Chapter 4 Lila’s POV Lucien’s lips met mine. As soon as he kissed me he withdrew his body, his stillness was confusing as if something unknown was holding him back. Then he walked away like nothing had happened. I stared at his back until he was out of view and ran inside my room. Rushing to my bed, I began whacking my forehead in frustration. “What is happening? Why did Lucien kiss me? What had come over him!? The heck is all this!?” I asked numerous questions, but nobody could answer me as if I was expecting an answer. “I already made a great mistake by telling him my plan. Now he kissed me. What could be his motive? And he acted as if nothing happened!” I exclaimed to the space. I knew I couldn’t dwell on this. I had already decided to leave the next day but my plan had changed. Early the next morning, I’m going to leave, I promised myself. I started packing my things slowly. When I was done I left the room to start my daily routine, making sure I ignored the annoying glance of the maid as much as I could. The night came, and I went back to my room. I couldn’t sleep. I began talking to myself, my mind kept replaying what happened that afternoon. “I can’t believe Lucien had kissed me,” I whispered to myself. Or was he possessed by something? Maybe he just did that to please his ego? No matter how hard I tried to make sense of it all, it seemed impossible. Maybe I should cease dwelling on it, I should probably sleep now, that’s the best option. I tried falling asleep and soon darkness took over. The next time I woke up was early in the morning. I picked up my bag and stared out of the window making sure everywhere was quiet. Luckily it is. I gazed at the clock and It was 5 a.m. I walked out of the room, hauling like a stray cat, each step careful and deliberate. I successfully emit from the pack's busy place, heading to the forest part, the only sound that echoed was the deliberate of the bird whisper. I finally got to the forest, happy that I had fled from the pry of eyes, my happy mood was short-lived when I Suddenly heard footsteps echoing behind me. I turned to find the quadruplets standing there, blocking my path. Their intimidating figures loomed over the darkness that surrounded us, and their expressions were a mix of anger and something unreadable. The bag I was holding slipped from my grasp, landing on the ground with a dull thud. My chest tightened. Lucien told them about my plan. I knew he would. That is why they came to a halt for me. Because I don’t think anybody knows that I’m running away from the pack. River stepped forward with a mocking gaze. “You want to run away from us? You this hopeless omega,” he slightly slapped my shoulder. And the anger in me started boiling. I don’t know why they would not let me go. They don’t like me. Still, they would not let me go. “Please, let me go. I know you don’t like me. What is now ceasing you from letting me go? You loathe me! You distress me every day of my life! Let me go, please,” I pleaded. I was expecting them to lash at me, to tell me something that I wouldn’t like, or maybe to start punishing me, but none of them made a statement. They only stood there, watching me with an unsettling silence, as if regretting something or holding back words they couldn’t bring themselves to say. “I’m going to kill you,” River hissed suddenly, breaking the quiet. His words sent a chill through me as he grabbed my waist roughly, his grip so tight it felt like he was trying to crush me. His eyes bore into mine, filled with malice that made my stomach churn. “Please, let me go!” I cried, panic overtaking me. “You don’t deserve to live,” Kai added coldly, stepping forward to grab my arm and wrench me away from River. His touch was harsh, but the coldness in his voice stung even more. They both start pulling on each other, my body trembles in pain, tears streaming down my cheeks. “You guys should stop! Stop! Stop!” I screamed, yanking my hand away from them. “What’s wrong with you? Do you want to kill me? Are you pained because I exist in this world?“I breathed down heavily and the two let me go almost at the same time. “Okay, did you hate me for existing?” I continue my gape darting between the four of them “For living in your pack? For eating the food your father provides?” I stated, my voice rising with anger and frustration. “Why do you treat me as if I don’t belong here? Why? What have I done to deserve this? I’ve tried to stay out of your way, to be what you wanted, but it’s never enough. Why? Tell me why!” I didn’t realize I was shaking until the words stopped pouring out of my lips. Tears burned my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I wanted to say more but something else was happening. I felt it deep within me, a sudden surge of power, unlike anything I’d ever felt before. It was as if something inside me had awakened, a force strong and unstoppable. I tried to form a statement but I couldn’t control my body. My body felt so strong like an overwhelming power was taking over me. And then I collapsed on the floor. The last thing I heard was Kai’s voice, low and calm. “I was right about her all along.” Then everything went blank.
