Rane Residence 7:30 AM Thursday "Not again.." Erina said as she look around her room. Her books and papers are scattered, her picture frames are cracked and some of her clothes are ripped to shreds. "Erina, dear! Are you awake?"A voice said at the other side of the door. It's Erina's Mother, Amarie Rane. "I'm awake,Mom."Erina said as she slowly get up from her bed. "Oh my, your room is a mess. Did it happen again?"Amarie said when she open the door. "Yes. It's getting frequent and scary."Erina said as she stood up and begin to arrange everything. "Oh, let me do the cleaning. It's 7:30 AM. You don't want to be late,right? Go downstairs and eat breakfast then take a bath. I'll bring your clothes in the spare room so you can change there while I clean your room."Amarie said before giving her daughter a hug. "Thank you so much,Mom."Erina said, returning the hug "Everything will get better, dear. Someday, you'll understand why you're having these accidents."Amarie said while gently patting Erina's back to somehow soothe her worry. "Soon, I hope. I can't replace everything that's broken every time it occurs. It really takes my mood and my energy away."Erina said, making her mother laugh "Well, time is running. Hurry now."Amarie said,releasing her daughter from the hug. Erina laugh before going downstairs to eat breakfast. ~~~~ Erina Rane is an 18 year old girl with Infantile Amnesia. She has no memories of her childhood and try as she might, not a single tiny bit of image pops in her mind. Whenever she ask her parents about it, they just give her vague answers and change the topic after a few minutes, so her childhood is a complete blank slate to her. Because of that, she became painfully shy around large groups of people. It's not so bad, though. She met a girl in middle school who became her best friend and stayed by her side ever since. ~~~~ "Good morning, Eri! How was your sleep?"Lui Rane, Erina's father said as he look up from the newspaper he's reading "Good morning,Dad. It was fine until I woke up and found my room in a mess."Erina said, as she sat down and reach for her mug of hot chocolate. "What a nice view in the morning if you ask me." "Is that so? Well, eat your food now. It'll make your mood lift up in a second. I know you can't resist Mom's cooking."Lui said with a chuckle before going back to reading his newspaper "I sure can't. Not when it looks so delicious."Erina said before picking up her utensils and starting to eat. ~~~~ "M..My name is.. E..Erina..R..Rane.."A 14 year old Erina said softly as she fiddle the strap of her bag "What's that? We can't hear you!"A student said "Um.. Uh.."Erina said, getting unsure and embarrassed. "Her name's Erina Rane. Everyone, please be nice to her. She's from Landley Academy."The teacher said "Oh really? She's from a prestigious only-girls school? Hard to tell. She's so meek." Another student said with a sneer "Anne, don't be so rude. Erina, you can sit beside Miracle. Miracle, raise your hand."The teacher said. A student with short black hair and brown hazelnut eyes raise her hand. Erina immediately make her way to her seat. "Now, let's start our lesson, shall we?Everyone, open your books on page 143. Miracle, can you please share your book with Erina for the time being?"The teacher said as she open her book and pick up a piece of chalk "Yes,Ma'am. Here you go,Erina."Miracle said with a smile as she gently push her book towards Erina "T..Thank you..Miracle.."Erina said in a soft voice ~~~~ "Good morning, Mr. Rane! I came here to pick Eri up!"Miracle said cheerfully as she stood by the door "Good morning to you too, Miracle. Eri's upstairs getting dressed. Come in and have a snack or two while you wait for her."Lui said "Okay. Sorry for the intrusion! I'm coming in."Miracle said as she enter the house and sit on the sofa while Lui close the door "Oh,Miracle! You're early! Erina, Miracle's here!"Amarie said as she climb down the stairs "Hello, Mrs. Rane. