“We could switch” She interrupted me, owing my sweet smile.

“What? Are you crazy?!” I yelled at her, staring at her as if her nose had grown longer.

“Listen.” She grabbed my arms and stared into my eyes, her eyes dancing in glee. “Here's the catch, we look perfectly alike and we both hate our lives and want revenge on our best friends. Won't it be perfect if we embrace each other's lives and styles for a few weeks and work out and elaborate plan to clear your name and revenge our besties without having to always cross paths with them and you know… living our best lives!” She squeaked the last words as she picked me up and spun me around.

Was she serious right now? I couldn't wear black always or stay in this depressing room or even get piercings? It's impossible!

“No! No! Stop this! Stop this madness!” I cried, slapping her hands away from my waist. “We can't do that, I can't be you. We look alike but that's not enough, your brothers will find out in a jiffy and so would my sister and mum!” I eyed her, furiously.

“Well, we can learn each other's lives and I know you dread my style but that's not a problem because I've decided to try something new, get rid of my piercings and mix a bit of other colours into my wardrobe.” She announced excitedly whilst shaking me. “Think about it! Is your style and life much more precious than getting back your brand deals, following and credibility? What's your style without a brand?” She'd struck the chord.

“Fine, I'm in! Let's do revenge!” I squealed as we both jumped around.

What an epic change this will be. Valli wouldn't see this coming!

That was the agreement Kaitlin made with her doppelganger, Darla after both their best friends betrayed them. While for Darla, it was just to watch her boyfriend which her best friend had stolen and break them off, it was a case of reputation and steps away from bankruptcy for Kaitlin.

