Chapter 5

••Mark•• "Wait, Mark! Where are you rushing to? We want to have a little celebration party for winning against the Red Ballers now, and yet you're in a hurry. Is there something you're hiding from us?" Daniel asked, moving forward to meet me. His gaze was fixed on me coldly as he smirked. I didn't like how Daniel pointed out his questions, drawing the attention of our teammates. "It's personal. And I do not need to tell you," I replied, my voice calm as my eyes met Daniel's gaze. He was angry because Olivia had rejected his advances before he settled for Emily. How was that my fault? "Don't lie to us, Mark," Daniel yelled, his eyes shooting daggers at me. "If you're going to lie, you should have a little respect for Alpha Bryan!" "Let him go, Daniel. I have no interest in what Mark wants to go and do. And since he said it's personal, you don't have to pick on him," Bryan chimed in, his voice gentle as he tried to settle the rift between Daniel and me. "Daniel, Bryan is right. You're just mad at Mark because his sister rejected you. How is it Mark's fault that you got rejected by Olivia? Stop being a sore loser!" Caleb shouted, picking my side. For some odd reason, I thought Caleb and his brothers shared a small resemblance to Olivia, but I wasn't sure if they were related to her. Moreover, they never had any sister. "Shut up, you three morons! I'm not being sour about Olivia's rejection. Fine, I admit I got pissed off that she rejected me, but what's so special about her? She's a wolfless girl born on a moonless night. Who would want a wolfless girl like her? Huh?" Daniel yelled, making my fists clench. But I didn't show my disgust. After all, he was Bryan's beta. "Say whatever you like about Olivia if that will make you feel better. I'm out of here," I replied, my voice stern as I turned to walk away and exit the basketball room. Daniel called out to me, "Mark! I heard from Emily that you're defending Olivia at home! Are you secretly sleeping with her? After all, she is your sister. Who knows what you both are doing behind closed doors? Or why do you suddenly seem to care about her now?" The room dropped silent as everyone waited to hear my response. Indeed, I had rushed back home to take Olivia to the hospital after the housemaid, Tracy, contacted me and informed me that my mother had beaten Olivia and left her to die in the living room. Three days ago, I was at my new home, trying to furnish it, when I left everything and rushed back to my father's house. I saw Olivia lying lifeless on the floor, and Mom had already left for work—even though she was a nurse. She didn't care to check on Olivia. No one was home except for the maid, who was a middle-aged woman. As I dashed into the living room, I rushed to carry Olivia in my arms and took her straight to my car. I kept her in the backseat and hopped into my red sports car driver's seat. Then I roared the engine to life and drove straight to the pack's hospital. Upon my arrival at the pack's magnificent hospital, Mom saw me carrying Olivia into the emergency unit, and she was furious. She worked in the obstetrics unit. After I came out of the emergency room, and the doctors and nurses attended to Olivia, Mom glared at me, but I didn't wait to speak to her as I rushed back to find out if Olivia was recovering in the emergency unit. Shutting my eyes at the painful memory, I turned to face Daniel, knowing he was a sore loser, and demanded, "Does it matter if I'm fụcking Olivia at home? After all, she's beautiful. So stay the fụck out of my business!" Everyone's jaw dropped in shock, including Bryan Anderson. His expression soured because I knew he liked Olivia, but he never voiced his thoughts. His alpha pheromones thickened the atmosphere as I knew he frequently visited me at home, but I found out his visits were not because of me, but to get a glimpse of Olivia. I had caught Bryan stealing glances at Olivia, but he couldn't admit his feelings for her. After all, she was a wolfless omega. Bryan was the next alpha of the Starfield Pack; his parents wouldn't support him picking a wolfless omega as his mate. Bryan's younger sister, Ava, was in Olivia's class, but they weren't friends. That held him back from chasing after my foster sister, and I was okay with it. I knew Bryan couldn't have a wolfless girl as his luna, so that held him back from pursuing Olivia, but something in the way he looked at her made me uncomfortable. I knew he desired her too. Clearing his throat, Bryan snarled, "Mark, how can you take advantage of Olivia? Did she agree to sleep with you, or did you force yourself on her?" I laughed as I saw their questioning gazes peering at me disdainfully, but I replied with a smirk, "I have standards and don't force myself on women. Stay away from my sister. Whatever relationship I have with Olivia is my business. After all, she is not related to me by blood." The atmosphere in the room thickened as Coach Tyler had already left us. I spun and left them, shutting the door behind me. "Mark is damn crazy! How can he take advantage of that beautiful girl? Is it because she is an orphan? We heard her parents threw her out when she was born." Caleb's voice resonated in the room as I stood in the hallway, preparing to leave for the hospital. They were not happy that I had admitted to being in a relationship with Olivia. She was not my blood sister, so I didn't care what they had to say. Logan growled in my head, "Mark, let's not pay attention to them. The sooner we claim Olivia, the better to keep them away from her." "You're right," I agreed with Logan, making my way out of the basketball court. I got into my red sports car and drove off to the pack's hospital, anticipating seeing Olivia. As I didn't want to arrive at the pack's hospital empty-handed, Logan advised, "Mark, let's get a present for Olivia. What do you think she will like?" As I drove down the road path that led to the pack's hospital, I caught sight of an eatery, and I was famished. I was supposed to join my teammates for lunch, but I didn't want to spend much time with them, knowing I had pressing matters to take care of. A smile curled up my lips, then I drove my car into the eatery's grounds and parked it. As I got out of my car, I came across Ava Anderson and my younger sister, Emily. "Hey, Mark!" Ava exclaimed as she rushed up to envelop me in a warm hug. Her chest pressed against mine, and my wolf grimaced in disgust. Even as Ava was our alpha's daughter, Logan didn't like her—she was a cheap woman who had slept with many handsome guys in our pack. I was her new target, and I didn't want her as her eyes shamelessly raked over my body with clear desire. She bit her bottom lip and moved away, running her left fingers through her hair. Ava wore a yellow crop top and pink shorts with pink shoes. She was stunning with lengthy blonde hair and enchanting yellow eyes that glowed with so much lust. However, Emily glared at me and looked away. She was still annoyed that I had picked Olivia's side and protected Olivia against her. After all, Olivia was my sister, even as I planned to date her now. I couldn't seem to get her out of my mind, especially after I had run into her náked. That day, I blamed myself for not knocking before going into her room.
