Chapter 3

1054 Words
James put a big mirror near the bed and covered it with a towel on the fourteenth day. Benita watched as he carefully unsealed the nylon from her body with no expectations of looking good or different. She wants nothing else because James had accepted her the way she was. She watched James raise his eyebrows in shock. And waited for him to say something. “Do you want to know what angels look like?” James finally found words to say in the stunning moment. She shook her head and tried to understand him. James pulled the towel off the mirror and moved aside so Benita could see her beautiful reflection. In disbelief, Benita touched her smooth cheeks, and poignant tears slipped down her crimson eyes. Is she really the one in the mirror? “If you are this beautiful when you have not bathed for days, I am wondering how pretty you would look after bathing and dressing up,” James said. Benita happily hurried to the bathroom, dressed up and returned to the mirror, touching her face again. “It was really me. I am not dreaming.” A tear slightly dripped from one eye, and she didn’t bother to wipe it off, for it came from her joyful soul. James slowly wiped her tears with his hand. “We need to celebrate your new look. Let’s have our breakfast at the nearest restaurant.” Benita raised her eyebrows. “Can you afford the food there?” “I can buy the whole restaurant if you want me to buy it for you.” Benita laughed, thinking James bragged because he didn’t want to lose her now that she was pretty. “You don’t have to brag to keep me. You have already won my heart.” “I’m not bragging. I can buy you anything you want. I am a powerful and famous rich man.” She laughed more. If he was really that, then why did he marry her when she was the ugliest girl in Aurora? “I understand you. I will follow you to the restaurant and won’t request food you can’t afford. Don’t worry about losing me. I won’t leave you because if I do, part of me would suffer exceedingly. If I hurt you, it would hurt me.” James wished she could just believe him. He let out a heavy sigh and accepted that she didn’t. It’s fine. Time will tell. They walked out and sauntered onto the street, and Benita felt like she was walking on the earth for the first time, for every man and woman turned their heads towards her in surprise. “This is the number one beauty in Aurora. Her beauty was alluring to me…” “Is she from a different world?...” Some people were surprised to see James with her. “Is that not the loser who married Benita of Casanova? Has he divorced her already?” “I heard Benita received a free treatment from the best hospital in Eldraldor. Could that be Benita?” “No, no, no. She is not.” Linda Casanova was having fun with her friends near the restaurant at that moment. One of her friends taped her while pointing at James. “Is that not Benita’s husband heading to the restaurant with a different woman?” The ice cream Linda was licking slipped down her hand as she quickly took her phone and snapped pictures of James holding hands with Benita. She then quickly called Mrs. Casanova’s phone number. “Hello, dear!” Mrs. Casanova said. “I saw Benita’s husband with a new girl. I will send his picture to you. Check your WhatsApp.” “Oh, my poor Benita. Why did he marry her when he couldn’t live with her? I need to teach him a lesson. Send me the address too.” Linda hung up and quickly sent the pictures and address to Mrs. Casanova. She then received a message from her, telling her to wait until her gang gets there. She told her to show James to them, and they should bring him home so they could punish him privately. James brought expensive food to the table, and Benita widened her eyes. She wanted to complain, but all eyes were on her. It would be better to propose it by the time they get home. “You can eat everything. And if you need anything else, tell me,” James said. She motioned to him to bring his ear and then whispered, “How many times do you want me to tell you not to boast? You even waste money on this expensive food. Don’t let this mistake repeat itself, or else I won’t follow you to any restaurant again. And listen, I won't eat this alone. Is that clear?” James nodded and smiled, although he wanted to argue. He had to stop himself. He had to find out what had happened to his family twenty years ago and do the necessary things in silence before she could fully know who he really was. Not long after, Linda stormed in with her friends and ten giant men. She then pointed to James. “He is the one. Carry him.” Benita quickly rose as the five men surrounded James. “Linda, what happened?” Linda was confused. The voice of the beautiful lady sounds like Benita’s, and she even knows her name. “It’s me, Benita. Can’t you recognize me?” Linda furrowed her brow. Is she really Benita? “Benita, I knew, is the ugliest person in this city. How come you sound like her?” “She received free treatment from the best hospital in Eldraldor,” James said. Benita exchanged glances with her stunned friends. And at that point, the only thing that convinced Linda that the pretty lady was Benita was because of the similar voice. She quickly took out her phone and called Mrs. Casanova. “Granny, I’m confused. I can’t fully believe what I saw. The pretty lady with James is claiming to be Benita.” “Bring both of them.” Linda gestured to the gangs. “She asked us to bring them.” James didn’t struggle with them. He and Benita followed them into the car.
