Chapter 8: On Chase

After hours, the guards, exhausted, have returned to the camp for some rest. They have successfully put out the fire without casualties. However, they have seen one strange thing, melted iron in the middle of the forest, still not hardened. They thought some leftover trash was melted, but others said it was something different.

When the guards went inside, they saw Akio was not there and the boy was missing. The young newbie guard was outside so the captain went to talk to him. He was annoyed. He wanted to rest but another trouble appeared. When captain walked up to him, newbie was worried and started sweating.

-Where did Akio and the boy go? – Asked the irritated captain

-I-I don't know s-sir! He s-said he was in trouble, got some f-food and ran away!

-WHY DIDN'T YOU STOP HIM! – Captain raised his tone – THE HIGHER-UPS WILL BE FURIOUS! – He calmed down when he saw how worried the young guard was – *Sigh* Do you at least know where he went? He was hurt, so he would not be able to go far.

-I d-don't know where he went s-sir! – Answered the scared guard in a shaking voice.

Captain went back to the camp. He called every one and they gathered around, discussing what they would tell the higher-ups:

-Akio has disappeared with the boy, right? – One guard asked

-Yes. We don't know where he went too. He was injured. But, why did he leave so suddenly? Most importantly, why did he take the boy? – Said captain and sat down, thinking about the situation.

-Didn't the boy possess fire magic? Can't this forest fire be his doing?

-Maybe, but it is unlikely. – Answered captain – He only possesses LVL 2 magic. He will not be able to create a fire on that scale; he would run out of MP and stamina.

-We can say that he was caught in the fire! – Confidently said one guard.

-We cannot let that boy go without letting to get know how he obtained these powers. He is too young to understand how magic works; nevertheless, he has it LVL 2. – Captain continued – I don't understand some things. Where did his parents go and where are the guards from Road 6? I haven't seen Mike either. Something must have happened out there and we need to figure it out.

They all agreed to keep this story to themselves and lie to the higher-ups, saying that they could not retrieve him.
