Chapter 3

“How do you feel about turning into a vampire?”

Mikael can’t believe what he heard. “What? Turn into a vampire,” he asked in case he heard wrong.

The doctor nod. “Yes, turn into a vampire,” he said without blinking. “It’s a long process but it is doable.”

Mikael just look at the doctor. He is still waiting for the doctor to laugh and what he said is all just a joke.

Seconds pass, then minutes. Still, the doctor’s face seems serious.

Is this man really a doctor? Or is he some crazy man that wandered into his room.

The doctor sighed, “You know what I’m talking about right? It only takes a True Vampire and you being bitten to reverse the infection from the rouge vampire’s bite. It’s a logi-.”

“It’s not logical!” Mikael interrupted. “Not logical at all! It’s forbidden!”

The doctor look at him confusedly but then turned into comprehension.

“Oh! Agent McGregor didn’t tell you about the program?”

Now it’s Mikael’s turn to be confuse. “Program? What program?”

The room’s door opened. Speak of the devil. Daniel entered talking to another doctor. As if talking about him, both of them stopped and look at him.

“Is that him?” the doctor with Daniel asked as both of them approached the bed.

“Yes, that’s agent Mikael Gray,” said and look at Mikael. “Mikael, this is Dr. Olivia Myers. She is the head of Research Department of Anti-Crime Division.”

Mikael look at the doctor. She looks like in her early 30’s. A bit too young to be a head department. But he guess he can’t judge a person’s ability by their appearance. The Anti-Crime Department is known to recruit people based on their abilities not by their age.

“It is a pleasure to meet you Agent Gray, I heard great things about you,” she said and offer to shake her hand while smiling.

Mikael shake her hand. She have smooth hands but a firm handshake. Definitely a strong personality behind the kind and sweet smile. What a dangerous combination.

“It’s also a pleasure to meet you, Doctor Myers. You must be disappointed that all those great things that you heard are false given my situation,” Mikael said to the doctor.

Doctor Myers just laugh on what he said. Then I look at Daniel. “Can you please tell me what Dr. Luther is talking about the program? What program? And what does it have to do on be being tuned into a vampire?”

Daniel look at Dr. Myers which in turned nod at him. Daniel sighed. “I’m supposed to discuse it to you after you wake up and our argument happened. I know you don’t gonna like it but it is the only way to save you.”

“What? Saving me by becoming a vampire?! You, most of the people here know how I despised them, and what? You want me to be like them?!” Mikael said angrily.

“But it is the only solution. You will be turned into a vampire either way. If you accept this offer you don’t have to turn into a vicious creatture and be shot dead. Do you think I want to kill my own team member? I can’t do that, I won’t do that again,” Daniel replied intensely.

Mikael gave up. “Okay, I will hear about this program.”

After that Dr. Myers discussed to him a program by the Anti-Crime Department. The goal of the program is to find solution to turn back the sanity of a human bitten by a rouge vampire. They still don’t kno how to turn a person into the original state as human but they found out that in early stage of infection, it can be undone by another bite from a vampire.

Shocked by what he heard, Mikael look at the people around him, “So, bascally I’m a guiny pig for this experiment. And this even legal? Turning a human into a vampire is against the treaty right?”

“This project is under approval of the treaty council members for a long time and finally it was approve just two months ago. We don’t intend to harm anyone. We intend to cure. But finding someone that just got bitten by a rouge vampire is hard until I was contacted by Dr. Luther last night and here we are. I hope you can help us Agent Gray,” Dr. Myers replied to im.

Mikael begun to think. The program is logical and it will really help those people that become victim of rouge vampires. He guess he have no other choice.

“Ok, I’m in. What do I have to do?”

Mikael look outside the car window and into the view. The car is currently driving up to a winding road. The road is surrounded by thick and tall trees. You can’t see anything between the trees but darkness.

Every time he look at the forest he feels like someone is looking back at him. He just shrugged that off. He think the place feel is so aerie that he is starting to imagine things. They are travelling almost a day now to just come to this place.

Mourning Mountain. Just the name of the place can give chills to anyone. This is where Silas Grave, one of the few remaining True Vampire, lives. Like other remaining true vampire, no ones knows how Silas Graves looks but based on the stories about them and how long they lived, he probably look like an old man.

The car continued its descend up to the road until it stoped outside a massive iron gate.

“This is the farthest I can go, Sir. You have to go inside alone. Dr. Myers told me that there’s someone that will guide you once you are inside,” the driver said.

Mikael exits the car. He still don’t know why he have to go alone.

After he accepted the offer of being turned, Dr. Myer discussed further that he have to go at a place where a True Vampire lives to start the process of being turned. And he need to go there alone.

He want to protest but she said that it was requested by the vampire. It seems that this person is very private. He asked the doctor what that said process is. He at least should know what to expect to happen to him but the doctor is tight lipped. She just said that the process will not bring harm to him. She also said that he personally know that vampire that will turn him. She just warned that Mikael just need to follow the vampire’s order while he remain at his place.

Mikael don’t know why a human like Dr. Myers know an ancient vampire or how that vampire can accept to participate in this experiment but he have a lot in his mind right now to think about it.

After the driver helped him to get his bags out of the trunk he started walking toward the gate. He already taken a few steps when the driver speaks, “Ah! Wait Mr. Gray. I almost forgot.”

Mikael look back where the car is and saw the driver took out something from the front seat. It is a box with a red ribbon on top of it. As the driver walk nearer to him, he recognized the box. It is a cake box from a known bakery near his place. What will he do to a cake?

“Dr. Myers also asked me to tell you that you should give this to Mr. Grave,” the driver said.

Mikael transferred the bag that he carrying to his left and take the box from the driver. This is really weird. What will a vampire do to a cake?

He started to walk toward the gate again and when he was near it the gate suddenly opened. It gave out a loud creak. He looked backed at the car and saw the driver enters the car and started to leave.

The gate open more as if signaling for him to enter already. He really can’t back out now.
