Chapter 7: Aftermath

The huge forest fire got the attention of the villagers and adventurers nearby. The people who possessed water magic rushed into the forest to extinguish the flames.

Akio was running away from the forest with the boy in his arms. He got to the main road and went to the camp with sleeping guards. There were burn marks all over his body. Akio woke them up. When the guards saw hurt Akio, they were panicked, thinking some monster attacked the road. However, they saw the anomaly boy and asked about him:

-Isn't that the boy we were searching for? What happened out there Akio! You are covered with burn marks! Did someone attack you? What happened to the other guards?

Akio was silent. He didn't speak a single word since he came. He looked traumatized. The guards noticed this.

-I see you retrieved the boy, good job. Nevertheless, answer me, where the others are and why are you hurt?

One guard looked out and saw the forest caught in a massive fire.

-GUYS, LOOK! THE FOREST IS BURNING OUTSIDE!

Guards rushed to see what was happening. They saw flames, reaching the night sky.

-WE NEED TO LEAVE NOW! –Said the guards captain- And you Akio, you have explaining to do! Someone stay with him, somethings fishy here.

When the guards got out, only one stayed. He was young and a newbie, so he did not know what to say. Akio didn't lose a second. He took food and tried to run away. Young guard tried to stop him:

-W-wait! Stop!

Akio responded in a scared voice.

-I am already in trouble. I don't want to get anyone involved in this. I have seen things no one should see.

The guard was still not letting him go. He pulled out a sword. Akio was startled at first, but saw that the newbie was shaking out of fear. He said goodbye and ran out of the camp. He took a cloak with him and covered Rekka with it.

It was messy outside. Adventurers ran into the forest, searching for survivors. The guards were evacuating people from the nearby villages. Akio sneaked in a nearby cart with villagers inside. One old woman asked him

-Are you okay dear? You look hurt. - She looked worried -  Were you caught in the fire? Let me tend your wounds.

Akio was hesitant at first, but he found out she was a nurse in the village who possessed LVL 2 healing magic. As she tended his wounds, she saw the sleeping boy in the cloak and said he was lovely. Akio got relieved. The old woman started to tell a story from her youth.

-When I was young, I was an adventurer. I was a healer in a party of five. Our party members averaged Tier 8, so we never took any dangerous quests. One time, we decided to take a 3 Star quest. We were taking 1 Star quests and could barely do 2 Stars, but we were young and did not realize the risks. There was a Threat 4 Wind element on the loose. The Adventurers guild warned us that it was dangerous, but we still took the task. When we arrived there, it attacked us by surprise. We desperately tried to kill it, but funny enough, we could not even reach the monster. It used LVL 4 wind magic and blew us away with strong wind. We tried fleeing, but it got two of my friends. I've quit the guild after that. It's a sad story, so I don't want to force it onto you.

She healed Akio and soon they got to the city of Tow. Akio was happy he got lucky. It is one of the main towns of the country and his relatives lived here. He thanked the old woman and said goodbye. 

-Goodbye sweetie. - The old woman waved her hand.

Akio went to his old home with Rekka, fearing what can happen.
