Chapter 24
Oh, s**t. She was calling Mike in on our conversation.
“Stephanie, I-“
“Lexi, please, just wait until Mike gets here. We’ll figure all this out.”
“Okay,” I whispered.
I chewed on the inside of my cheek and tried to calm my heart rate. Yeah, I meant to go in to Stephanie’s office and tell her I didn’t want the job if it was only mine because Mike had forced them all to give it to me, but I didn’t mean to have it all come out the way it did. I may have sunk my career, and taken Mike’s with it.
A knock on the door alerted us that Mike had arrived. He pushed the door open and saw me sitting across from Stephanie’s desk. “Good morning. What’s going on?”
“Please close the door, Mike. We all need to talk,” Stephanie said sternly.
