The stranger didn't introduce himself, but his eyes seemed to bore into Alice's soul. "Back off from the article, Alice," he growled. "Don't write it."
Alice stood her ground, her heart racing. "Who are you? How did you get in here?"
The stranger sneered. "You don't need to know who I am. Just listen to what I'm saying. Drop the article, or else."
Alice felt a surge of fear, but she refused to back down. "I'm not afraid of you," she lied. "And I'm definitely not going to drop the article."
The stranger's eyes narrowed. "You're a foolish woman, Alice. You don't know what you're dealing with."
Suddenly, he pulled out a knife and advanced towards Alice. But Alice was no pushover. She had taken self-defense classes and was ready to use her skills.
"Come on," she said, her eyes flashing with determination. "I'm not going to back down."
The stranger snarled and lunged at her, but Alice was quick. She dodged his attack and countered with a kick that sent him stumbling backward.
"You're a feisty one, I'll give you that," he said, his eyes gleaming with admiration. "But you're still no match for me."
Alice stood her ground, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew she had to protect herself, no matter what.
"Leave now," she said, her voice firm. "And don't come back."
The stranger sneered, but he backed off, disappearing into the night as suddenly as he had appeared.
Alice was left shaking, but she knew she had to be strong. She couldn't let fear win. She took a deep breath and steadied herself, her mind racing with questions.
Who was that man? And what did he want from her?
Alice's hands were shaking as she dialed the inspector's number. "Please come to my house," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "There's been a man lurking around my house, and I'm scared."
The inspector's voice was calm and reassuring. "I'll send someone over right away, Alice. Just stay safe until we get there."
Alice nodded, even though he couldn't see her. She looked around her house, feeling a sense of unease. She had locked all the doors and windows, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that someone was watching her.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Alice's heart skipped a beat. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should open it. But then she heard her friend Zara's voice.
"Alice, it's me! I saw your message and I got scared. Please open the door!"
Alice's heart flooded with relief. She opened the door to find Zara looking frantic with worry.
"Oh my god, Alice! I was so scared when I saw your message. What happened?"
Alice hugged her friend tightly. "I'm so glad you're here, Zara. I didn't want to open the door, but I knew it was you."
Zara pulled back and looked at Alice's face. "You're shaking. What happened?"
Alice took a deep breath and told Zara everything - the man who had been lurking around her house, the message she had sent to Zara, and the inspector's promise to send someone over.
Zara's eyes widened in shock. "Oh my god, Alice. You must be terrified. I'm not leaving you alone tonight. I'm going to spend the night here with you."
Alice nodded gratefully. "Thank you, Zara. I don't know what I would do without you."
As they hugged each other tightly, Alice knew that she was lucky to have a friend like Zara. She was safe now, and she knew that everything would be okay.
The next morning, Max went to Julian's office, looking pale and shaken. "Julian, I have to tell you something," he said, his voice trembling.
Julian looked up from his desk, his eyes narrowing. "What is it, Max?"
Max took a deep breath. "I wasn't able to take down the lady. She was too powerful, too strong. I couldn't handle her."
Julian's face turned red with anger. "You i***t, Max!" he shouted, slamming his fist on the desk. "I told you to take her down, and you failed me!"
Max cowered, expecting a physical blow. "I'm sorry, Julian. I tried my best, but she was just too much for me."
Julian's anger turned to fury. "You're sorry? You're sorry? You're going to be a lot sorrier if you don't take her down within the next 24 hours. Do you understand me, Max?"
Max nodded, trembling. "Y-yes, Julian. I understand."
Julian's eyes blazed with fury. "Good. Because if you don't take her down, I'll kill you myself. And I'll do the job myself, too."
Max knew that Julian was not a man to be trifled with. He had seen him kill before, and he knew that he was capable of it again. He nodded, determined to take down the lady, no matter what it took.
"Yes, Julian. I'll do it. I'll take her down."
Julian's face twisted into a cruel smile. "Good. I knew I could count on you, Max. Now go out there and get the job done."
Max nodded and turned to leave, but Julian's parting words stopped him in his tracks.
"And Max?"
"Yes, Julian?"
"If you fail me again, you're dead. Do you understand?"
Max nodded, his heart racing with fear. "Y-yes, Julian. I understand."
