Chapter 9. Danger in a Different World Sam blinked in an effort to clear his vision but remained blind for thirty seconds. When his vision returned he slowly began to make out gray mist all around them. They had come out of the flash and into a cloud. Sam felt the cool fog-like moisture soak his face and cover his goggles. Randolph slowed his pace to a stroll and descended, still breathing hard. Sam sighed with relief. Going through a flash hadn’t hurt at all. He had lost his eyesight for about half a minute, similar to what happened when a flashbulb went off while he looked at a camera. However, his vision came right back and he had experienced no pain. Sam pulled his shirt and jacket down to cover his stomach, wiped his goggles with his hand and turned around to look at the flash.
