Megan’s POV
I watched Grayson leave, ignoring the ache in my chest to follow him.
How did I end up here?
Everything is so screwed up.
The gem around my neck heated up as Grayson came in, now the stone was finally cooling down. Leaving a small red mark on my chest.
Verity pulled my attention as she struggled to lift the broken light, grunting with the effort.
Smiling I reached out, grabbing the other side and helped her lift it.
Once all the wood and glass had been cleared, verity went back to work on the rest of the decorations.
I watched her for a second before turning to leave.
Five minutes.
I just need five minutes to breath and clear my head. After a few moments I finally made it outside, fresh air filling my lungs.
I felt myself start to calm as I lent on the cold brick building.
I don’t know how long I stood there, eyes closed, taking slow cold breaths.
Jumping at Andy’s voice, the sound so close it caused me to yelp.
“Are you okay?”
After a pause of silence, me gasping, trying to calm my racing heart. Andy just leaned on the building beside me, patiently waiting.
“I’m fine, just needed some air.”
Andy raised an eyebrow at me, waiting for me to continue but I couldn’t. She wouldn’t understand, none of them would. They hadn’t lived through it like I had. They couldn’t understand it.
When I remained silent Andy sighed, walking towards the door. Looking over her shoulder she said.
“Come with me.”
Bowing my head I followed her inside, expecting her to head into the ballroom. But she didn’t, instead she turned and started walking upstairs. Silently motioning me to follow her.
We walked to the third floor and sown the long hallway before reaching the alpha’s suite.
“I thought you’d prefer to speak in private, besides Logan’s been frustratingly protective lately and I told him I was going to rest for a while. I dread to think of the fuss that man would make if he came here, and I was elsewhere “she said chuckling slightly at the thought.
She settled on the bed, tapping the empty spot beside her. After hesitating for a moment, I say down, she’s the Luna and she’s Andy, there’s really no point in arguing.
“I really am fine Lu...” she glared at me. “I mean Andy, I promise. I just needed some air, besides, I am supposed to be cleaning up the ballroom.”
“That dress I bought, it suited you perfectly last night. You looked stunning.”
I smiled, thanking her.
My face paled as realisation dawned on me, she had seen my dress. She had bought it, even with the mask on she would have known it was me.
I turned to look at her, she was smirking at me.
“You know, don’t you?”
“I saw you dancing with a man. When Grayson ran, I didn’t see who he was chasing. But he described his mate, and when we went back inside you were nowhere to be found. It wasn’t hard to piece it together.”
She knew, the whole time.
“You haven’t told him.” I didn’t phrase it as a question, but she shook her head anyway.
“Why?” I whispered.
“I have some understanding of rejection.” She smiled, her eyes sad as she continued.
“It is not my place to force you into anything, besides, I do not believe you would run without a reason to do so.”
Keeping my eyes fixated on my hands, avoiding her gaze as it burned a hole in the side of my head.
“I, I can’t do it.”
Andy was quiet for a moment before she spoke.
“Now, or forever?”
Burying my head in my hands, I began to sob.
“I-I’m not sure.” I stuttered between sobs.
Her arms wrapped around me, bringing my face to her shoulder. We both stayed like that for what felt like hours, me crying on her shoulder and her chin resting on my head. Until my tears dries up and I pulled away wiping my eyes.
“I do not enjoy lying to my friend.” She whispered.
When I went to apologise, she shook her head. Silencing me.
“However, I will not expose you.”
Shocked, my eyes found hers.
She wouldn’t tell him.
Why?
“I won’t tell him, however if he asks me directly, I won’t lie to him.”
Nodding, I smiled at her. Thankful, she was being so kind to me.
“He’s a good guy, you know?” She finally whispered.
A knock on the door pulled our attention.
“Come in.” Andy yelled.
After a second, the door opened, and Verity walked in.
“Logan said you’d be up here. Oh, hi Megan, are you okay?”
“She’s fine, just needed to talk. Is everything okay?”
She nodded. “Yeah, the boys were just being annoying. I needed somewhere to hide.”
Andy chuckled, moving over slightly. Making room for Verity on the bed.
Verity sprawled out on the foot of the bed, groaning when someone knocked on the door.
Verity shuffled, crawling off the bed and hiding behind it.
“Come in.” Andy yelled, chuckling at Verity’s glare towards the door.
A second later Grayson opened the door. His eyes falling on us, a confused look on his face.
Andy’s gaze shifted between us, her eyes filled with questions.
“Have you seen Verity?”
“Nope, is something wrong?”
Grayson shuffled on his feet, his hand running through his hair.
“What did you do?” Andy groaned.
His cheeks tinted red as he avoided her gaze.
“Alexi thought she might be able to help, I think I may have phrased it badly though.”
“Phrased what?” Andy persisted.
“If she knew my mate because well, she...”
“Please tell me you didn’t ask her because she ran too.”
Grayson groaned, still avoiding eye contact.
“I’ll talk to her.” Andy said, shooing him away.
As soon as the door closed Verity jumped up, back on the bed.
“So, he asked you about running, and your response was to run?” Andy asked, keeping her face calm. She was struggling to keep a straight face when Verity shrugged. She broke and burst out laughing.
“I never said it was a smart plan.” Verity groaned, making Andy laugh even more.
My restraint broke and I started laughing as Andy struggled to speak between laughing fits.
“His face, he looked terrified.”
“You should’ve seen him when I ran, his mouth dropped open.”
The door swung open, and Alexi walked in, staring at all of us.
“You could knock.” Andy groaned.
“I could... have you seen Grayson? I think he’s avoiding me.”
“Why would you think that?” Verity asked.
“I yelled to him, but he just paled and ran in the other direction.”
Andy, Verity and me all locked eyes and burst into a hysterical laughing fit.
“Have I missed something? Again?” Alexi whined, sounding more like a toddler than a beta.
Our laughter only got louder as he glared at us, mumbling a whatever as he left the room.
