CHAPTER 1

**Olivia's POV** It is a bright Saturday morning. I wake up in my room and decide to inform my adopted mother, Nancy George, about my need to continue my education at the pack’s university. As a 17-year-old girl, I see many of our pack members fall sick, and this sparks a desire in me to study medicine and help them. When I get out of bed, I wear a white night dress. I put on my black slippers and breathe out heavily. I know I have to try my luck with my adopted mother. She is cruel to me, but she pampers her own daughter, Emily. I have to try. It is my only hope of gaining admission into the pack’s university, which is expensive. Nancy works as a nurse in the pack’s hospital, and her husband, Wren, is a lawyer for the Alpha’s family. Even though they are delta wolves, they are rich from working, and they take care of their two children, Mark and Emily, whom they spoil. Mark is a 24-year-old guy and is hardly home. Strangely, he has returned home because he is a basketball star and has his own money. He is spoiled and has several girlfriends, whom he often comes home with. His mother would never reprimand him for it. She would encourage him not to take any of those girls seriously, and she says he should wait for his fated mate. I cannot blame Mark. He is rich, along with his parents’ wealth. The young ladies in our pack, the Starfield Pack, love him. As I walk down the corridor, I make my way to the living room, seeing that it is after 8 a.m. I have to try my luck because I have no wolf. I was born on a moonless night, so I cannot shift like them. As I unlock the living room door, I hear Emily’s excited voice saying, “Mom, I still cannot believe it. Daniel Ryan, the Beta’s son, is asking me to be his girlfriend.” My heart clenches when I hear Emily say that. Daniel previously asks me to be his girlfriend, but I tell him no. He does not give me a chance to explain myself as he spits in my face and pushes me to the ground. “Who would want to date a wolfless girl like you? I was only doing you a favor,” he spits in front of many of my high school friends. I feel so embarrassed, and Emily comes rushing over to meet Daniel. She holds his hand and tells him, “Daniel, you can be my boyfriend, and don’t waste your time on this bìtch.” My heart aches, but I push the hurt aside. They are good for each other, I think, but Daniel peers at me angrily because he is the Beta’s son, and my rejection makes him feel bad. But I try to avoid him. After all, he isn't a student in my class. He has only come to the school for his junior sister’s graduation certificate. I shut my eyes at the painful memories, clench my fist, and move into the living room. The air thickens at the sight of me, and the family at the dining table stops eating as they sense my presence. “Good morning,” I greet them with a forced smile. “Morning, Olivia. What do you want here?” Nancy asks as she picks up a glass of water and drinks. She sits beside her husband, while her son and daughter sit across from her. Seeing their eyes on me, I splutter but decide to go straight to the point. “Um, Aunt, I want to continue my education at the pack university.” “Hahaha!” Nancy laughs as she peers at me. She wears a blue night dress, and she is fair and beautiful for her age. “Why should you continue your education? You’re wolfless, and you don’t have to think about going to the university. You should serve as our maid as repayment for all the money we spend feeding you up to this size. Isn’t that right, honey?” She shifts her gaze to her husband, who nods. “Yes. My mate is right,” Mr. George declares. “Olivia, you are to give up your ambition of going to the university and serve as a cleaner here,” he says. “No! It has been my dream to create medicine to help our pack members get better. Please.” I kneel before my foster parents, and I am grateful they adopt me and feed me. But I have to continue my education. Emily rises from her dining chair. She wears a white night dress, and she rushes up to meet me. “You slut! Didn’t you hear Mom say that you are not going to the university? You’re to become a servant here in our home and clean the house. Got that!” She smacks me across my left cheek and sends me to the ground. “That’s enough, Emily!” Mark yells. His icy voice makes his sister jump as she turns to look at him. “Mark, are you taking this bìtch’s side over me, your sister? Mom, Dad, Mark is favoring Olivia!” Emily cries and points at me. The atmosphere in the dining room becomes tense as my foster parents look at Mark suspiciously. “What has come over you, Mark? How can you defend that worthless girl? We only adopt Olivia to give Emily a younger sister, and since Emily does not want Olivia anymore, you are not to favor Olivia or see her as your sister. Now, apologize to Emily!” Mr. George declares. Mark peers at his parents’ faces. His jaw clenches as he rises to his feet. “Mom, Dad, you both are wrong. I cannot sit here and watch you bully Olivia just because she does not have a wolf. If you guys don’t want her presence anymore, take her back to the orphanage home. I am out of here.” Mark walks away from the dining room, not sparing me a glance, and my jaw drops at his blunt words to his parents. “Mark! Come back here!” His parents try calling him, but he already leaves the house. The sound of his car starting in the garage fills the air as he drives off. “You slut! What did you do to possess my only son?” Mrs. Nancy yells as she rushes toward me and descends on me in the living room. Her fists connect with my face as she smacks me continuously until I faint.
