Chapter 5

Monica and Lewis, Benita’s parents, visited her as soon as they heard the news. They were stunned to see Benita and instantly regretted abandoning their daughter to Mrs. Casanova’s care when she needed them the most. Monica shed tears as she hugged Benita. “I’m a heartless mother. Please find a place in your heart to forgive me.” A tear crawled down Benita’s cheek, and she quickly cleaned it. “Let’s forget about the past. I have forgiven everyone.” Monica held her more tightly and sobbed more. “No, Benita. We don’t deserve your forgiveness. Please tell us to leave and never to come back again.” Mrs. Casanova sighed and looked at Monica with disdain. “My Benita is not as heartless as you. She has forgiven everyone. If you keep disturbing her with your fake apology, I will never let you see her again.” The door opened, and a maid came in with a wrapped gift. “Mr. Jeffery, the heir of the Smith family, asked me to give you this gift. He said, he would visit you by 5 PM tomorrow.” Mrs. Casanova smiled, knowing for sure Jeffrey gave her the gift because of Benita. This rare chance she had been waiting for had come. She would use Jeffery to get a contract from the Velora company. She took her phone from the table and called James. “James, listen to me carefully. You must come by 5 PM tomorrow. If you refuse to come, forget about seeing Benita for the rest of your life.” Mrs. Casanova didn’t allow James to say anything; she hung up the call and then called her lawyer to bring a divorce letter. Benita let out a heavy sigh, and disappointment spread across her face. “Do you want to sell me to Jeffery?” Mrs. Casanova smiled and dropped her phone on the table. “Why would I sell you? It is sure that you would fall in love with Jeffery at first sight.” “I would never. James is enough for me, and I will never divorce him.” “There is nothing James can offer. Don’t you want betterment of our family? Why settle for less when there are tons of men like Jeffery out there who can connect our family company to a Velora company?” “Oh, I see what you are trying to do. I understand, but you should remember love matters the most,” Benita said. “Keep your mouth shut. If you don’t care about our company, can’t you care about your future kids? If I marry a poor man, would your father live in peace?” Mrs. Casanova stood and looked at Lewis. “You’d better advise your daughter well. The humiliation she brought to this family is enough. If she doesn’t want this family to develop, I would stop sending you your shares from our company, and she would forever regret it.” She carried the gift and went to her room. Lewis sighed and looked at Benita. “Granny knows the best for you. Think well about your future children. Did you want them to suffer in the name of love? Please, even if you don’t want to marry Jeffery, divorce James first.” Benita burst into tears. “I will never divorce him. He is the only person who accepted me when everyone rejected me.” Monica quickly hugged her and sobbed too. “Do you want me to lose my shares?” Lewis asked “Do you care much about your shares or your daughter?” Monica frowned at James. Five men walked in and stood at the door as instructed by Mrs. Casanova to monitor Benita, not to let her take a single step out.