CHAPTER ONE
“Kaylin, please come help me with my zipper.” I pleaded as I admired myself in the huge dressing mirror. Like always, my model-like frame was perfectly clad in a light-coloured sundress, this time I'd chosen turquoise green. “Oh!” She grumbled, stamping her feet in annoyance. I rolled my eyes, always grumpy. “Why can't you dress in pants or shorts were the zippers are more accessible? Or better still, learn to zip up by yourself!” “Yeah, yeah!” I sang, gradually becoming impatient but I shut it out and made a baby face instead as I drew closer to her. Clamping my hands together, I cooed, “Just do it for your sister. Your only twin. The most precious thing to you.” I batted my eyelashes occasionally and never undid my pouting lips. “All right, stop it.” She chuckled as the zipper made a “zroom” sound from behind me. “There you go but…” She wagged her finger in my face. “Learn to zip it yourself, Miss Pretty Face.” Her tried to make a mean face but her lips betrayed her awfully by shaping into a lop-sided smile. I threw my head back in laughter, “There you go! You can't refuse me because, you're the best sister ever!” “Aww.” Her tone was doused in mockery and the smile had quickly been replaced with a snarky smirk. “I won't be here forever, Kaitlin. You need to learn to do things by yourself.” My eyes widened at her words and I watched a sullen look flash across her face before she picked up her black watch and walked through the door. I took a deep breath to steady myself. No, I would be honest, not one breath but several breaths. I had known it'd come to this few months earlier, but it's easier to act indifferent to reality than let the gloom consume you. You probably don't understand what I'm saying and that's what I'll be explaining throughout this story. I'm… “Kaitlin Gemini Parker!” A loud and strong feminine voice shook my bones, bringing me back to my room. Slowly, I faced the direction of the door, and I wasn't surprised to see a 6’5 foot tall, evenly dark-skinned woman with a deep-rooted frown on her face, staring me down. That's my mother, Mrs Silver Parker and the owner of the Parker Conglomerates, a group of companies centered around healthy food production and pharmaceuticals. “Yes mum?” I answered sweetly, batting my eyelashes. Being the younger twin and last child gave me a large place in her heart which I usually humored myself will be guarded by my favourite flowers - Lilies. “Don't give me that look right now! Your sister just skidded off in her bike, looking gloom. What did you say to her and why didn't she wait for the driver?” Her tone was sharp and berating, but her gaze was the opposite; concerned and soft. I picked up my pink backpack and began to walk towards her, my heels clicking as I did so. You might get the picture wrong, I'm not even close to 6 feet yet, and I'll be 19 in few months' time, unlike my sister whose head already towered over mum's shoulders. There! You guessed right, I took my father's genes and his beautiful eyes too. Of course, my sister and I were identical except for our height and eye-colour differences but this only applies to our physical bodies because Kaylin has never worn a dress since age 5 and her makeup was akin to that of a goth girl. I shrugged with a sullen look on my face, “She left. I guess she wants to be alone. She mentioned the —” My index finger went up to my mouth as I clicked my tongue against my upper teeth then breathed out. Mum nodded silently and pat my back. “All right, I get it. It's hard– it's upsetting for everybody but we need to get you to school right away. I don't want you to get to your classes late especially not Mr Sander's class.” She smiled down at me as she inched away from the doorpost for me to walk through. That's my mum for you; doting, considerate and attentive. She knows everything about us both including our school timetables and our personal reading time tables which she calls “THE BASICS”. We can't even tell her a lie because she'll through us and have us punished. “You have to hurry.” Her voice filtered into my thoughts again as we both scampered down the stairs to beat time. I strapped my seatbelt and sat back with my head lolling over the headrest as the driver pulled away from the Parker estate and into the streets of Santa Monique also known as the city of the rich. Things were over-the-counter expensive and lavish in this city that you couldn't survive a day with just a thousand dollars. At our arrival to this SM about eleven years ago, mum had just been a waitress at one restaurant until she'd gotten a better job and then, we moved into a less expensive apartment in the city's surburbs. That's where she started her little company and formed alliances with a lot of rising businesses which make us millions daily. Her hard work had paid off and it never stopped her from being there for us. I couldn't ask for anymore than I'd gotten. SM being the wealthy area of the town and with most of the houses owned by mum due to her current interest in Real Estate, I was easily known as the Queen Bee at school, unlike Kaylin who never liked the spotlight and often hid from bullies who nicknamed her, “Hoodie Girl” As soon as my car's strong tires rolled into the school's compound, I heard murmurs and hisses then peeked through the window to meet guys and girls pointing at my car in disgust mixed with fury. I wanted to duck my head into the car and disappear. Setting my face straight as the model I am, I stuck my legs out of the car one after the other, alighting with grace followed by grunts and nasty comments from everyone. I shuffled through the crowd that had gathered round me, trying all i could to keep my head up. I felt like I was under a microscope and every move of mine was mirrored as bitchy, sassy, obstentatious. Who does she think she is? That's what we get for supporting her, huh? What a b***h! Just look at how smug she looks with those shoulders straight. She doesn't even seem a little remorseful. I regret ever thinking she was flawless. Such a shameless w***e? I wonder why the school hasn't expelled her yet and that sickly sister of hers What does she feel like now? That's she's better than everybody or what? To think we were all deceived by her and called Valli the bad one. I kept up with my stiff face as I made my way to the school entrance with my fingers turning pink from gripping tightly unto the handle of my backpack. Listening to them was torture and I wished someone except my family and Valli knew the truth. How could they be this gullible? Accepting such from me despite how sweet I've been to them all? I guess they can't because of Valli's sudden change from kindness to a loathsome witch and the Police's tracing of the posts to my device. I wanted to scream and lurch at Valli but she wasn't in sight and that wont look best for my tanking social media account or the withdrawal of brands from partnering with me or was it the bullshitting of my songs by fellow influencers? As I walked through the doors of the school, soaking in the familiar scent of cleaning agents mixed with different perfumes, deodorants, body sprays and people's sweats, my eyes scanned through the crowd of student who had hurriedly drifted left and right for me. Or… Was it me? “Kaitlin Parker.” A silky voice chirped behind me and my body stiffened like a rock. “Sundress queen.” She continued in a giggle and I heard some people join her. They were her minions; Joy, Winnie and Laney. With a stylish hair flip, I turned to face my ex-best friend and rival, Valli Stevenson. In contrast to my sundress and stylish heels, she was dressed in a pair of jean trousers, a crop top and smart sneakers. I know what you're thinking - polar opposites. Yes, we were but we'd been besties from our second year in middle school but everything had changed after that night at the party…