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you."Miracle said while Amarie laugh lightly. "What are you saying, deary? You're not bothering us at all! I told you, right? You are very welcome here!"Amarie said as she put a glass of juice and a tray of cookies on the coffee table. "Here, help yourself while you wait for Erina." "Thank you, Mrs. Rane! Don't mind if I do!"Miracle said as she took a cookie and eat it. ~~~~ "Hey, Erina? If you don't mind me asking, what's it like studying in a private all-girls school?"Miracle said as she open her lunch box "Well, it was kinda dull and tiring.."Erina said "It's not that amazing compared to the rumors you've known." "Really? I heard that they got shiny facilities and fancy uniforms! That, alone is amazing."Miracle said "In the outside,yes. But the moment you come inside the school, you're gonna be forced to act like a soldier." Erina said  "Whoa.. The rules are THAT strict?"Miracle said while Erina nod in confirmation. "Oh.. So you've had a little to no freedom when you studied there?"Miracle said "It's a good thing that you transferred here. You are allowed to do whatever you want, as long as it's allowed of course." "I agree. If I hadn't transferred here, then I wouldn't have met you, Mira."Erina said "I'm glad that I met you and became my best friend." "Awww, I'm touched. I'm glad that I met you too and you became my best friend,Eri!"Miracle said  "Well, we should probably finish our food. Lunch will end in like 15 minutes."Erina said "Hahaha, you're right. We don't want to be late for Mr. Spike's class, do we?"Miracle said "I really don't get why he always brings that monkey stuff toy in class."Erina said "Oh, rumor has it that he has an obsession with monkey stuff toys. Apparently, his office is full of them."Miracle said with a giggle "Eh, really?" Erina said. "Weird." ~~~~ "We're going now. Bye Mom! Bye Dad!"Erina said  "See you later, Mr. and Mrs. Rane!"Miracle said  "Have a great day at school, Sweethearts!"Amarie said as she wave at the two girls. "So, what's up?"Miracle said as she chew on a piece of cookie. "You look like you've been suck dry of blood by a vampire because of how pale your face is." "It happened again,Mira."Erina said "I found my room in a mess when I woke up." "What?! Have you been staying late at night?"Miracle said, her eyes wide in shock and disbelief "In the contrary, I've been sleeping a lot more earlier these past nights."Erina said. "I thought that the therapy would work." "I thought so too." Miracle said. "Wait, let me see your arms." "They're fine.. I think."Erina said as Miracle examines both of her arms. "No scratches, no wounds, no blood. Good. I don't want to suffer a mini heart attack again."Miracle said as she let go of Erina's arms "You don't feel anything bad, do you?" "I don't."Erina said  "Really? You're not nauseous?"Miracle said. "Or dizzy?" "I'm not feeling either of those things."Erina said "Honestly, I'm fine." "Thank goodness. Please tell me if you're feeling a bit unwell,okay? Don't scare me like last time."Miracle said ~~~~ "Eri, are you okay? You're not eating your food ever since you opened your lunchbox."Miracle said, her eyes filled with worry as she examine her friend's face. "Aren't you hungry?" "Oh, I'm sorry Mira.. I'm just feeling a bit.. weird.Don't worry."Erina said "Are you sure? You look.. pale.."Miracle said Erina felt her vision begin to blur and her head to swirl. Her surroundings and Miracle begin to distort and darken. Out of nowhere, she start to throw up blood making Miracle panic. "Oh my God, Erina!!" Miracle scream while Erina continue to vomit blood. "Wait here, I'll call some help." "N..No..Mira..Wait.."Erina said before throwing up more blood.  "Erina!! I'll be back so wait for me!"Miracle said before running inside the building towards the staff room and the clinic. Erina grasp her uniform while heaving ragged breaths. She tried to stand but the moment she did, her knees gave in and she fell on the bloodied ground.  Her heart and head are throbbing in pain so much that she almost want to cry. Blood begin to seep on her clothes mixing with dirt and sweat. Severe pain racked her entire body, making her muscles numb and restricting her to move or stand from the ground. The last thing Erina saw was Miracle running to her in panic along with the other teachers and the nurse before she met complete darkness. Erina woke up in a hospital bed after being unconscious for three days. She saw her parents and Miracle sitting on either side of her bed. Their faces manifested worry and fright. "Mom..Dad..Mira.."Erina said quietly and almost inaudible but her parents and Miracle still heard her for they immediately snapped their full attention to her. "Erina! Oh my God! Thank goodness, you're awake at last!"Amarie said  "How are you feeling?"Lui said as he took his daughter's hand "I..I'm.. Fine.."Erina said "What happened to me?" "You..You don't remember?"Amarie said  "We were eating lunch when you suddenly started to throw up blood! I went to fetch the teachers and the nurse for help and when I returned, you're on the ground surrounded by blood and completely unconscious! You almost killed me out of fright and panic, Eri!"Miracle said  "I'm.. so..sorry..Mira.."Erina said "It's okay. Next time, tell me if you're not