting to get a little weird. "What's your name again?" As I am about to answer, Klara beats me to it.
"She's nobody. Don't worry about it Ronny I can totally cover whatever you need me to. And I can do more than just-" Ronny cuts off whatever idea she had in mind.
"Actually, it would be great if I had the two of you come along to help." Ronny says, but I am not exactly interested in going to some casino and hotel to work. That's way too high profile. "C'mon. Don't make me beg." Ronny pouts and I give out a small laugh that irritates Klara.
"I don't know." I respond as I take off my apron. Everything has been cleaned out. Klara just needs to close out the register, but she doesn't need me to do that.
"Don't make me follow you home and beg on my knees for you to come help me out." Ronny gives out a big old chuckle that only makes me nervous. Follow me home? I'm sure he doesn't mean actually, but I can't exactly risk it. "Plus, my bosses are coming over tonight and they would kill me if they knew I was short tonight." Maybe he really is just that desperate enough to follow me home.
"She's going Ronny. Don't worry!" Klara answers for me and I just blink out in surprise.
"Uhm, how far is it?" I ask as I don't exactly want to be caught out in downtown, far from where I parked, in the middle of the night.
"20 minute drive into downtown."
"That's a bit far for me. I don't have a car." I try to get out of it.
"I drove here. It looks like you're done. Klara just needs to close out the register, right?"
"Yes!" Klara yells out enthusiastically.
"And then after?" I question. "Do you think you could just drop me back at the cafe?" I ask. Even if it's at the dead of night, the cafe is very walkable to where I parked. I grab my tote and fold my apron to put it neatly in there. Then, I grab my puffy coat to put on.
"Yes, yes!" Ronny answers quickly and excitedly. Suddenly, he grabs me by the wrist and starts luring me outside. "Klara you know where it is, see you there!"
"Wa-" She gets out, but Ronny and I are already outside. He opens up the passenger side and bows for my entrance. I nod politely and enter his very nice sports car. I guess he has a lot of money, running a hotel and casino and all.
"I'm sorry for doing this." He says abruptly and he lets out a huge breath of relief. "I can only take Klara in five minute increments." Oh. That's why he pulled me out of there so quickly.
"It's fine." I respond.
"I only go there because my mom is friends with her mom and begs me to go over there, otherwise I wouldn't." I just nod, not sure what to respond with as he is oversharing his personal life. Maybe that's just the way he is.
"How long do I have to be there?" I ask without much emotion in my voice.
"We will take care of you, I promise! If you need to stay the night, do so, but don't tell Klara that you are staying the night. Otherwise, she's going to insist on staying the night too."
"I won't be needing to stay the night." I tell him.
"That's fine, we can give you a ride back if you need one. Hopefully, we will be done around 2 AM. I know it's kind of late, but you look like a great worker. I saw you doing all the stuff for closing while Klara and I talked."
"2 AM?" I glance down at the clock to see that it's just before 4 PM. That's quite a long shift, I think to myself.
"Yeah, it's because the bosses are back in town. We'll get you some food before your shift starts. Anything you like to eat?" Ronny asks cheerfully.
"Anything is fine." I shrug. He pulls up to a tall rustic but beautiful building.
"Welcome to Hotel Kings Court!" Ronny announces as we get out of the car. Well, here we go.
