Alice walked into the coffee shop, looking for a much-needed break from her hectic day. As she waited in line, she noticed a man sitting in the corner, typing away on his laptop. There was something about him that caught her attention, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
When it was her turn to order, Alice asked for her usual coffee and took a seat at the bar, trying to mind her own business. But as she glanced over at the man again, their eyes met, and she felt a jolt of electricity run through her body.
The man, Julian, looked up from his laptop and locked eyes with Alice. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the tension between them palpable.
Alice felt a shiver run down her spine as Julian got up and walked towards her. "Mind if I join you?" he asked, his voice low and smooth.
Alice shook her head, trying to play it cool. "Not at all," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
Julian sat down next to her and introduced himself. Alice tried to make small talk, but the conversation was strained. They both seemed to be dancing around something, but neither of them wanted to make the first move.
As they sipped their coffee, the silence between them grew thicker. Alice couldn't help but notice the way Julian's eyes seemed to bore into her soul, as if he was trying to read her every thought.
Finally, Julian broke the silence. "So, Alice, what do you do?" he asked, his voice a little softer now.
Alice hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "I'm a journalist," she replied finally.
Julian's eyes narrowed. "What kind of journalist?"
Alice felt a surge of defensiveness. "I write about politics and corruption," she replied, her voice firm.
Julian's expression changed, and for a moment, Alice thought she saw a glimmer of interest. But then, his face closed off again, and he looked away. "I see," he said, his voice dripping with skepticism. "Well, I'm sure that's very... enlightening."
Alice felt a spark of anger ignite within her. Who did this guy think he was, anyway? She turned to face him, her eyes flashing with defiance. "Yes, it is," she replied, her voice firm. "And I'm not afraid to speak truth to power."
Alice and Julian continued to chat, with Julian pretending not to know her. "So, Alice, what do you like to do for fun?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Alice raised an eyebrow, wondering why Julian was playing dumb. "I like to read and hike," she replied, her voice neutral.
Julian nodded enthusiastically. "I love hiking too! Maybe we can go on a hike together sometime."
Alice laughed politely, but inside, she was screaming. Who did this guy think he was? She tried to play along, but her mind was racing. Why was Julian pretending not to know her?
As they continued to chat, Alice started to feel uncomfortable. Julian seemed to be fishing for information, asking her questions about her interests and hobbies. She started to wonder if he was trying to gather intel on her.
Finally, Alice couldn't take it anymore. "Julian, I need to go," she said abruptly, standing up and grabbing her bag.
Julian looked surprised, but he quickly recovered. "Okay, nice talking to you, Alice," he said, his eyes lingering on hers.
As Alice left the coffee shop, she quickly scanned the street for a cab. She spotted one and rushed towards it, eager to get away from Julian and his strange behavior.
As she hailed the cab and jumped in, she felt a sense of relief wash over her. She was glad to be rid of Julian and his awkward questions. But as the cab drove away, she couldn't shake the feeling that Julian was hiding something. Little did she know, their encounter was only the beginning of a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

Alice was still shaken by her encounter with Julian at the coffee shop. She tried to focus on her work, but her mind kept wandering back to their conversation. She was typing away on her laptop when her colleague, Sarah, approached her.
"Hey, Alice, you have a visitor," Sarah said, handing her a note.
Alice's heart skipped a beat as she read the note. "Julian is here to see me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Sarah nodded. "Yeah, he's waiting for you outside."
Alice felt a sense of trepidation as she got up from her desk. She didn't know what Julian wanted, but she had a feeling it wasn't good.
When she got to the waiting area, Julian was pacing back and forth. "Alice, we need to talk," he said, his eyes gleaming with intensity.
Alice hesitated, but Julian took her arm and led her to a private room. "Listen, Alice, I know you're working on an article about me," he said, his voice low and menacing. "But I'm warning you, back off. If you don't, I'll hurt you. I'll hurt your friend."
Alice felt a chill run down her spine. "What are you talking about?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
"I know all about your friend, Daisy and Zara Julian said, his eyes glinting with malice. "And I know you're planning to write a story about it. But if you do, I'll make sure you regret it."
Alice knew she had to take Julian's threat seriously. She nodded, trying to process what was happening.
"Good," Julian said, his eyes narrowing. "I'll be watching you."
And with that, he turned and walked away, leaving Alice feeling shaken.
He was only pretending at the coffee shop.
He knew a lot about her and even are friends whose lives are now in danger because of her.
But she was never going to give up, she thoughts.