feeling well okay? Don't make me worried again."Miracle said "I will. Thank you,Mira.."Erina said "But..Am I sick?" "According to the doctor, he saw no internal abnormalities in you so he can't explain why you were throwing up blood. Your organs are healthy and functioning well. There are no open wounds on your stomach or on any tissue so he's completely baffled and confused."Lui said "You did have had a high fever until yesterday night."Amarie said "Anyway, I'm sure you're hungry. Me and your father will go and get something for you to eat. Miracle, can you please stay here while we're gone?" "Of course, Mrs. Rane."Miracle said "Great. Well then, we'll be out in a second. Wait for us okay?"Amarie said as she pull her husband's arm and went for the door "Okay, Mom." Erina said "I'm so glad you're okay now,Eri." Miracle said "But, can you tell me about what you were screaming about when you were asleep? "I was screaming?"Erina said "About what?" "That's what I want to know about." Miracle said, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "I stayed here overnight three days ago and I suddenly woke up because you were screaming." "I was? What was I screaming about?"Erina said "I don't remember." "You were screaming about winged creatures killing humans and getting out of control or something like that."Miracle said "Have you been watching so many Horror movies lately?" "No, I haven't.."Erina said  ~~~~ "After that, you started to have those accidents."Miracle said  "Yeah. I remember waking up one day and suddenly wondering why my room looked like a tornado swept through it." Erina said "And, why my arms are bleeding like crazy." "Yeah. You told me about it and how scared you were when the bleeding won't stop." Miracle said "Oh, remember that time when your hand involuntarily jerk and suddenly, my glass of water broke?" "I remember. I was saying sorry nonstop because I got your clothes wet."Erina said "I feel really guilty about that." "Oh, don't be. It was just an accident."Miracle said "Sometimes, I think that I'm a really crazy person and should be sent to an asylum."Erina said "Weird things start happening around me after I was hospitalized." "Here we go again. Don't say that you're crazy! Because you are not crazy! Come on,Eri! You're the sweetest and kindest person that I've met! You're so far from being crazy. So stop calling yourself that." Miracle said "Even if I had Infantile Amnesia?"Erina said making Miracle go silent. "People would look at me with eyes of pity and kids in the past used to call me names because I can't remember anything about my childhood. What struck me the most are Anne's words." ~~~~ "You have Infantile Amnesia?! What a joke! So you didn't have had any friends when you were a kid?! Ha! Such a loner!"Anne said as she poke Erina's forehead harshly "Anne, stop that. We're gonna get caught you know."Ellaine, a friend of Anne said "I don't care. Anyway, I bet you are just acting and being over dramatic so you can get special attention from the teachers!"Anne said  "Anne, let's go. She's not worth it."Ara, another friend of Anne said with a sneer "Hmmp! Fine. People like you should just go and disappear already. You don't belong here. You don't have a place here, Freak."Anne said before flipping her hair and walking away with her friends ~~~~ "Erina Rane, look at me."Miracle said in a stern voice as she grab both of her friend's hands "Just forget Anne and don't hold on to her words. You are not a freak. You may be a bit different than the rest because of your Infantile Amnesia, but you're still just like us. Your parents and I love you just the way you are so please don't think that you are less of a human."Miracle said "...Okay.. Thank you for being there for me,Mira."Erina said "I'll always be with you, Eri."Miracle said "Oh, would you look at the time! WE'RE LATE!!!" "Let's go!"Erina said before pulling Miracle's arm and running the rest of the way to school Meanwhile, back at the Rane Residence, Amarie and Lui are busy opening boxes in the dusty basement. They went into several coughing fits as they scan every content of the boxes which are covered in layers of dust. "Have you found it yet?"Amarie said from across the room "Not yet. You?"Lui said as he open another box "Nothing."Amarie said before coughing again. "We've been searching for it for days now. Are you sure you didn't left it in our old house?" "I'm certain. There's no way I could've forgotten it."Lui said as he unload the contents of the box "Don't lose patience. We're doing this for Erina. " Amarie and Lui continue to open, scan and examine every box in the basement. Their