*VANCE*
I slept in the guest room even if I would have preferred to spend the night with Leah.
I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.
After my quick morning routine, I checked for Leah but didn’t see her anywhere in the house.
I began to panic.
Has she left me?
Maybe she doesn’t want to be married to me.
My eyes darted to the dining table and I saw a note on the table. She wrote to let me know that she had somewhere to be and would be back soon.
Only then was I able to calm down.
She may not know it yet, but she means a lot to me and now that she’s mine, I’m never going to let her go.
Scott, my personal assistant, brought over some documents for the company, so I stayed busy handling them for a while before going to prepare something for us to eat.
I was making the eggs when I heard the door open.
I rushed out and saw her come in. To be honest, I was glad she was finally back. It’s been hours.
But when I saw Leah, my brows furrowed very deep.
What’s wrong? Why does she look like this?
She looked like she had been crying for hours and was completely worn out. Her eyes were puffy and red and I could see the dried tears on her face.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, increasing my pace as I walked to her. “What happened?” I asked again, my voice laced with concern.
She heaved a sigh and looked up to meet my eyes. “I… My…” she said slowly, but she couldn’t find the words.
I didn’t exactly know what to do.
Should I say sorry?
Should I hug her or…
I wrapped my hands around her and pulled her into a warm hug.
She began to cry again.
Feeling her quick, shaky inhalation as she choked on her tears, and her trembling lips on my chest shattered my heart into pieces.
She sank into my embrace as if she felt safe and sobbed.
Who did this to her?
“It’s okay, you can tell me all about it later,” I said, comforting her.
She then told me everything when she was calm.
There was only a little out of all she said that I didn’t already know.
Of course I knew that her family treated her like dirt. I’ve kept my eyes on her for a long while now and I had very reliable sources.
“I’m really sorry this is happening, Leah,” I began. “Please don’t cry anymore, everything will be sorted I’m sure of it.”
I wiped her tears as I spoke.
I hated the fact that she was in this state.
How could they have treated her in such a cruel manner?
I know some people say; “Family is one of life’s greatest blessings.”
Well, I disagree.
I would say; To people like us, it is a curse.
Just like my family failed me several years ago, her family has hurt her so much.
I stared at her swollen face and my anger kept multiplying. There, I decided in my heart to make sure they pay for everything they have done to her.
I will make them bow before her and beg on their knees in tears.
“Thank you, Vance. I’m… I’m sorry for bothering you. Please don’t mind me,” she said, faking a smile and got up to leave.
“It’s alright. You don’t have to come to the banquet with me tonight. Just stay in and rest.”
“No, no. I’ll go,” she said and left.
I heaved a sigh.
She didn't ask me for help with the hospital bills. Why?
Obviously because she thinks I’m not capable and can’t afford a hundred thousand dollars.
Only if she knew that it was only a penny to me.

We arrived at the banquet later in the evening.
“Oh my god! This place is beautiful. It’s so big,” Leah said, surveying the surroundings with admiration in her eyes.
As I watched her, I couldn’t help but be captivated by her eyes. By her.
The soft reflection of light danced across them, making her look almost ethereal, as if she were glowing from within.
The second we arrived, everyone’s eyes were drawn to Leah. Can’t lie, she outshone every other woman in her presence.
I had bought her a skin tight, fiery dress for the banquet. And the dress showcased her tiny waist and alluring curves.
She was always in baggy clothes, you’d never know she was this sexy.
She looked so hot!
In addition, her porcelain skin and captivating features radiated an aura of nobility, like a queen who had come to grace her presence on her subjects.
Suddenly, photographers and reporters began to rush towards us.
No. I don’t want this kind of attention for us.
I looked around and saw Scott. I used my hand to signal to him and he knew immediately to inform the security to stop the incoming photographers and reporters.
“Who’s that?” Leah asked, looking in Scott’s direction.
“Oh that’s a friend,” I lied. “Let’s go inside now, they will be starting soon,” I said, trying to change the topic.
This will make it the third lie just tonight.
Earlier, Leah asked about the expensive dress and jewelry I got her, I lied.
She asked in confusion if I owned the car we came in, I lied too.
How many more lies will I need to keep my true identity hidden?
I had ordered Alan to send the cheapest car from the company and a Bugatti La Voiture Noire was the cheapest he could send??
Is he trying to blow my little cover?
No one can know anything yet. Not even Leah.
