Chapter 5: The Fire For The Fuse

They couldn't find the family in Highfalls.

-Search every inch of this place! - Shouted the guard captain, but they failed.

They started thinking of the places Asahis could've travelled to. They warned the guards on the main road to watch around for a red-haired boy with red teeth. One of them suggested that they might travel to Oxwood, believing they would not pay much attention to the kid. Others agreed so they went on Road 6.

It started to brighten outside. The sun started to rise and shine. Villagers started to go in the fields and shops for work. There was a big river running in the village, hence the name Riverchrest. They were moving their fruits and vegetables in the main cities; it would sell better there. The Asahi family woke up too. They changed clothing ate some food, took their belongings to the cart and got ready for their next trip.

-I can't wait for the new city! - Said the mother. 

-There might be monsters there. - Giggled the father.

Rekka, while moving, saw some kids of his age playing with a ball with adults supervising. When he saw his parents were busy with moving the luggage, he ran to them with a big smile, showing his sharp and red canines.

Parents saw the weird kid running to them and they got scared. They thought it was a mad demi human so the mother screamed for help. The village's residents got startled and ran to them. Rekka got confused and tripped over, getting a bruise on his knee. His parents quickly rushed to him, took him in the cart, leaving some of their belongings inside. They did not want to get caught.

The word got out that a wild demi human tried to hurt the family. 

-It was a big monster! - Said one villager.

-A terrifying demon is on the loose! - Said another.

This got the guards attention and they started to inspect the village; they knew it was Rekka. Some of the guards thought that they might have stayed the night here so they went to the only hotel in the village. An old man was working there. They found out that he was in charge of the hotel and started questioning him.

-Did you notice a weird boy with red hair and teeth running around in the city?

The old man was startled; he thought he got in trouble for something. The guards calmed him down, saying that they were chasing down a family with a dangerous individual. The old man started to speak, still with a frail voice:

-Only two families stayed in this hotel tonight. O-one was a young couple on their honeymoon and the other were quite exhausted. They had a kid in a cloak with them, saying he had a cold. I let them stay in Room 7, but they left a couple o-of hours ago.

The guards went to the room to inspect it. They didn't find anything useful: some leftover food, clothes and toys. One of the guards looked under the drawer and found a map. The town of Oxwood was marked and Road 8 was lined. 

-They are taking the long route to avoid being caught! - Said one guard.

They ran out of the hotel, leaving it in a mess. They warned the other guards about them taking Road 8. Akio was worried, thinking others might have hurt the family and take their child away from them. He knew Rekka was a kind boy who wouldn't hurt anybody. They contacted the nearest adventurer to close Road 8. They got in touch with Mike. He was a Tier 7 adventurer.

He is 16 years old and 173 cm tall. He joined the Adventurers Guild when he was only 14, taking 1 Star quests. He got his name out with his young age and the skill to quickly kill his enemies. He used two daggers and had LVL 1 speed magic. He also could throw his daggers with great accuracy, so this task was like a walk in the park for him. He ran to Road 8 in just 2 hours, running almost twenty kilometers. He fought off some Threat 1-2 monsters and cut his arm a little, but he bandaged it and moved on. He was exhausted, so the guards there gave him some snacks and water. One of them asked him:

-What happened to you Mike? You look exhausted.

He answered while still catching his breath:

-The guards from Riverchrest sent me here with a message for you guys to close the road. A family with some anomaly should be heading to Oxwood in a cart so they need to stop them. - He stretched and yawned - I'm too tired for this.

The guards listened and closed the road the town. They were looking out for carts with families, stopping everyone to find the boy anomaly.

It started to get dark. Some guards from Riverchrest came, including Akio. The guards were sleepy and some of them even went to bed in the nearby camps, but Mike was awake and on a lookout for the kid. Suddenly he saw a cart with a family singing, but a red-haired boy in a cloak was singing with them. He exactly knew that the anomaly was him and alerted the guards. Akio was uneasy, so he suggested to follow the cart until the family found a place to rest. Mike disagreed but the guards thought it was the right choice.