combined patience begin to thin as hours tick by. Finally, after some more searching, Lui found what they're looking for. A necklace. "I found it.. Hon, I found it!"Lui said in joy as he show the necklace to Amarie "You found it..Great job, Dear!"Amarie said as hug her husband "Erina wouldn't be in danger now. As long as she wears this."Lui said "Yes. Thank goodness. Those creatures will not be able to hurt her."Amarie said "To be honest, I'm surprised that those creatures haven't made a move ever since the day Erina's soul awakened."Lui said "Yeah, they've stopped coming here to try killing her."Amarie said ~~~~ "Mom, Dad. Can I sleep with you?"a 10 year old Erina said while holding her pillow "Why is it,sweetie? Did you have a nightmare?" Amarie said as she beckon her daughter to come "No. But.. I'm scared."Erina said as she hop on the bed towards her parents' arms "Of what?"Lui said "There are shadows watching me from outside of my bedroom window."Erina said making her parents' eyes widen  "Shadows?"Lui said "What kind of shadows?" "The scary ones. They have red eyes and long sharp teeth. They also have long sharp nails and bat-like wings."Erina said  Amerie and Lui look at each other in shock which later turn into slight fear. They know what was Erina talking about. Those creatures are beings from another world. A world only a few people know of. "It must be your imagination,dear. There's no way that kind of shadows exist."Amarie said, trying to cover up her fear "Your mother's right. Forget it,Eri. Now, go back to sleep.We'll be here with you."Lui said "Okay. Good night, Mom. Good night,Dad."Erina said before closing her eyes Once they are sure that Erina's asleep, Lui stood up from the bed and went over to their closet. "It couldn't be. There's no way that they can cross the border. Only selected people knew how to cross the border. Unless.."Amarie said "Unless, someone decided to betray the Protectors and told them how to cross the border. Not only that, they told them about Erina." Lui said as he took out a bow and a quiver of arrows. "I never thought that I would use this again." "Be careful when you deal with them, Lui. Your powers are not as strong as it is before."Amarie said "I know. They're getting weak."Lui said before changing his clothes. After donning his old silver armor, Lui kissed Amarie on the lips and Erina on her forehead before going out to deal with the creature.  "Be careful, Lui."Amarie said before hugging Erina close ~~~~ "Come on, Lui. Let's take a rest. We've been looking for that necklace all afternoon. We have to take a shower before Erina comes home or else we have to explain why we're covered in dust for a necklace. You don't want Erina to find out soon, do you?"Amerie said "Yeah. She's not ready for that yet."Lui said ~~~~ "Hey Eri, have you decided what to bring for our camping trip?"Miracle said as she took a bite out of her meat bun. "Rather, did you tell your parents about it?" "Yeah. I did. Or rather, Ms. Cherry talked to my parents about it and got them to allow me."Erina said "Really? When?"Miracle said "Ms. Cherry paid a visit to our house last Tuesday to discuss about it to my parents. She knew that my parents are very strict about me getting involved into school trips without educational motives. So, she calmly persuade them to allow me to join this time."Erina said "I'm surprised that Mr. and Mrs. Rane took the bait."Miracle said "They did. Under some conditions though."Erina said "That's good, don't you think? With this, you can at least let go some stress because of those accidents.."Miracle said "I hope so."Erina said as she took a sip of her tea. Meanwhile... "Why am I the one to do this? Can't you send another Protector, old man?"A voice said in annoyance "You know that I can't do that. Besides, you said that you wanted to go to Earth ever since you were a trainee, right?" Another voice said with a sly undertone "Yeah, but not on an errand!" "This is not an errand, young man. This is a---" "Yeah, yeah. I know. It's a--quote, unquote-- mission, Former Commander." "An important one at that. Some of those disgusting and hideous creatures found a way to cross the border. So your job is--" "To find them, get information from them and then kill them. I know, I know. Can't you be even more repetitive?" "Don't be sassy with me, young man. I'm still your mentor." "I thought you're used to it? Being sassy is my trait." "Whatever. Can you please get ready and pack for the journey already? The sooner you can get it done, the sooner you can get back." "Fine. But I expect some new weapons when I return." "Sure. It's a deal."
