Chapter 1 Betrayal
Chapter 1 Betrayal
“Stop!!!
Those were the first words that came out of my mouth, I was confused, in shock, but really disappointed, it was my wedding night and my wedding dress was in shambles and she was standing there like she didn't know what had happened, my best friend was ruining my dress,
She stood there with her eyes cold with no remorse and all I instantly felt was dizziness. My hands were cold and my knees weak.
It was my wedding night, the night I had dreamt of since I was a girl. And she was holding onto the hem of my wedding dress. It ripped the satin town like the dress had wrong her in many ways.
“ How could you do this to me, Lara?” I blurted out, crying, “It's my wedding night”.
Then suddenly my eyes began to feel blurry, my knees weakened and I felt dizzy, too dizzy to stand.
The next thing I knew everything went dark.
When I opened my eyes again the light was binding, my head felt heavy, my mouth dry, then a beeping sound echoed beside me.
“Good morning, Miss Adina, how are you feeling today?” a voice said softly.
And I turned weakly, a blonde hair nurse stood bedside my bed, her smile warm but distant, that's when I notice the wires the tubes and the machine humming quietly at my side, I was in a hospital bed
“Where… where am I?” I murmured, my throat dry.
What happened to me? I asked
You were brought in three days ago, she responded.
Three days? My eyes widened. What day is it?
It's the nineteenth, ma'am.
And then I started having flashbacks. This was really happening. I was in the hospital and I wasn't married. I know I wasn't. I checked my fingers and the diamond ring was still there… like a souvenir.
Then the door cracked open.
“Oh my darling Adina you're awake, my mom said her eyes were red and her face pale, “thank the stars I thought I would lose you”
“How are you feeling?”.
“Am fine, mum where is Lara”… I asked like I was trying to gasp for air.
My head was heavy from all the injections and my vision was blurred. “I haven't seen her honey," she said as her expression shifted.
“But… she's the one who brought me here”, I said, my voice shaking. “Didn't she… check on me?”
What do you mean? I asked like I didn't already know the truth, I wasn't really ready for reality but the nurse answered.
“You mean the tall beautiful lady with the blunt haircut”
I quickly nodded,
“Ohh, yes, she was the one who brought you in the night you collapsed.
She said she would be back, but I haven't heard from her.
I wanted to scream and tear the IV from my arms and rush to go find her. But my body wouldn't move. My vision blurred again.
Then the doctor entered. A middle aged man with tired eyes and clipboard pressed tightly to his chest. He handed the file to my mother, who read it silently, and then her face crumbled
Tears fell from her eyes, thick and fast staining her dress
“Mum, what's wrong?” my heart is pounding. “It couldn't get worse than this right?”
Her lips trembled as she reached for my hand.
“Oh, my baby, she whispered. “I'm sorry”. I didn't know you went through all this.”
“What happened?” My voice was barely a whisper now.
The doctor sighed deeply, his words heavy and slow “Miss Adina… I'm so sorry. You miscarried".
The world stopped.
“No…” I shook my head. “No you can't say that”
I couldn't hear the machines anymore only the sound of my heartbeat breaking into pieces
I looked down at my belly, at the life that was supposed to grow there. The life we made. The life that was supposed to make everything worth it.
It was gone.
The only thing left of him is gone too.
Tears streamed down my face, faster than I could wipe them. My hospital sleeve was soaking, my chest tight, I couldn't breathe. I couldn't think.
The ring still glimmered on my finger like a cruel reminder, a promise died before it began.
I closed my eyes and whispered, “The life I dreamed of… ended before it began”.
And silence filled the room, I finally understood what betrayal felt like, not just from them but from life itself.
