Chapter 3
Lila's POV
Oh damn! It was a dream.
I flung myself off the bed, sweat pouring from my body staring around the room.
I rubbed my palms over my forehead, trying to calm myself as I stood up. Two days until the half-moon party, and this is what I’m dreaming about?
I dreamt I was killed by a rogue while trying to escape the pack. I knew the dream was meant to scare me, just a reflection of the stress the quadruplets had been putting me through. But it doesn’t matter. I’m not changing my plan, I’m leaving this park.
I sprang off the bed and started my daily routine. Three days ago, I was in the hospital, and it was the quadruplets who came to discharge me. That same day, they forced me to witness things I can’t explain claiming I have unfinished punishment.
I headed to the kitchen to begin my chores when a maid called out behind me.
“Hey, Lila, the quadruplets are calling for you.”
Hearing their name made my heart race. I dropped the plate I was washing and hurried out of the kitchen.
When I reached their quarters, I found all four of them lounging on the couch, their eyes fixed on me like they were plotting something.
Kai gestured for me to come closer. I did, cautiously stepping into their midst.
“Kneel,” Cade ordered, his voice was firm.
I frowned. I hadn’t done anything wrong in the past two days, at least not that I knew of. Still, I didn’t resist. I slowly lowered myself to my knees, bracing for whatever nonsense they had planned.
“We’re going to play a prank on you,” Rived said casually.
“A prank?” I repeated, raising my eyebrows in disbelief.
“Yes, a prank,” he confirmed, smiling.
“We won’t touch you. We won’t beat you. We just want to hear you cry,” he added with a smirk.
My hands fell limply to my sides. What kind of childish behavior is this? My heart pounded, but I knew better than to argue.
“Start,” Cade demanded.
I hesitated, scratching my forehead, unsure what to say or do.
“I said, start!” he yelled, his voice slicing through the room like a whip.
Reluctantly, I started crying, forced sobs escaping my lips even though no one had laid a hand on me. This was ridiculous.
The door suddenly burst open, and the Luna stormed in, her fierce eyes scanning the scene.
“What is going on here?” she barked, her voice sharp.
“She’s crying, and nobody even touched her,” River lied smoothly.
The Luna’s gaze hardened as she turned to me. “Is that so?”
I wanted to say something, but she shut me up with her palm. “Don’t explain anything. Why would you do something like that? If somebody enters they will think the quadruplet are bullying you, and in a way, you are the one that is crying. Now, get up and get out of this place. That is childish behavior. You dare not do it again,” the Luna screamed at me, and tears started streaming down my face.
“What kind of life is this?” I muttered, running out of the room. I went to my room to cry. I cried until my eyes shut down in a painful way.
A knock came at my door, and I wondered who it was. I went to the door to open it, only to find Lucien standing there his expression unreadable.
“You’re here?” His voice was softer than I’d expected, and he avoided meeting my gaze.
“Yes, this is my room. Or are you here to chase me out too?” I snapped, bitterness spilling out. “Go ahead! I’ll leave the room for you! You can stay here if you want!”
“No, no,” he said quickly, his tone calm. “That’s not why I’m here. Please, calm down. I’m not here to hurt you or argue with you.”
I frowned, studying him. This wasn’t the Lucien I knew.
“Then why are you here?” I asked warily.
“I’m here to check on you,” he said simply.
Those words sent a jolt through me. “To check on me? Why?”
“I saw you crying earlier,” he explained, his voice gentle.
“And so what? What if I was crying? You were there when your brothers made me cry for no reason. You were sitting right there when your mother walked in and they lied, saying I was crying on my own. And you said nothing! You did nothing!” I shouted, my anger bubbling over.
“That is why I’m here,” Lucien stepped forward with a worried expression. “I’m sorry for everything that happened. I’m just here to check on you,” he spoke with a calm reserved voice but I won't let that get to me.
“And you expect me to be okay?” I shout back “After everything that you guys have done, you expect me to be okay, right? But sorry to say no, I’m not okay. I know you are here to pretend like you care so you will get words out of my lips. In other to get something to deliver to your brothers. But I’m not going to talk. I’m not going to say a dime,” I breathed down heavily staring straight into his eyes.
“You see, listen, and listen very well. I’m going to leave this pack for the better, by this time tomorrow, I will be out of this pack. You can choose another person to turn to prank-toy.”
I did not even know when the statement got out of my mouth. I planned to keep it a secret.
“What do you mean by that?” Lucien asked, his voice tense.
“You heard me,” I said firmly. “I mean every word.”
“You don’t have the right to leave without our permission,” he said, his voice growing colder.
“Oh, so now you want to talk about rights?” I snapped. “Do you think you have the right to treat me this way? Just because your father is the alpha doesn’t give you the right to treat people like punching bags. And let me make one thing clear—”
Before I could complete my statement, Lucien’s lips pressed against mine, silencing me. The shock left me frozen, my mind unable to process what had just happened.
