Tomorrow or tonight as the clock strikes twelve I’ll no longer be tethered to the Mystic Realm. I need to be with her when that time comes for it will no longer be safe. So when the headmaster of Whitmore Academy called me back to the school I was thoroughly annoyed.
“Kye, welcome back!” Tolkin exclaimed when I appeared in his office.
“What do you want, Tolkin? Today is not the day to be messing with me.”
“Well, we know tomorrow is the fifteenth anniversary of the siege of the Faerie Kingdom and we know you tend to want that day to be by yourself as the lone survivor of that day, but you see one of our professors passed away when he went to visit his people in the Orca village and we were hoping you would fill in as a teacher starting tomorrow,” Tolkin said with a smile on his face. The dude freaks me out, how he can just stand there and talk about one of his professors dying as if it’s nothing is beyond my understanding.
Either way, she’ll need a safe place to go after tomorrow and this is as safe a place as any, and that way I’ll still be able to look after her and make sure she’s safe.
“Okay, I’ll start back as a teacher tomorrow. Though, I might be a little rusty seeing as I haven’t taught in twenty years.”
“Of course, thank you so much, Kye, we greatly appreciate this and we will be the most understanding of your situation.”
With that, I leave Tolkin’s office and head back to her. I still remember the day she was born. I was sitting in the Kingdom of Starlight praying to the Moon goddess Selena that the princess would be safe. I knew I was to be her guardian as I was chosen by the Queen and King to be the guardian of their firstborn daughter and finally they were having the daughter they’d dreamed of for the last ten years they’ve been together. Both have kids from before they found each other, but since being mates, they’ve been unable to bear children, until now, and finally, I was going to become a small child’s guardian. They originally appointed me twenty-five years ago when they first got together, but I continued teaching for another five years, before finally moving into the castle to try to get acquainted with castle life before the Queen would eventually have children with the King.
So I prayed every day for her to conceive and when she did I prayed the child would be safe and healthy in and outside of the womb.
Then the time finally came and the Queen was set to give birth. I felt as soon as the child entered the world and a bond snapped into place at first I thought it was just the bond of a guardian and then I realized it was more than just that. I quickly put a protection spell over the firstborn daughter of the queen. That if anything shall ever happen to the king or queen the girl would be sent and bound to the Mortal planes until the time she came of age at the age of seventeen.
I looked at the clock on her nightstand and realized it was time, in less than a minute the spell would end and she would be in danger.
I noticed the others reaching for her and I panicked. “Get away from her!” I bellow, reaching out and quickly picking her up bridal style.
As the creatures surround us and go to leap I teleport me and the young girl out of there. I noticed the girl slightly opened her eyes and she didn’t look scared. She just briefly smiled before falling back to sleep.
I teleported back to Whitmore Academy where she’d be safe. Taking her to her new dorm room and laying her down on her bed. Making note that at some point in the coming days I’d need to make sure to get her more clothes and personal items. Currently, she only has a few school uniforms.
