Chapter Twenty-TwoEating humble pie had been worth it, Jim Billing thought with smug satisfaction. No other TV presenter had been allowed near Winkfield, but he was on his way. OK, the PM had cut him up a bit, but such things happened. Anyway, the bottom line was an interview with the Alien. That was a coup. Billing’s familiar sharp-featured face made no difference to the rigorous security check; no detail was omitted. For heaven’s sake, everybody knew who he was! What was the big deal? He was annoyed and it showed in his body language, but he had sufficient sense to keep his mouth shut. What made it worse was the special way they treated the i***t Freddie Sharpe. He was simply waved through. Again Billing made no comment. Comments would come later on prime time. That would be fun! Next
